Udo chuckled, but nodded. "That's right, Orika - what else can you see Kumiko for?" He knew the girl must be sore at him, only because it had been her father to sacrifice himself as well. Udo thought for a minute - he had wrongly assumed that the academy students would only care about the history of shinobi on the village, not of the village people themselves. He should probably have asked before blindly assuming that, especially since Orika was both a villager and a shinobi...one of the few that had been here since the very beginning of Shimagakure. With a small sigh of disgust with himself, Udo began to set water to boil, debating what ingredients to use while the noodles were softened.

Along the journey the snake child had gotten side tracked with the crickets from earlier. There were three of them playing some bug tune. It took enough of the boy’s attention that he did not notice his jubilant peer dart off ahead of him. It took him a few minutes to realize he was being left behind. This did not stop the serpent boy from taking his time. Since it was not technically a class and he was not going to be the first there, his form did not see any reason to rush. Shisei entered in time to hear that the nurse with the large rack had another talent besides healing. Shisei scoffed at the comment. There was no doubting she was a good nurse. The snake like child knew from experience, but could there be anymore besides medical? Probably not. The snake child took a seat between the hooded nameless and the girl who just could not be at peace for more than five minutes. Gold eyes did not pay either any attention.

Really. What else would that woman know? Shisei’s first encounter with her was after the small bruises obtained from the battle with Samehada. Tenko was very kind hearted, but she did have some strange behaviors around some members of the staff. None of them male. Kumiko was somewhat kind, but her attention was usually more to swaying the two melons on her chest like fruit hanging from a tree in the wind. The only other time the snake child saw the flirty nurse was in the academy yesterday just before he left. She was planning to teach the girls about make up and other useless stuff. Just then the boy’s mind produced a scene of the past.

It was Shisei and the outsider that his mother grew so fond of. They were walking back home with some groceries when the outsider talked to one of his female friends. As the woman left his voice began to talk with the serpent youth. “Hey. Did my little monster did you get a good look at that?”. “No of what?” was the orochi child’s reply.

“Heh. You’re too young to understand, but one day you will.”

“Understand what?”

“Well there are two things that can soothe a savage beast like me and you. Women have them both, but you can only see one most of the time.”

“?”

“Here’s a lesson in life. The day you start noticing funbags, don’t get too entranced. Women will try to control you with them. Keep that in mind.”

“I’ll commit it to memory…”

The intelligent boy sort of got the gist now of what he meant. He blew the thought away from his head and on to more important things. “The woman probably teaches girls how to use their breasts to trick men.” the voice of Shisei let out ending the idea. His brain was already on something more important. Udon. “May I have a Miso Nikomi Udon?” the child politely asked. His stomach was feeling for chicken and raw cracked egg that floated within miso soup of this specific dish.

Xyn
... where was that raven anyway?

Munin tried to settle on a suitable perch, somewhere high enough so that he wouldn't be seen, but close enough to the street so he could observe everyone. Unfortunately, the moment one of his claws touched the roof tiles of a nearby building, a tingled stirred in his beak. A weak but unprepared sneeze came from the bird, causing him to frantically try and regain his footing while trying to hide himself at the same time. The flapping of his wings would have been easily heard, but he had retreated behind the building before anyone could look up.

Safely on another hidden perch, Munin decided to slip into the shadow of a small chimney. He normally wouldn't bother getting up this early, but he had determined today was Xyn's birthday. Xyn had always given the bird some kind of present, but Munin had yet to give one to the boy. The only problem is he didn't really understand humans or what they liked, and even for a human, Xyn was a strange one. Maybe he could figure out what humans liked from watching a few people...

Munin's attention immediately went to Sorri. He and Xyn seemed to spend a lot of time together, although neither really seemed happy when the other was around. Did that human know it was Xyn's birthday? Maybe he was going to get the boy a present too...

But... wasn't this a class? Why wasn't Xyn in this group? Maybe he got left behind...? Xyn had been acting somewhat strangely ever since the last time he met with that girl with the tiger. OH! Maybe she was getting a present for Xyn?

Munin shook the extra thoughts from his head. He had to keep his mind clear. Sorri seemed to be about to get food... but food was a terrible present for a birthday... unless it was really really good food. Munin started to consider swiping the food from Sorri the second he got it. He remembered seeing humans eating something referred to as 'cake' on their birthdays before opening presents, but Xyn never had much of a sweet tooth, so this food might be perfect.

Karite walked in feeling the heat of the place warming his cold fingers and toes, but he said nothing and unwrapped the scarf from his head. As he did the long green hair fell upon his face. Shaking his head so only a few strands blocked his vision he leaned against the wall next to the door. He did not want to get to close in this manner yet he still wanted to participate. In the right light even Karite could look a little menacing, but maybe he would control it someday. Today though, wasn't going to be the day. As his silver dead eyes traveled across the room he noticed that Akiko still wasn't here. Yet Shisei was talking more then usual and this time about breast. Not a bad subject to talk about with friends but in the presense of a little not the best choice in conversation.

Udo paused mid-knife stroke and eyed Shisei warily. Now just what the hell was going on here!? "Listen here, Shisei...that may be true, but it's not their fault that our weaknesses are easy to exploit. Now, let's change the subject: who's that big ol' fart at the weapon shop, makin' all those kunai and shuriken, hmmm?" Prodo wanted to pinch his nose and give the nurses a talking to, considering they were supposed to be medical aid and not giving these kids ideas already of what the female body was really for...

