Do we have a ballpark estimate on dates yet? I just kind of don't really want to have to play toddler!Bhel for prom sweatdrop

I vote we have a booth with a fortune teller. Could be interesting.

The current plan is to put off Prom for at least a month; I've been talking to Risth about things with Iarla, and there's a potential for coinciding some events with his arrival, if that's a good baseline. ninja
What were some of the ideas that we'd spawned in chat yesterday..... Ringmaster and Barker-based outfits, Circus Animals (Morty = lion maybe, we discussed).... uh, what else....

What about mid-August/September time more so? Allows time for plenty of planning and is still *sort* of in summer still, and a Carnival isn't entirely summer orientated anyway biggrin
In terms of dress theme, anything ranging from clowns, feathery carnival goers, to acrobats, and crazy coloured people etc? I suppose that is pretty apparent anyway, being carnivalish and all *fail* emo

August is usually con-month for most though, I think. And I know even some schools start back up. September puts everyone back in college, unfortunately.
I'm just kinda laughing because Guelmy himself is kinda straight out of a carnival as a contortionist and a fire eater, so thinking out of the box is a bit difficult. Though I was thinking more Carnivale than Carnival sooooo lol.
Guelmy sez Skule can go as an elephant. Less costume needed.

OKAY so I have a looot of ideas! I think the Carnival theme is really great and is going to be sooo fun to roleplay. heart So, some ideas about various events/booths/etc.!
- The fortune-teller booth is such a good idea. I can't wait to see that in action.
- A magic show; I keep thinking it should have, perhaps, a bit of creepy vibe - the kind you get from fun houses or smiling clowns... Maybe there can be a defining moment during the show, i.e. some event that has to later be resolved. Like one of the Fa'e is chosen/volunteers to be a helper, and they are made to disappear by the magician. Where do they go? Nobody knows...~. (Maybe they can end up in a random place on the boardwalk, or near the fortune teller booth, and discover something?)
- Typical "you win a prize!" games like coin toss into glass bottles, beanbag toss, shoot-the-target, knife throwing (at...a target!), and that sort of thing. It would be hilarious for someone like Morty or whoever to win, like, a gigantic stuffed dragon or something. xD
- Mimes. It would be so cool to have these kind of just "around." Like maybe they could pull scarves from the ears of the younger Fa'e, or just creep the hell out of some of the older ones.
- Traditional boardwalk rides like the ferris wheel would make a great opportunity to play up the "date" part of the prom. Stuck in a ferris wheel car with your randomly chosen "prom date"?? This isn't awkward! ETA: And a carousel...
- This isn't exactly an event but...there'd better be funnel cake...
Costumes!
I think the ideas of traditional circus costumes are awesome. As Akina mentioned, Cirque Du Soleil-esque outfits would bring in a great mystique & flair. For the animal-type Fa'e, circus animal outfits would very much be kind of adorable... Who would be the lion tamer for Morty?? xD
For some reason this is really stuck in my head, and before I think about it too much I'm going to throw it out there: I keep thinking of the machine in the movie Big. The sort of out-of-the-way creepiness that the machine has, yet that carnival music that plays in the background...ooh that's the atmosphere I'm thinking of!
There need to be terrifying clowns of course, and a fun house...who knows what might be inside??
ETA: I think mid-Aug/Sept might be a bit late. I would really like Iarla to show up during the prom. Maybe the magician conjures him mysteriously in a poof of smoke?? Lol that would be sooo goddamn traumatizing for him. xD
ETA: Oooh! And there should be fireworks at some point~. heart

A fun place I have been to that might be an interesting model, besides your typical beach boardwalk, is Tivoli Gardens in Denmark (usually just called Tivoli). It's a combination of boardwalk-type rides, performance, great food and gardens. Very fun, although the wait for the rollercoaster I went on was so not worth it. It's probably not as "traditional" boardwalk, though. Just thought I'd throw it out there, with some pictures!

Yeah, I'd rather it be in July or early August because my classes for Fall will start up after that, which will suck me away.

Like, your invitation comes with a token, and when you put the token in, it says something mysterious and then poofs you into the foyer of the Prom. Could be fun. Plus, cryptic messages are kind of a big Fa'e thing. LET'S HAVE MORE OF THEM.
Also, I don't know if we are planning Metaplot stuff for this, but it would be cool if the hired performers (aerialists, mimes, etc.) suddenly turned evil or attacked or whatever. That is, if we are having something like that happen.

I'd imagine it sitting all by itself, probably because of the movie, and a number of the Fa'e grouping around it being all "Wtf???" - I thought we were going to a carnival, where is it! Yes, I wasn't sure if there was a metaplot thing going on or not. How about something that'll creep you out for the rest of your life? Hmm...potential...!
