Wei sighed, not showing how taken aback he was. Since when had his little Rui grown? He would just have to accept this other new thing right? He gripped at the ground below trying not to let his temper flare unnecessarily. There was enough tension around as it was.

""

They had to wait because they didn't understand what was going on. Because this is something that shouldn't have happened. Because this was honestly no different than China. The two brothers may have more experience in that place than anyone else here but it didn't mean that all experience can be applied to everything.

There they had no idea what their enemy was and in the end they couldn't do much except make sure that Kenth and Alex didn't die because that was all they could do. Wei was sure that they very well couldn't act as firemen, they just didn't have the equipment to. He looked forward, visually looking over the students. The brunette felt as if he was the only one capable of keeping his composure currently. Everyone else was just off the shelf. Not to mention he was tired too.

RuiZhi huffed, throwing his hands up. "" he practically shouted. "" He stood sharply and started to pace, bare feet slapping against the cold ground. "" Again, he looked up to the fire, seeming to regain some composure, but panic still lined his eyes.

"" He stared, his slender chest rising and falling heavily, his heart beating a painful tattoo against his ribs. "" RuiZhi's face was pale, almost sallow. He knew...knew there was a procedure to things, but this was maddening. The boy didn't think there was a fire crew on the island, and how long would it take for help to arrive?

When would they stop relying on others and take action with their own hands? RuiZhi looked down at his own hands, feeling a fine tremor in his spine. So helpless...this wasn't how things should be. He couldn't just stand on the sidelines waiting for everyone else to make up their mind. There had to be something they could do!

The brunette sighed again, running a hand through his hair. Now Rui's stress was getting to him and although he did agree that something should be done he didn't exactly know what. He allowed his brother to vent out his thoughts and anger and whatever else was running amok in his head. Finally he stubbornly got up and patted his brother's hair for just a moment.

Quite simply he had some sort of idea of a cause of action that was generally sensible. He stalked over to Professor Veilwood, not quite happy with the situation at all. "Professor, seeing as how you're the one who tends to the grounds the most I assume you would know where there may be hoses or a pipeline that we may use to at the very least extinguish the flames closest to the ground. I would also think that there could perhaps be a general pump, maybe the type a plumber would use for clogs or something, that we could manipulate so that we could create a pressurized stream of water for the flames higher up."

Of course he wasn't sure how he could manipulate it so to speak but there were plenty of classrooms far enough or even in a shed that could hold tools. Veilwood himself was a Science teacher, along with three Science students they could find something. Even if this ended up to be complete bologna, doing something would at least calm his brother down.

It had taken a few minutes, but quiet time was always good for a frenzied mind. Scyeth inhaled deeply and straightened his hair for the six-millionth time before turning and joining the group again. He purposefully avoided Micajah and the teacher, not trusting his short temper, and made a beeline for RuiZhi and Weiyuan. Of course, he had nothing useful to say, or to do. Weiyuan seemed to have the situation under control (something that would vex Scyeth in days to come) and RuiZhi seemed to have...some sort of handle on what to do. So Scyeth said nothing. Did nothing. The blond just stood behind RuiZhi and waited.

Uh oh. Alexander stopped right where he was, pulling his fingers into tight fists. Even with the start of sweat trickling down his forehead and neck, a shiver ran up his spine at the snap behind him. Sure, it was a fire, but it wasn't like he was playing in it!

Sasha turned to see the teach scolding him, but he wasn't the only one. He took off his hat and wiped his face, mumbling something of an apology meekly. He decided he might as well move, he didn't need anyone else yelling at him, he was already on strike three. He shuffled closer to the others, the two brothers and the intimidating blond. Well, not too close as they all seemed quite erm agitated and he didn't need to be including in that.

He missed Nikolai. He figured he would have found him by now. Oh well...

Lina.

There was no time to think of anything else; no time to do anything but act.

I have to save Lina.

“Lina!” she rasped out through a throat choked with curling smoke and heat. “LINA!”

There! A sound, somewhere on her left…it was somewhat hard to see, but if she reached out a little—

With a cough, Alex stumbled into the room. The haze seemed to lift, only a little smoke filtering through the room, and the shock of white hair splayed out on the floor clearly belonged to—

“LINA!” Relief flooded through her as she stumbled over to her unconscious friend. “Lina! You’re okay now,” she said, voice delirious with relief, speaking more to herself than to her pregnant friend. She scooped Lina up into her arms, adrenaline making other woman feel much, much lighter. “Here—let’s get out of—”

There were several things Alex probably should have paid attention to, in hindsight. One of them was the door.

The walls crumbled a little; something gave, and the pillar in front of the door collapsed with a sickening crash, taking some of the hall ceiling with it. The door to the room opened outwards. Alex, in her relief and her panic, had closed the door behind her.

They could not exit the room.

Alex stood there, trying to comprehend what had just happened, trying to keep herself from falling apart.

Would you fall apart right now, Lina? Would you panic?