Shisei just stared back at the man. He didn’t understand why he was watching him with suspicious look. Did he say something wrong? No couldn’t be. The man agreed. Instead of pushing the subject the serpent youth decided to let it slide. After all his brain was more concerned with the udon being cooked. Hopefully for him. The snake allowed one eye to peer back in the corner to see Karite standing with his back to the wall. The green jungle on his head now had vines clinging to his face and shrouding his eyes. A little odd that he decided not to sit. Then again maybe not. Perhaps something happened between him and another student. Either way it was irrelevant to Shisei. The single gold orb returned to the front of the shop after hearing the next question. The snake child was not sure of whom this person could be. A weapon shop owner? Well maybe a few questions could enlighten the answer. “Is this person a shinobi?” the serpent youth questioned.

Udo considered it for a moment, and gave a small shrug. "He's a blacksmith, at any rate. I'm not sure what his skills as a shinobi are. One egg or two?" Udo scooped liquid and chunks of chicken goodness into a decent sized bowl, and cracked one egg, dropping it in and waiting to see if the Orochi wanted another. It wasn't a dish he made often; most people liked their food completely cooked. But Udo had had enough experience around Tonato to know that he would eventually have to serve a variety of things. And having learned that early, he was prepared for any unusual request he might have gotten on the island...though Shisei was the first and would probably be the only to ask for Miso Nikomi. Udo thought about putting up a board with all the different dishes he could make...

Karite lowered his head as he remembered the work he made him do to get that staff. It was hard, but it just meant he was one step closer to becoming something he never dreamt he could be. A fighter and a protector. Thats what it was all about. While he may have been running from his past his future was open to the new horizons he forged with his own hard work and blood. He had no status to determine what he could or could not do. It was all done by him, where he would go and who he would be. He was finally free of his cage. not lifting his head to speak Karite spoke in a very calm and unenergetic tone which was not usually like him. "I do believe his name is Hotarius Hammah. He is a rather large man with even larger muscles and smell."

Tsk, tsk, tsk... Orika chucked and shook her head when Udo claimed to know all about Kumiko. "Nah, Udo-san, Shisei's right. Yesterday, Kumiko taught all the girls to use their feminine charm to get what they want!" The heat from the steaming noodles was making her sleepy so the girl casually laid her head on the counter, snuggling into the comfort of her arms while the boys chattered on about boring facts. She was always too slow to get the answers before either Karite or Sorri popped up, but that was alright. Once she got some food in her belly and wasn't distracted no more, Orika knew she could beat those guys with no problem. "Ya got bukkake udon, Blondie-san? Surprise me with the toppings!" Orika wasn't too picky; All she wanted was a nice, cold noodle dish with some flavor. While she waited for her food, the energizer bunny felt a cooling breeze sweep through the shop, like a divine wind from heaven on the stuffy atmosphere. "I'll be right back! Orika said, already speeding away from the store and towards freedom. And synonymous with independence came a fluttering of the freeish animal. The girl followed the bird, ever curious, until it unwittingly led her to a residential alcove away from the main street. Orika hadn't gone too far; Karite's voice still rang clear and she could get back to the udon shop in a few steps. She frowned, eyes searching for a colorful plumage common to tropical birds, but instead rested upon a black shape distinct from the surrounding shadows. That was weird; Birds like that weren't native to Shimagakure. It... kind of looked familiar, but she couldn't put a finger on why this... raven? was special. "Hi there..." Orika chirped, her voice lowered so as to not scare the dark feathers away.

His mind was slightly annoyed that Karite had gotten the answer before he could finish a rational analysis. It was supposed to be his win. When the only female of the group spoke up, the boy’s mood changed slighty. “Feh. Told you so.” Shisei said to the intelligent cook. Orika had validated his point about the nurse. The snake youth felt satisfaction in the fact he was right. Yet his face did not make any movement to indicate his self pride. It made no expression at all. “I’d like two eggs please.” his voice stated as the girl next to him decided to hop off her chair and out of the shop. That only left the three boys. All three of them mute at the moment.

Udo groaned, cracking the second egg as he heard Orika. "Listen, I never said that wasn't true, it's just something I prefer not to discuss with underage kids." Udo had his own selfish reasons for keeping Kumiko and her breasts out of the conversation, but there was no reason to tell these brats his personal business. He prepared Orika's dish, not even paying attention to what he added to it - toppings? The usual, Udo managed to keep himself together long enough to add tororo and okra...though after that his mind wandered. Orika might be surprised to find small, shrimp-like objects in the dish - mini-shrimp tempura!? Udo was really absent minded today! He placed Shisei's dish before him, and set out Orika's where she had been sitting. Karite had been the only one to not mention what he wanted, so Udo just gave him a bowl of something similar to what he gave Shisei, except with just one egg and much more chicken. The boy, after all, had a lion cub hanging around him. If they were going to be partners, the boy would have to learn how to share. "Regardless - a couple questions and you guys will be free for the day. Let's see...ah, I know. There's a cocky red-headed ANBU that's out on the war right now - and he's got a nasty partner. What's her name and where'd she come from?"

Ooh, that was a hard one. Orika heard Udo's silky chords ask another question for the students and although she knew exactly which brutish ANBU the shopkeeper was referring to, the name of his maniacal bird somehow escaped her. Shinichi-sama usually referred to the speckled demon as 'she-devil' or as a curse she couldn't repeat. Orika mulled over the bird's identity, especially since there were only two questions left and she wanted to get them both, show how much she really knew. It occurred to the girl that Udo described Shinichi-sama as 'cocky', as though the man knew him personally. She knew the librarian was a bit crazy, but did he really put the jounin's personalities into the history book? And moreover, the war was a recent event while the book Udo had been holding was already yellowing at the edges. Just who exactly was this seemingly simple shopkeeper...? There certainly were a lot of mysterious characters on Shima.
