'Sohalia sent me,' Shveni said quickly, her words clipped. 'C'mon..' she darted behind the bush, and stood waiting for the stallion to join her, one front paw raised as she turned her head back to see when he'd caught up. 'Quickly,' she scolded, and when he had joined her, she set off.

That was all the words he needed. His eyes widened. The word quickly also hit home pretty good. Yes... quickly... As fast as possible!!! That was what he was thinking. Without a moment's loss, he galloped a few steps and began to fly into the air.
"You lead the way, I'll be right with you."
Boy.. this one wasn't much for explanations, huh? What was he to think? Well, if she had sent someone for him.. that was a good sign. Or.. was it? Slowly, his optimism was finding its footing in his heart. Yeah... Just follow... if only for the moment... have faith..

Shveni didn't have to explain, she just had to lead him to where Sohalia was. And she did so, her ears telling her when the stallion had dropped behind and only then would she pause, waiting for him to catch up. Not once did she speak to him again throughout the journey, not until they arrived at their destination. She slunk through the tightly backed thorn bushes, her coat giving her protection from the spikes, and she stood by the cave entrance, until he'd gotten through as well. 'In there.' she said, and bounded off again.

Normally speaking, Vohamanah might have felt slightly put off with that sort of reception. What an overly avoiding demeanor! He could see where that creature seemed something a little like how Sohalia was when he met her. She didn't really always care for much conversing either. She had repeatedly told him it wasn't her way to even say as much about herself as she did to him. Was she like this creature if it wasn't him she was around?
He stepped his long legs carefully around the thorns taking care not to trample them. While they didn't feel pleasant grating against his body, they only lasted a moment till he was walking forward into the cave. He lowered his head down as he found there wasn't tons of room in there. He sniffed around. He could catch faint trails of her scent, but there were other smells here now as well.
He flapped his wings gently against his sides and pushed himself faster and further in. "Sohalia.." He called out gently. It was a soft and pleading almost sort of voice. His needing and wanting so much to hear hers.

Sohalia had dozed off, her head nodding on her folded front legs. At the sounds coming from outside she started back awake, her heart racing in her chest. She couldn't run, that would leave her newly born foals unprotected, and she would be fleeing straight into the path of whatever predator it was.
So it was a large amount of relief that she answered Vohamanah, realising who it was once he'd spoken. Shveni had done as she'd been asked, and had found her mate.
'I'm down here,' she called back, her voice throaty from not being used.

Vohamanah trailed around a few bends in the cave. He kept hoping he was going the right way. He wasn't sure where places in here went. Still, something deep down inside.. a mix of instinct and rising optimism felt like it must be.
That feeling reaffirmed itself when he finally came into the spot where she was at. Suddenly, he felt many pounds lighter in spirit. There was her smell; that smell he had grown to find not just intoxicating but endearing as well. His eyes looked her over. His eyes were pulled to the side as he caught the sight of... baskets! Oh...
He was most certainly curious and wanted to go look in those too, but he wasn't sure how as a mother she would feel about him nosing around in her baskets. He just walked softly and almost soundlessly up to Sohalia. He pressed his nose into the top of her head with a breath. It was a sigh that letting all the worry and toil of waiting on her roll off somewhere behind him.
"I missed you. You seem to have made it through well enough. Is there anything I can do for you?"

Vohamanah's scent got stronger as he neared her, and she felt an unexpected surge of emotion, a lump in her throat and her eyes watered. When he touched her she closed her eyes and the tears did roll out, and she let herself relax, crying a little from the pent up tiredness, the pain she'd gone through and the worry.
'I missed you too, I am glad you are here.' Sohalia managed to smile at her own words, positive that he would be extremely happy at her saying she'd missed him! 'The birth was as expected, full of pain and ending in joy. Three small bundles of joy in fact. And no. Just stay with me until I and our children are able to travel back with you.'

To say her words made him happy was an understatement. He was beyond thrilled. In fact, he didn't say anything as he had no words to express this feeling. It filled him all over. It might have even been that there in the cave his wings nearly lit up for the joy that overflowed from within him. His optimism finally resurfaced from the drowning waters of worry and toil.
He closed his own eyes, and he too felt tears cool upon his cheeks. She did miss him. Now he was certain of the one thing he hadn't felt entirely certain of before. That she wanted to stay with him; that she wanted him to be with her. That feeling made a few extra tears spill that he didn't feel coming.
He knelt down next to her, and as he slowly lowered to not crowd her, he gently nibbed on her ear. "I love you, Sohalia. I have never known happiness until today. Your love and our children have suddenly made me aware of a space inside myself I was entirely oblivious to. If any of you ever leave me, I won't know what to do with myself."

A warm tear dropped from Vohamanah onto Sohalia's nose, and she rubbed it off against her leg. She wanted to grouse a little, ask if he'd just given labour? But she knew that was tiredness talking, and really it was very hard to fake tears. He was genuine, something that he'd displayed time and time again, wanting nothing more than love back from Sohalia. And she'd given it most reluctantly because she couldn't trust.
'I won't Vohamanah, my love.' she spoke suddenly, having quietly listened to his words coming out of the gloom. 'You have me always. You've shown your endless commitment and patience, and I must reward you. You have my heart..and my trust.'

Vohamanah felt like this day was pushing him to a brink he wasn't sure how to process. It was all great and wondrous of course. It wasn't like being pushed over an edge past the tolerance of all anguish and toil. However, he had been enduring the quiet unknowning these past weeks. Now they were answered with everything he had been hoping and trusting for.
His faith in him sang for joy and the satisfaction of having found that his optimism was rewarded. He lowered himself a tad more from kneeling to laying on his legs, gently pressing his nose into her hair. He exhaled a little then inhaled. There was that familiar scent he knew he needed.
"When ours are grown a little, we'll do something special. Something just for us. I need to thank you for letting me in. I do realize the brevity of that."

'Oh? Like what?' Sohalia asked, her curiosity piqued. She shifted slightly, immediately regretting the movement as twinges from sore muscles ran up and down her body.
'Owww..' she murmured, wincing. 'No to moving. Okay..'

He had settled down nicely. His mind feeling relieved and calm. He just wanted to be in this moment. Her question made him smile. He could hear her interest.
"Oh. I was thinking.. we could just go for a walk somewhere... maybe go spend a night there just us. Maybe that pond I met you at... or, we could find somewhere with cliffs or a waterfall. We can look at something heart stopping in nature."
Heartstopping... he knew that word well. Sohalia's scent was plenty heartstopping for him. Then, he heard a rumbling and scuffling sound. His ears turned to their sides. Then, he moved his head to the side to look back at the baskets.
He could see there was movement in them. "How long you think until they come out?"

'Sounds lovely..' Sohalia said, listening to the sounds of movement coming from within the basket herself. She smiled in the gloom, they were 3 lively little foals by the sounds of it.
'Hmm?' she blinked, suddenly aware that she must have nodded off at some point. 'They'll come out when they are ready to, that's the only answer I can give you.' The mare let her head nod some more, and soon she was fast asleep, finally relaxing enough to sleep properly, now that Vohamanah was at her side. When she awoke again, she would feed, and relax, whiling away the time it took for her foals to come out of the baskets and be able to travel away from this cave.
(( I think we might be able to wrap it there? It's been going on long enough hehe =))

((yep))
Vohamanah felt himself drifting off as well. This was the most pleasant sleep felt to him since she had left. As it all quieted down, he could hear the heartbeats of his children, and he could hear his mate's.
He gave into his slumber and imagined what the little ones would look like.
