-Is annoyed that you all speak Irish better than him when he's from Ireland-
But then again, my first language is English and I only learned Irish for 3 years.

Tá tú an cliste ar fad!
Its cool that you want to learn it since it isn't very widely spoken...at all.
Yay for you!

I'm Irish too and so is Eiresheart so thats how we can speak it.
English is our first language too.

I'm Sotch-Irish so want to learn both Irish and Scotish. 3nodding But I'm currently studying like 5 other languages right now and can't find any good curriculum...
PostPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2007 4:19 pm

Well personally I don't like the curriculum that I've been learning all my life (well since primary school)which is the one used in Irish schools. One would think that since we've been learning it since the age of 5 we would be fluent but I'm not even close and I'm considered to be reasonably good at Irish lol.
I've been learning French with 4 years and I know way more of it than I do of Irish.

Good news is when I was in Scotland last November some of the signs were in Scottish and they were slightly similar to Irish so if you get a chance to learn one of the languages, it might help you to learn to other one biggrin

Pirate_pixie: I know, it's an uncommon choice. But I've never heard a language like Irish, and the thought of it dying drives me insane. So I really want to learn it! But it's hard, but whatever.
Seems like there's something very wrong with the curriculum...

Ahhh! Nooo! gonk You people are refueling my desire to learn Irish! There are only a few languages that I feel my heart would implode if I didn’t at least try to learn at some point in my life (Irish, French, Russian, Japanese, Modern Greek, and ASL). Okay, maybe it’s more than a few... sweatdrop Reading the posts in this community has made it harder for me to put Irish, along with the others I’m not currently learning, on hold. I see there isn’t any mention of grammar or lesson books on Irish. emo What methods are you all using to learn Irish (excluding learning it in a class setting since my university doesn’t offer Irish)? All I have is a Rosetta Stone demo disc from the International Festival I went to. It has about two or three levels each of a crap load of languages, Irish being one of them (or was it Welsh...?)

"I'll see your heart ...

We had to say "And bhfuil cead agam dul amach, más é do toil é?" coz the loos were outside.

Go hanam an Diabhial. (I shouldn't try to swaer as Ghaeilge anymore)

@ Pirate pixie: Is dóigh liom go bhfuil an National Curriculum ana-amaideach. Ní múinin said rud ar bith. Ceapaim go bhfuil an German Curriculum is ... erm ... not maithe ... what's that one? Fearr perhaps?

God I have to go back over them yokes.

Táim ar mhuin na muice, a Aoife. Fáilte go Irish GD. Ní dheaca mé t(h)ú arís sa 'this neck of the woods' roimh (gah, syntax gonk ).

… and I’ll raise you mine"
