"You think I'm that cruel?" Perry chuckled. "No, she's really in there. Go see for yourself."

Charlie shook her head. "He's out now. She pointed out the window, although it was hard to see. "He's visiting Joel. Not sure why."

"Joel's here too? That's great. I haven't seen him forever." Abby thought for a moment and tried to imagine how he was doing. She remember that he had loved music and now he was a big star. "Do you think Perry will remember what I used to get?"

Jole managed a smile. "You know I love you, bro," he answered, smirking, "but I'll be darned if I put it past you." He stepped out into the road, still staring into the waffle house window. The lights were on now, and he could make out Charlie, taking to someone who had their back to the window, someone with blonde hair...
He felt sick. A sharp dart of pain suddenly shot through his stomach, and all his breath was knocked out of him.
Even from the back, she's as beautiful as ever.
He took a few more steps towards the Waffle House, finally stopping right outside the door. His hands seemed glued to his sides; his mind was clouded, filled with dreams and memories, all containing a blonde haired girl.
Can I just go in there? Just walk in, and act like we've never been away?
He stood paralysed outside the door, his eyes desperately fixed on the floor.
Now what?...

"How could I forget?" Perry stepped around Jole, grinning. He recited the orders of the quartet, then flashed Abby a winning smile. He threw his arm around her shoulder, giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Welcome back Picasso." Charlie waved to Jole, feeling a pang of hurt. She knew that Jole liked Abby a lot, but usually ignored it. She didn't want to be jealous or anything, cause she wasn't! She sat back down, then held the book out to Abby. "Can you help me understand Plato?"

"You're amazing as always Perry." Abby smiled. Just hearing him recite her usual made her stomach growl. "Still sounds good too." She laughed. "Sure." Abby smiled but then looked at out the door. "Who are you waving at?" She asked and then looked back at Charlie. "Is it Billy?"

As Perry cooly stepped around him, Jole couldn't move a muscle. He saw Perry kiss Abby on the cheek, and barely registered Charlie waving at him.
Then something clicked.
Jole placed his biggest, most-photogenic smile on and walked straight up to Abby, his eyes wide and shining.
"Abby, babe!" He held out his arms, still grinning like a maniac. "It's good to see you, sweetheart! What's happening, how you been, honey? You look amazing!"

Abby's eyes went wide. "Joel!" She screamed and jumped into his arms wrapping her legs around him. Thanks to her roommate this was a new habit of hers. She did this to all of her friends. Abby jumped down and smiled apologetically. "Sorry. New habit. I've been great. What about you super star? How have you been?"

Charlie went to pour everyone their drinks, stopping to remember Jole's new order. Damn, he was throwing her off with this no cream no sugar stuff. Just in case. "Hey Abby, you didn't do anything freaky like change what you like in your coffee over the year did you?" She called over her shoulder.
Perry chuckled as he set the stuff to cook.

Jole gasped in shock as Abby threw herself into his arms. He was used to over-reactions from girls in California when they recognised him in the streets, but Abby was always the shy type, just like him.
Wow... I think I like this new Abby...
"Oh Abby!" he cried out, laughing manically. She jumped down and apologised, smiling in such a way that Jole forgot anything else existed.
"What about you super star? How have you been?"
Jole put on his best lady-charmer act.
"Oh, I've been just amaze, babe, just amaze," he recited cooly, smiling in a slightly proud way. "I've had a lot of stuff going down, you know. I've changed a lot." He eyed her clothes, which were bright and beautiful.
"I see you've done a fair bit of changing yourself," he chuckled, and leaned back against a booth in a pose he hoped looked very casual.

A young Asian boy waltzed in grinning. "Charlie-chan!" He exclaimed happily. Charlie leaped about ten feet in the air, spilling hot coffee over her hand. "Daichi!" she gasped, clutching her hand. The boy's grin faded. "Sorry!" he ran to her side, grabbing the hand in and sticking it in the sink, switching on the cold water.

Abby turned to Charlie. "I might have changed but not that much. I still like my coffee hard and black." She turned back to Jole. "What can I say I had a roommate that loved to take her shopping. I guess my change is because of her. You don't think it's a bad change do you?" She asked.

Charlie pulled her hand away from Daichi, grinning weakly. "I-I'm fine." She went over to finish the coffee, which was pretty simple, two blacks, and brought it over to the two.

"No, no, of course not," he gushed, still smiling idiotically at Abby.
Suddenly, Charlie's sharp comment cut through Jole's dream world like a knife. He turned back to the kitchen and shouted back, "Hey, what do you mean weird? I'll have you know these abs don't just appear by themselves!"
Satisfied, he turned back to Abby, hoping she heard about his new trim physique and would like to examine it, when a voice he didn't recognise called from the doorway.
It was one of Charlie's friends. As he rushed over to help Charlie with a spilled coffee, Jole sighed impatiently. This was not working out the way he planned it.

Charlie grinned. "You had those abs before you started changing your coffee." She smiled. "Oh, this is Daichi, he's a regular." She waved a hand to Daichi, who was waving foolishly. "He's still in high school."
