"Aa-choo!"
Coralie sneezed back to reality, shivering in the chilly wind. She hadn't realized that she had been daydreaming. It seemed as if all the students had already entered the school - she was going to be the last. Hurriedly, she grabbed her bags and started off.
"Ow," she winced as she dropped a bag filled with heavy, hard-covered books on her toe. The blond let out a sigh and picked the bag up again, slowly making her way to the staircase before stopping at the doors.
"Ah..." she stared up at the elaborate designs on the surface, wondering how on earth she was going to get in with these bags. Maybe I shouldn't have brought all my books, she sighed to herself before trying the door with her shoulder. The attempt was in vain, as they were much too heavy for her weak self. With a sigh of frustration, Coralie set down her bags and pushed, managing to swing the door open.
She struggled to hold it there as she tried to pull her belongings in, heaving with great effort, but to no avail. She had set her bag of books down too far away from the door, and only her clothes had made it into the hall. Coralie sighed once more, staring at the bag outside as she fought to keep the door open. How was she going to manage this?
Her dark sapphire eyes watched the two twins walk down the hall and she bit her lip. At this rate, she really was going to be the last one. She wanted to call out for some help but before she even opened her mouth, her voice caught and her whole face flushed bright red and hot. The girl clapped her hands to her cheeks and mentally beat herself for not being able to drag the bags in or even ask for help. How are you going to last the year if you can't even do this? Oh, Cory, why are you so useless?

"Eavesdropping Rylan?" Aaric said with a small laugh to himself. It seemed he was more excited about this than his twin, although that was probably more childish of him. He pulled out a chair next to his brother, not feeling very social at the moment. The castle's interior didn't particularly impress him, but it was certainly enough to accommodate all of the students for the school year. He looked around the room to the princess with a spider perched on her arm. Disgusting, he decided. Spiders didn't make him squeamish, like the frightened young lady who had jumped out of her chair, but they were certainly disgusting. Aaric sighed and moved his gaze around the room. It seemed nearly everyone was here by now. At least, it seemed that the dining hall was full of people. The staff seemed to be busy with the spider ordeal, but as soon as someone killed the thing, they could get on with business.
Looking around the room, Amira spotted the cause of all of the commotion. She took a step back out of fright. Spiders were definitely not her favorite thing, and to have one crawl on your arm... That would be horrible. Deciding not to judge the princess, Amira swallowed and looked away, moving to take a seat next to a nicely dressed royal, although she seemed rather out of sorts at the moment. Perhaps the spider had frightened her as well? In any case, Amira hoped the faculty would put the spider safely out of their sight, and out of the food. She was expecting this place to be more orderly. The staff seemed to be ready to do something though, and this eased her a little. Still, she kept her eyes averted from the eight-legged beast, and rose her feet a little off of the floor, just in case. Amira swallowed nervously. Bugs were a fear of hers, and the servants would always kill them for her. But as for spiders, especially of that size... They definitely frightened her.
Lady Taite looked over at her cousin. He certainly was a charmer... She sighed as she looked at the commotion caused by the insect... Wait, spiders weren't insects... Were they? She sighed again before looking up to Lady Florizel. "Could we not just release it outside? That isn't a proper pet for a princess, neither at home or at the Academy. After she's gone through the school year, hopefully she'll have learned that. She needs discipline. I know it's her first day... But it's not as if we're killing it," Lady Taite finished confidently, looked disgustedly at the princess. She couldn't believe that she had defied her authority.
Lord Lawley looked at the distraught look on the faculty's faces. "If you wish, I could release it into the wild. Or kill it..." he said thoughtfully. He shook his head to himself, realizing it would most likely be traumatic for the poor girl. "She knows it isn't something we would tolerate. It was foolish of her to bring it here. I believe Lady Taite is correct."

