Greedy jaws snapped up the bits of meat. The hatchling grinned up at Malachite, his hunger dissipating. He hesitated, uncertain of how to communicate, but willing to try. {Th..Thanks?}

{You're welcome!} Malachite smiled. Watching the little dragon gave Malachite a glow in her heart and face. She couldn't help but smile!
She padded past the others to the dead deer and started tearing off hunks herself. She growled happily as she bit in.

Finished with his food, and having replaced the pain in his belly with a warm fullness, the hatchling sat back and curled his tail around his back legs. He turned his head, curious, and looked up at Malachite.
{...Um...What is this place? It's so bright!}

{It's the world, little one. What do you think? It gets brighter than this, mind you...} she added, shuffling her paws. {It's just nighttime right now, that's all...} She shook her head. {What's your name?} Malachite asked.

The hatchling blinked, and thought for a few moments.
{Am..Amer...Amerus...I think...Does that sound right?}
He wasn't sure where the knowledge came from, and so was uncertain if it was right. But...It had been like the hatching. He had known it was time to be released from his prison, and he had acted on it. He wondered what else he would just know.

The newly dubbed Amerus smiled happily.

He had already become attached to this dragon, the first he'd ever seen and his supplier of food. She was kind to him, and he felt a warmth towards her because of it.

{Easy, little one,} Freckles said gently, watching the young female hatchling tear at the deer. She couldn't help but smile, though, to see how quickly the little one was learning.
She turned to the male hatchling. {Amerus... yes, that's a good name. It rolls off the tongue quite well.}
Seeing that the two current hatchlings were well occupied - but had large appetites - she left the small inner cave to bring in another deer.

She glanced up at the other one in passing and returned to her feast. It felt so good! But now there was too much and it was starting to hurt. Feeling too big for her skin but strangely satisfied, she waddled off to collapse in a heap next to her brother.
{My name's Malachite,} Malachite replied. {And you're welcome.} She settled down to sleep for the evening.
Sfor joined her. {My name's Sforkok,} she said sleepily. She tore off a few hunts of meat and fed him sleepily. {Oi, Cart, look after Amerus, will you?}

Freckles dragged a second deer back into the cave, and smiled at the young ones. {My name is Freckles,} she told Amerus. {And that big red and gold stomach with legs is Cartography, but everybody just calls him Cart. Are you hungry? Would you like some more deer?} Assuming he would, she tore off a couple more strips of meat. If he didn't want them, there was always the third egg, and hey... she was pretty hungry herself, and wouldn't mind polishing off the left over bits. The hatching spell had really sapped her energy and she needed to replace it with food and sleep.

Amerus blinked at the new dragons, his sensory-overloaded mind becoming tired. Seeing Malachite and Sforkok preparing to sleep only made him more ready for sleep. He took the proffered meat gladly, filling to bursting before sleep could take him. He'd been sleeping for so long, that he fought it. He wanted to enjoy this new world as much as possible before slipping off of it and into the world of sleep.

{I should be insulted, Freckles, but strangely, I'm not,} Cart said with a twinkle in his eyes. He ate some of the meat that Freckles had dragged in and watched the last egg. {I hope it hatches soon...}

Freckles laughed. {That's because you know I'm kidding. I remember when you first born, and you couldn't even reach the meat... I gave you a shove, and you fell into the pile! Oh, it was priceless.} She looked at the last egg as well. {It will,} she said confidently, {it just needs some more time. I'll sleep wrapped around it, and if it stirs in the night, I'll wake up and deal with it. For now, though...} She yawned, and staggered over to the egg before curling up around her. She drifted off to sleep as soon as she closed her eyes.

{Ha, I remember that! That was hysterical!} Cart laughed. Cautiously he curled up on the other side of the egg. He drowsily allowed himself to fall asleep.

Something... changed. He didn't know what it was, but there was something different. Desperately, he tried to avoid it, soft squeaking noises coming from his mouth as he moved about within his egg. This, however, wasn't the most normal of things. He felt strange, almost as though the egg was shrinking about him, getting smaller. It was getting harder to breath, harder to resist whatever outside force was interfering with what was once a peaceful existence.
Finally, he lashed out, kicking against the shell that was making him rather claustrophobic. Surprisingly, it gave way with only a few movements, and the small dragon squirmed and wiggled himself until he could push his nose out the hole, the rest of him trying to follow and break the egg away at the same time, resulting in him being rather shut. Eyes as of yet unopened, he noted there was something different about where he'd emerged to. He squeaked softly at the air around him, noting the presence of others, whether like him or not, surrounding him as well as his egg; which he desperately wanted to be completely rid of.