Alex wasn’t sure of the answer. She only knew one thing as she slumped against the wall, cradling her dear friend in her arms.

I must be strong enough for the both of us.

Even as he watched, the rooms were crumbling. The place was burning. And they were all still standing there with their thumbs up their nose and waiting for...for what? RuiZhi trembled again, wrapping his arms around himself. It was all...so unfair. Why did she keep doing this? Is it because she knew no one else would do anything? He knew she'd protect whoever was up there with her dying breath...and that was what he was afraid of.

He felt more than saw Scyeth behind him, turning around slowly to look up at him. Some of the listlessness slipped from his face, making him look more human and less frigid. RuiZhi slipped his glasses off, moving against the other and wrapping his arms around the taller boy's torso. Resting his cheek against the blonde's collar bone, he murmured softly, "I'm sorry, Scy. Please...don't be angry."

RuiZhi thought he'd lost him back there, that he'd show everyone...but he'd be wrong, thankfully. The younger boy gave the Aussie a squeeze, planting a brief kiss on the other's shoulder. He didn't care if anyone was watching, and he wouldn't be surprised either; it seemed everyone was interested in everything but the fire itself, so why not give a little show to entertain? He sighed softly; oh, he was still quite bitter. He just didn't know what to do.

Scyeth blinked, a little surprised by the public display of affection. Now didn't seem like the time...or the place...oh, what the hell. "It's okay," he muttered, albeit a little sheepishly, as he felt like maybe, just maybe, he should be the one apologizing instead. He reached out to run a hand through Zhi's hair and sighed softly. He could do this, at any rate. He'd have to hold on to his temper much more firmly, though. Any more episodes like that just wouldn't do. Especially with the way the fire was burning.

He latched onto RuiZhi firmly. He had a promise to keep, after all. Scyeth looked around, Weiyuan was still waiting on the teacher...there was very little he could do while they waited, but. There must be someone else that could help. Or something. Even a hose would be nice. However, rushing in headlong was not the answer either. He would wait. For now. As painful as it was for all of them, they had to wait a little bit had make a plan. "It will be okay," he promised. He'd be damned if he didn't keep his promises.

Elijah, whose question seemed to be ridiculously impossible to answer, stood along with the others keeping a step back or two from the confrontations and sparking words between some of the students. It surprised him to see the reaction Scyeth held against the others who were previously bunching around the raven haired Chinese boy. Were they...? The revelation hit Elijah swiftly causing him to feel an enlightened bubbling sensation spindle up his throat. He would have said something in jubilations had not Alex run into the building and he had seen his friend, RuiZhi, in panic as he had before in China. Such grief in such a previously gentle face was a familiar yet painful sight to the brunette.

He didn't dare approach the embrace between Scyeth and Rui, but drew closer into the group now unsure of what to do with himself. He wanted to make himself helpful but in the present situation he wasn't sure how that could be accomplished. It seemed anything he could try would only make him out to be more of a burden than anything else...that was certainly not his intention. Instead, 'lij' put his hands together, whispered a few pleading words, and separated his palms releasing the prayer into the air in hopes it would be answered.

Dammit. Dammit dammit dammit!

Never had the Elven Mage felt so helpless.

Dante would later curse himself out for his lackadaisical behavior, for overworking himself. Because of that, the fact that Alex had run forward registered a moment too late, and even as he ran forward to try to grab her arm he came up just a bit short....

Then the doors swooshed open, then closed, and they were sealed outside with Alex and...someone inside. That was the only reason Alex would ever run into a burning building, and for a moment he cursed her rashness and her selflessness.

Then frustration gave way to more shock and the sickening, plummeting feeling in his stomach as the rest of the building began to crumble and collapse. Something had to be done, and something inside Dante snapped to attention.

He turned to the students, hearing RuiZhi's outburst but seeing that Scyeth and Weiyuan were taking care of it.

"Professor Manneth. Professor Ardanay." Dante turned to the teachers. First things first, once again. "Are there any other entrances or exits to the building?"

Dante would not be the only one cursing himself; Herei often prided himself in his quickness and yet...Alex had slipped by him, by everyone, and into the burning building. The door sealed and that was that. Alex was trapped. Despite best efforts, that door was not about to open, and from the looks of it, the fire was only spreading. The fire was spreading? Why was the fire spreading? Shouldn't some emergency sprinklers or something have gone off by now?

Listening to Dante, Herei tipped his head sidewards thoughtfully. Other entrances? "What about fire escapes? Or breakable windows?" he prompted, trying to help in the only way he could.

Oh this was very much on the not good list. Jaden's mismatched eyes were impossibly wide, as things unfolded, and Scyeth's little tantrum incited much clinging on the blond's part. What was his problem exactly? He was going to have to ask Nat about it later, but for now, he wrapped an arm around his friend. "You ok, Nat?" He inquired softly. It seemed that no one knew exactly what had happened, but that this was quickly dissolving into chaos.