Grace turned as a very purple princess took the other seat next to her. She didn't seem too prissy, and Grace had noticed that the princess had seemed squeamish about the spider as well. Somehow she felt closer to her because of this. "Hello," she said with a friendly manner. She was eager to forget the spider incident and the none-too-friendly prince on the other side of her. "I'm Grace Bellamont." Did princesses shake hands? she suddenly wondered. After a moments hesitation, she offered her hand anyway.
Lady Florizel sighed. "Lord Lawley, Lord Taite, perhaps the two of you had better see her after orientation? Lord Taite, you may be able to convince her to be rid of it. And Lord Lawley, you may take it from her by force if necessary. Lady Taite is right - such a monstrosity would not be tolerated in a civilized court, so it shall not be tolerated here." She gave the two lords a nod, having made her decision. After that, she looked around at the students. "We seem to be missing a girl..." She turned to the nearest prince with blue eyes, who seemed to be one of a pair of twins. "Could you check the hall and entranceway?" she asked.
Rylan was surprised at being addressed. "Oh yes, of course. I believe I saw a princess on the way in. I shall go find her." He stood and bowed to the headmistress, then briskly but properly headed out of the dining room. he discovered the princess in question having difficulty getting her bags through the doors. He quickly hid an amused smile. "May I offer you some help?" he asked kindly. "I'm Rylan Bromley. I apologize for not greeting you earlier - my brother and I were under the impression that we were late."
Lord Taite flashed a smile at the headmistress. "We'd be delighted to, wouldn't we Lawley?" he asked, turning his head to look at the knight. The two could hardly be more dissimilar. They were both tall of course, but Lord Taite was thin where Lawley was muscular. Taite was more of a jokester, while Lawley was more serious. Taite was a slacker, Lawley a hardworker. Perhaps that was why they got along so well. He turned to look at the girl again. He wasn't entirely confident in his abilities to relieve her of the spider, but perhaps he could weaken her resolve.

Damien raised his eyebrows as the princess - Grace, she said her name was - turned to the new arrival. How polite. A smirk crossed the boy's face and he leaned in to the conversation as well, feeling particularly irritating and brattish today.
"Grace, hm? Doesn't suit you. I'm Damien. And who might this splendidly lovely princess be?" he asked the girl with purple hair, a charming grin spreading over his face. No way Grace was getting rid of him that easily! He was bored, and he needed entertainment. Now. It might be childish, but hey, he was only seventeen. No matter how the authorities tried to pound their dignity and fancy ideas of nobility into him, he was still a kid.
Coralie had been staring hopelessly at her bag when one of the twins came down the hall. She hadn't heard him until he was close by, and jumped at his voice, startled. He was better looking than she had thought, and that, combined with her pitiful situation, caused her face flush again. Quickly, Coralie looked away, feeling her cheeks grow hotter as she urgently looked for something to distract her.
I'm being rude, she thought, and forced herself to turn to the prince. Her gaze fell to the floor, though, as she searched through her mind for the right words. When she had found them, she gathered her composure and smiled up sheepishly, clearly embarrassed.
"Ah, sorry, thank you! It'd be a great help if you could...help." She paused at her wording, then shook her head and laughed. "Sorry, I'm a little...flustered, at the moment. It's very nice of you to offer your help, tha-" She stopped, looking at him closely. "Are you laughing at me?" she asked with a mix of suspicion and mortification.

Amira turned as Grace addressed her. "I'm Amira Hammel," she said, shaking her hand. Not the normal greeting of course. Normally she would bow or curtsy, but in the situation a handshake would be fine. It wasn't too strange in any case. "It's nice to meet you." She smiled as the handshake ended and looked over Grace. She was dressed nicely, but she didn't look quite like a princess, even if she was attending to the school. Most likely, she was just of a high royal standard. This didn't bother Amira at all, of course. It was wonderful to meet new people; new people of all statuses. Then she looked to the young prince and reintroduced herself, shrugging off his rude comment to Grace. "Amira Hammel," she said politely.
"Of course," Lord Lawley said, looking back at Lord Taite. They were very, very different, but Lady Florizel knew they got along well. Lord Taite was a little foolish and slacked off quite a lot, but it was always interesting to be around him. He followed Lord Taite's gaze to the young princess. He was sure that Lord Taite could charm it out of her, but even more sure it would definitely be taken away from her in the end. "It seems that she's rather attached to it though," he commented, looking back at Lord Taite.
Lady Taite smiled, glad that her suggestion had been accepted by Lady Florizel. And of course her cousin would be assigned to take it away from the girl. She hated to admit it, but he was handsome. Lady Taite smiled to herself, glad that she had gotten him to attend the Academy. Of course, he had been reluctant, but his position was perfect for him, and he always made things fun. It seemed that Lord Lawley thought the same thing too, by his attitude toward Lord Taite.
"Yes, of course," Aaric said to his headmistress. To defy her would be more than idiotic. He recalled passing a girl on the way in, but she didn't seem to have been in much turmoil at that moment. He followed his brother out, popping out from behind him. "And I would be the brother. Rylan is much too polite and stuffy to laugh at you. I'm Aaric Bromley. May I take your bags for you?" he offered the frail, but beautiful looking princess. She seemed rather distraught and, though he felt it was rude to think so, weak.

