The poor kid was confused. He wasn't dead...why was Spence saying he was? And why would Spence want to kill him in the first place?!
"Did I do something wrong?..."
Demy whimpered, ears flat.

Spence thought a moment, scratching his head. "Lets play hide and seek okay?" At least THAT game Demy should understand!

Tail wagging cheerfully, the boy waited for Spence to make his decision.

"You can hide, I'll be it!" the elder boy volunteered quickly. While Spence normally preferred to be the one who hid, he'd learned his lesson not to allow Demy to be "it". The last time that'd happened, the boy had wandered off and completely forgotten that they were playing! Spence had stayed in his hiding spot for almost an hour before his mother called him inside for dinner!
Turning around, Spence hid his eyes in the crook on one arm. "One..two.." he began.

Giggling happily, Demy quickly ran off to find the most perfect hiding place EVER.
Which was in a bush on the side of the house. A somewhat thorny bush. BUT HEY. That's what made it perfect! Spence wouldn't think he'd hide there!

"Threefourfivesixseveneightnine TEN!!!" Spence quickly whirled around, half expecting Demy to still be standing there. When he wasn't, the elder boy ran off to search for him.

At least Demy was good enough at this game to know when to run and hide. Giggling lowly from his hiding place, the boy waited.

Spence searched the front yard, checking every hiding spot he could think of. Making his way around the side of the house, he glanced briefly at the bushes and dismissed them. Not even Demy would be stupid enough to hide that close to his mom's thorny rose bushes.

Demy giggled again, pleased that Spence didn't seem to think of his hiding space. Moving to cover his mouth, the boy struggled to stay quiet.

Spence's sharp ears picked up the faint giggle and he quickly began trying to find the source, checking everywhere he could think of except those bushes.

As Spence failed to find his hiding place it became harder and harder for the boy to remain quiet. Shifting a bit, Demy gave a slight whimper at the bite of the thorns. But what was a little bit of discomfort for the perfect hiding place? Hrm? Not even Spence was thinking to look here!

Spence stood there pondering a moment. With a sly little smirk the boy raced off around the other side of the house. Once sure he was out of Demy's sight, the youth ducked down, peeking around the side of the house and waiting.