Alex...he new of the woman, but didn't really know her personally. He knew that Farlest did, however...and he was somehow very glad his friend wasn't here, or he would be charging into that building no matter what anyone else told him. Well...bar being physically held down, that is.

Ardanay Veilwood's mind was reeling. The building, his building, was collapsing right before his very eyes, with one or more people inside. There could be no other option but to infiltrate and try to stop the fire. He played back all the options and decided it would be best to make small groups out of the people there and split them up and send them in. One group and one teacher per group. And a few students outside to relay messages, provided they had some kind of device. Or anything to really make this easier.

Of course, emergencies weren't going to be perfect. There would be flaws, but they would be handled. The students were willing, and he felt better if they had a teacher with them. Quickly, he counted. He wanted Lorioth and the Headmaster to stay outside, for message purposes. And then he figured he, Advisor Fang, and Professor Araquenosse could go inside and divide the students up amongst themselves.

Ten students, but three teachers. He sighed a little, trying to figure out how to divide them up and then shrugged it off. Folding his arms, he looked at the teachers and nodded, "Yes. There's another door by the back, right under the bridge to the Communications Tower. I suggest that we split up the students amongst us three, since they obviously won't be content to stay out here, and head in. One group will go after Alex and whoever Alex went in to get. The other groups should search the building and try to put out the fire."

He was on a roll now.

"I'll take the group after Alex, since it is my department. Both Mr. Leung and Mr. Tai won't be content to stay behind, and Mr. Akazar, being attached to RuiZhi shall have to come too. I'll also take Mr. Ackart." Then he went on thoughtfully, "I think you two should chose who you'd like to take with you. That is... if the plan seems okay?"

There was no time to tread on politeness. He had to act, and his mind just came reeling with ideas and he blurted them out as best he could in the time of crisis, hoping he got the idea across and hoping it would be approved.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel looked back to Jaden who seemed to have asked him a question. His sanity had been stolen for a moment by the commotion and he was watching the teachers talk. It did not look good. Nothing looked good. The whole building was crumbling, and Nat bit his lips. It made him feel like his dreams and his revenge was crumbling with it. Without that building, he didn't have anything. He had nothing to go for. All the materials and research he could've wanted was going up in flames, and he too was tempted to run towards it in a crazy attempt to stop the collapse.

But he took a deep breath, and calmed down. Impulse would do him no good right now. Instead, he concentrated on matters at hand. "I'm fine Jade," the Brit replied shortly, keeping a firm hand on his friend's shoulder both for support and comfort. He didn't want to worry the other, but it was really starting to dull now. His leg felt a little numb, but upon putting weight on it, a pain shot through him. He'd be limping his way around, that was for sure. But hell if he'd let Jaden worry about it.

The crackling of the flames, the dull roar of the fire was horribly taunting. Over it, he could hear Ardanay speaking to the others, perking immediately as he heard his name - and three others that he knew - mentioned. The Chinese youth started to tug Scyeth in the Science Head's direction (for he was terribly unwilling to let the blonde go at that moment), turning his eyes onto the forest-tressed man, indicating he had heard and agreed.

RuiZhi could still feel the adrenaline in his veins, and he had a feeling it wouldn't retreat until they were well on their way. Maybe not until they had retrieved that stupid woman he called a sister.

He wanted to thank Ardanay for doing something other than saying 'wait,' but his throat was sore from the ash in the air and he didn't trust himself to speak without bias. For the time being, he simply held onto Scyeth's hand (or torso, if the Aussie was still latched onto him), finally doing as Weiyuan had suggested and waiting to be told what to do...as long as they would, in fact, DO something.

“ALEX!”

Greg was in hysterics; it was all that Dante and Ardanay could do to hold the man back as he, too, tried to charge into the building.

“Professor Greg Larine!”

Greg froze at the sound of Herei’s sharp, authoritative voice; then he slumped, hair falling into his face and over his icy blue eyes.

“Thank you.”

“Lorioth.” Prinwaltz stepped forward from the group, eyes steely. “Give us an estimation.”

Lorioth sighed, bowing his head. “…The animal room…is a delicate place. The humidity and the atmosphere…must be just right. I think that that room…is currently humid enough to keep the fire from getting in.”

“For now?”

Lorioth nodded. “…For now. …For a few hours, probably. Maybe less.”

Professor Norman Prinwaltz turned to the students and teachers present. “In other words, we have very little time to act. We must move now, before it is too late---"

BOOM

Norman didn't have the chance to finish his sentence. There was another explosion near the original one. Some glass shards could be seen falling to the ground.

"It is clearly dangerous to approach the building at this time." The headmaster grimaced, "there's no way to---"

User Image

His words were once again interrupted. This time, it was not by a sound, but something horrifying that had caught his eyes. The grassfields adjacent to the building was caught on fire. Perhaps due to the dry weather, the flames spread fast, threatening to engulf everything in its way.

Before the headmaster could speak again, several of the teachers were already taking actions. "But we must contain the fire first." Herei said. His face was still cheerful, but his voice was serious. "Come, we will need all the help we could get."