"Nice to meet you, Amira." Grace shrugged at Damien. "It was my mom's idea, not mine... And who asked you anyway Prince Charming?" she asked abruptly. "You know, the effect of a 'dashing' smile' is quite ruined when you're insulting the girl next to her." She rolled her eyes at him. Hopefully the other guys were nicer. With that thought, she surveyed the table, taking in the 'sights'. The violet-haired and red-haired princes seemed promising. She turned back to her two companions.
Lord Taite shrugged unconcernedly at his friend. "That's where you come in, am I right?" he asked. "I know I wouldn't want to touch the creature. It's probably poisionous. Do you think it's deadly?" He didn't seem to realize this wasn't exactly a helpful conversation for the knight.
Rylan barely hid his smile as his brother showed up. "Always vying for the attention of the ladies, eh Aaric?" he asked, bumping his brother's arm with his elbow. "Stuffy, am I?" He shook his head in disbelief. "Anyway, you're welcome Princess...?" he left off, as she hadn't introduced herself yet, and he slipped between the doors and lifted a bag, leaving Aaric to take the heavier one.

Coralie smiled at the second twin as he appeared, her cherry-red flush fading to a slight tinge of pink in her cheeks. The girl laughed slightly at the show between the brothers - they must really be close, she thought with envy. Coralie looked up sheepishly at Rylan again.
"I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? I can be terribly impolite sometimes. I'm Cory - Coralie - White," she corrected herself. She was a little scatterbrained and flustered at being in a completely new place with completely new people.
"Ah, you shouldn't worry about this one," she told Rylan, indicating the bag of clothes. "It's only clothing, I think I can carry that. But, the books..." she looked over at Aaric. Soon you'll be forgetting which is which, she sighed inwardly. "The books are a bit heavy for me, I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have brought them. It's making me an awful burden." Her parents were apparently just as scatter-brained as she, as they had forgotten that she would need some help because of her...condition. If only she had let her cousin help her pack - she would have realized that such books were too heavy for her.
At the thought of her condition, a slight cough sounded, followed by a sneeze. Coralie blinked with her hand to her face. Ah, another cold... She was used to them, but it didn't make it any more pleasant.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I've probably held up the whole school by now as well as troubled the two of you," she apologized. "Here, Aaric - no, Rylan - let me take the clothes, and we should hurry. What an impression to make on the first day, hm?" she laughed with embarrassment. If only she hadn't been daydreaming after she had arrived, surely she would have gotten to the dining hall early.
Damien grinned. "Pleasure to meet you, Amira."
His gaze turned to Grace as he leaned back in his chair. "Ah, yes, I know. I'll need some work on that. I've never been much of a charmer, you know. I -"
He suddenly wondered what on earth he was doing. Cold, cynical Damien had been reduced to irritating girls for enjoyment? His grey eyes flashed darkly and he moved back from the conversation, suddenly withdrawing. He needed some time for himself before he dropped the last of his dignity down the drain. He cracked a last, slight smile at the girls before reforming his expression into its previous stoniness.
"I'm sorry, ladies, I'm going to retire from conversation for the moment. Don't be too disappointed."
I need to get some sleep, he thought as he slunk back in his seat. His gaze wandered subtly around the room and landed finally on the large spider. He busied himself with observation, allowing his repressed fascination to release itself in his mind. What was it, exactly? Spiders that big were not commonly seen. It had to be a different species - or maybe a mutation? If so, what had caused it? How did she get it? He lost himself in thought as he stared at the eight-legged creature, slightly disturbed yet still drawn in by its appearance and movements.

