"I know, I know. And I'm serious, she does have a soft spot. She doesn't like opening up on people..." She shrugged. "It's not so much as strength....I just don't like being alone. Having friends is fun even they do eventually pass on."

"That was my conclusion. It wouldn't matter what anyone said at this point. She's going to do what she wants eventually and have to learn the hard way." he blinked at her ahnd and smiled a little.

"Your mate won't be upset...will they?" He asked, also hesitant. He didn't want to jump to conclusions about her lover being male....as she had stated before there were several in love with the same sex.

"But it is, you see. You know the loss is coming, but you don't try to avoid it." She felt a sort of ache. She wished she made more friends as easily as this. THere she went, being lost in self pity. She forced the thought out of her head. The moment, she reminded herself. And in this moment, she had a friend.

Marlith squeezed his hand gently. "Just dont' abandon her. NOt that I think you would. When her heart breaks, she'll need someone to go to."

"My ... mate?" She put her hand to her mouth, holding in a small laugh. "I've never taken a lover. You don't really find them when you're trying to match them up with someone else.

"It's life though...and life I understand...well to an extent like anyone else." She pointed out.

Dyvim smiled. "Would you be there for me if I was in her position?" It was a hypothetical question.
"well you should have someone....." He mused. Maybe it was his genetics that had him thinking everyone needed someone....

"Not everyone does, though. A lot of people just decide they can't risk their hearts like that. Rather than not be hurt, they never love...or make friends, in the first place."

"If you were going to get your heart broken? Seems a strange to ask someone on a date," she said with a grin. "But hypothetically, yes. If you needed someone, you could come to me. I've done a lot of things, but abandonment isn't one of them."

Sam's head swum, wondering how this got turned around to her. "It is an odd thing, I suppose. Perhaps it seems unusual that the angel of eternal promise would not have made such a promise. But, it's actually a result of something. I've seen people jump in where angels fear to tread, so to speak. Giving too much away when they aren't ready to. I won't do that. When I give my heart, it will be forever." She hesitated. "People are strange. I've seen two people know upon meeting each other. But I've also seen people take years. I've even seen where one knew and the other didn't. It happens all sorts of ways. But until I know, I won't give my heart or soul."

"They let fear consume them...and that's never good, no matter what. It's sad when they do let fear eat them because it changes them nearly forever."

"I know it's strange to ask." He just didn't have anything else at the moment.

"So you're biding your time until the right one comes?" He murmured, lightly twirling her in their small dance.

"It is, but, it's hard. Fear can be powerful. They feel like they're keeping something. I... I know. I've been there."

It suddenly occurred to Marlith that this was a chance to "win" the conversation. She had experience with manipulation. She had to in her work. Some people just weren't scared of the bogey man or monsters under the bed. But she was still ashamed of the thought. She had no desire to prove anything to Dyvim, least of all that she was better than him. She just wanted to spend time with him. Was it that ingrained in her that she couldn't help but do it? She swallowed some wine to hide her silence. "Would you want me to be there?" she asked finally.

"Not really," she said as she spun. "That would imply I've been looking. I really haven't given it much thought."

"When?" She asked softly, curious to her friend's words.

Dyvim blinked and took a few sips to make up for his momentary silence as he thought that over. He nodded then. "Yes. I would."

"Would you ever want someone in your life like that?" He asked, slowly dipping her.

"I ... had a girlfriend. When I was younger. We broke up because she said I was irritating. It was hard for me to talk to anyone. She made it sound like everyone felt the same way. I got lost inside myself for a long time. I was worried that if I tried to be friends with anyone they'd just hate me." She took a deep breath. "It wasn't till college that I had a couple friends break me out of it."

Though it was the answer she had secretly hoped for, she was still a bit surprised at it. "I swear if you ever need me, I will be there." It was a bit cheesy. Maybe melodramatic. ANd it probably seemed silly. But she meant it.

"I think everyone does," she said, once again admiring the way he danced. He was smooth and graceful, and she could feel the strength in his arms when he dipped her. It was safe. "Many don't admit it, but I don't think people are complete alone. It takes two minds and two hearts to make one soul."

"Well that's not nice of her....if she was that upset she could have found a better way if anything. Oh well...Don't dwell on it too long. It just brings unwanted pain." She sighed a little.

Dyvim smiled. "Thanks. So what will you have?" He asked. Okay a tad rushed but he shifted towards food as a mild distraction.

Alex smiled, almost happy Skyling made him take dancing up. It seemed she was enjoying it and the instructor was right to one thing...You definitely got to know someone better through dance than anything else. "Two hearts huh..."

"I don't generally," she said. "It's just that I know why people would let their fears stop them. Elsa was unkind, not who I thought she was. But I'd given her my heart, and she didn't honor it. I wasn't very strong then. I had to learn it."

Marlith looked at her menu hurriedly, grateful from the distraction. She was moving too fast, she knew it. She wasn't familiar with the names of the dishes, so she had to read the descriptions. She settled, finally, on an herbal chicken in a light sauce. It sounded filling but not too much.

Sam nodded. "That's what makes it eternal. You become one. Disagreements may come, but you never lose sight of what's most important. The relationship you share."

"Good. There's far too much in life to enjoy more dwelling on pain..." Even if pain is what made you stronger at times.

Dyvim chose the steak and had it only slightly pink in the middle. He was a dragon and would have preffered slightly rarer, however he was on a date, and he didn't know how she'd react. Better Safe then sorry right?

"Would you want someone to love you? For eternity?" He asked.

Amie smiled slightly. "I've had enough pain. Of course, I'm still pretty shy, but I'd rather have people. Friends make the pain much easier.

"I would have taken you for a a man who likes his meat rare," she said. She was actually dying for a rack of ribs, but those didn't make a very lady-like impression. She almost laughed. It was like they were dancing around impressions.

"Of course," she said with a smile, meeting his eyes. "I don't want to be incomplete for eternity. And I want to be able to give my life to someone too."

"That's good."

He smiled a little. "How about we get rid of impressions?" He asked and changed his order to a steak that was rarer then what he ordered.

"You just don't want to find Mr. Right until you're ready."

Sam simply nodded. She sat, holding Bonnie and running her fingers over his surface. She wasn't sure what to say now to that. She hummed a small tune.

((kinda running out of steam there.))

Marlith shrugged, though with a small smile. "I don't know that you can. Not till you know someone well enough to trust them. But now that you mention it. What is your impression of me?"

"I just don't want to leap into thinking it's Mr. Right when it's just Mr. Right Now. I'd be ready right now if I knew."

Ris smiled a little and pointed to Bonnie. "Any idea what's in it or even a guess?"

"You're different..." He said, blinking a little bit. What was his opinion of her now? That he even had to soul search.

"Fair enough." He said softly.