"That was strange," Amira said quietly to Grace, so that Damien wouldn't hear. "I take it you two don't get along too well?" She smiled weakly as Damien turned away, now staring with glazed eyes at the spider, she realized. Amira wondered what had caused the sudden change of heart. Perhaps he felt bad for teasing Grace, she thought hopefully. "You seem to be rather... unhappy around each other," she said, trying not to giggle. It was a little silly, fighting like children. But then again, she may have done the same thing, depending on the situation. Grace seemed nice though, and Damien was too, at least to her he was.
"Of course," Aaric said, grinning sheepishly at Rylan before turning back to Coralie. He moved out from behind his brother to pick up the bag full of books. It was a little heavy, much more than he would expect Coralie to be able to handle. He figured the flustered princess's nickname was Cory, but decided not to comment on it. "No trouble at all. You seem to be a bookworm, just like Rylan," he said, grinning again. "You seem a little ill, too. Need to go to the infirmary? I'm sure the headmistress won't mind you being late if she sees you're sick." Aaric had noticed her coughing.
Lord Lawley sighed goodnaturedly. "You certainly know how to make me enthusiastic about a job," he told Lord Taite. "If it is deadly, it's a wonder her parents let her keep it." He looked again at the princess, cradling the creature in her arms still. Lord Lawley couldn't imagine having a spider for a pet, nor could he imagine what the princess had been thinking when she brought the spider into the academy. "But don't worry about touching it. That's my job, I'm assuming."

It was at Lord Taite's statement that the spider could be poisionous that made Lady Maybelline speak. "Oh please Lord Taite. If it were deadly, as Lord Lawley as stated, her parents would surely have thrown it out years ago . Common sense is something you should surely consider using." Her smooth and clear voice was almost taunting, but that was not obvious. She smiled at the Lord, her blonde hair falling smoothly over her tanned face.
Maxwell felt so out of place in this large building. He sat there, soft orange hair hiding his face. He only chuckled at the spider incident, having seen much worse back at the estate. And it only made him look forward to what seemed like a lousy school year ahead of him.

Aurora frowned at the conversations that were going around her. She gave a small puff upward towards her bangs as her blond bangs flew a bit. This was going to problematic for sure if she kept Webster around. But she couldn't just let him go. Aurora frowned about the thought of the princess named Grace had scream. She couldn't blame her. Most girls hated spiders. 'Ah, typical princesses...' her mind roam on that thought. She was raised differently unlike the others. She was well-mannered and lady-like most of the time but it was just at the moment right now where she felt like she had to rebel to keep Webster from the authorities getting their hands on him. Like she said before, she was always known as the weird one.
Aurora had heard a comment from the prince that sat nearby her who wanted her to thank him. 'Miss Not-A-Princess?' she thought of his comment. She also have been hearing about his conversation with the girl who had screamed and figure he wasn't the type of person that she wouldn't likely to hang out with. She gave him a small dirty look, "Well thank you oh-so-much Mr. I'm-So-High-And-Mighty. I never asked you to reprimand for me," she said as she looked away. She would've thanked him properly if he was politer. He seemed like the kind of princes who were obnoxious and self-centered and wanted to be praised or something. She felt bad for judging the prince before knowing him well but her blood was already boiling about overhearing the discussions at the authority table, especially wanting to kill Webster was being one option of theirs to get rid of him.
Her aqua-marine eyes shifted to look over at another prince who had stood up and waved his hand, seemingly to get her attention. She couldn't really get his question but she could figure what he was trying to say. Aurora shook her head, "He's not my guardian. Just my pet FRIEND WHO I WON'T GIVE AWAY NO MATTER WHAT THEY DECIDE!" Her voice rosed up near the end to make sure that the authorities could hear her. Aurora was feeling bad for yelling out her conversation to the other prince. She mouth the words, Sorry, to him and gave him a slight smile. This perfectly ruined her first day.

Grace blinked once or twice at Damien's sudden silence. "Well, that's the best suggestion you've made all morning," she told him with a grin. She turned to Amira. "It wasn't going too badly until I screamed about the spider. As if it were my fault...." She shrugged. "What classes are you looking forward to the most? I think Rhymes and Riddles seems the least disastrous - for me at least."
"Perhaps we'd better get her to the dining room first and then see what can be done?" Rylan suggested. "It seems as if it's just a cold. But do tell us if you feel any other symptoms, Princess Coralie." He didn't notice that she was momentarily confused as to who was who. It happened to them frequently around new people. Later though, they would realize that their eye color was different, and if they couldn't identify them from each other by that alone, Rylan was usually more studious and well-mannered while Aaric was the stronger and usually more outgoing one.
Lord Taite turned to Lady Maybelline with a pleasant smile. "Why Lady Maybelline, I had never guessed you'd be a master of common sense. Perhaps you could educate me?" he asked, green eyes laughing. He wasn't one to rise to anger or respond badly to criticism. Especially when it came from a lady - that would quickly rule him out of their consideration. When in doubt smile - it confuses people. Or so they say.

Damien blinked his eyes at the girl with the spider, who had just said something to him. "I'm sorry, what?" he asked. He was, quite plainly, confused. Reprimand...oh.
His look of bewilderment turned cold, and he leaned his head on his hand. "I wasn't talking to you," he muttered, dropping his gaze from her face to her spider once more. Silly girl. He had been talking to Grace, pestering her to thank him after he had attempted to divert the room's attention from her scream.
Draped lazily in his seat, Damien stopped staring at the spider and watched the happenings of the room instead. The first day was certainly chaotic, thanks to the spider and the damn last student who still hadn't appeared yet. What was taking her so long? He wanted to get this over with and go sulk in his room. The boy let out a dramatic sigh again and closed his eyes, wondering if it was possible to sleep here.
Coralie smiled brightly at the twins, having gotten over her embarrassment by now. In fact, she had probably forgotten about it.
"Bookworm? I suppose. I've always liked reading, since I wasn't playing outside all that much." Her breath caught in her throat and she coughed again. At Aaric's suggestion to go to the infirmary, she shook her head. "Your brother's right, it's probably just a cold. I get them often. You need not trouble yourselves over me." She glanced at the bags they were carrying, and laughed awkwardly. "More than you already have, anyway."
Her blue eyes glanced anxiously around the room as she entered with tentative steps. She was a little nervous about being the last, and hoped that nobody was upset over it.
"Where shall I sit?" she wondered quietly to herself, scanning for an empty seat. She turned to the boys and smiled apologetically. "I hate to be a burden, but if you could maybe drop the bags off at an empty seat? Anywhere is fine, I'm not picky. I just think I should explain myself to the headmistress, and apologize for being late. I've probably held the whole room up quite a while."

"Very true," Amira agreed. "Spiders frighten me as well. Only someone insane would allow one to climb onto their arm." She shuddered slightly at the thought, still looking away from the creature. The thought of merely touching one sent shivers down her spine. "Rhymes and Riddles sounds fun," she agreed. "I think Looking Glass Class would be easiest, but Dancing sounds like a lot of fun. Especially since its with the boys." Amira tried not to seem too eager. Both coed classes would definitely be very fun, and she loved to dance, even if she wasn't exactly a master at it herself. She just hoped that all of the teachers were nice.
"Yes, that's probably best. I don't think she'll be too angry, hopefully," Aaric agreed with Coralie. He decided to drop the conversation of her sickness, since she didn't seem to be too bothered by them. It also seemed to be the reason that she was so into reading. "You're not a burden at all, Coralie. And you can sit by us if you like," he added, entering the dining room behind her. "Since you already know us." The twins and she made their way towards the front of the dining hall, towards their table and much closer to the headmistress and instructors. Aaric placed her bags by the twin's chairs. Normally he would pull out Coralie's chair for her, but she had to go see the headmistress first.
Lord Lawley ignored the outburst from the princess. Aurora, if he remembered correctly. Clearly she had little to no respect for authority. He felt a little bad about taking away her vulgar pet, but she shouldn't have been so foolish as to take it into a place such as the academy. It was best just to ignore her outrageous behavior, and deal with it at a later date. Lord Lawley turned back to the conversation to see Lady Maybelline lecturing Lord Taite. He realized that most teachers were annoyed by his friend, but that didn't bother him much. Besides, Lord Taite always had a nice reply to whatever criticism came his way.

The Lady caught the humor and seemed to return it with a generous smile. "Of course Lord Taite. But we'd have to start from the very beginning then, wouldn't we," smiled Lady Maybelline, her light green eyes glittering. A slender hand reached up from its position on her lap to brush away a stray strand of glossy, blonde hair. "Lady Florizel, perhaps we should begin our introduction before we completely loose control?
