At First Sight
Austin had actually managed to stay in school until recess. That was a shock in and of itself, but there was a reason. After so many notes and calls from the school Jake had said that he wouldn't feed him unless he started staying the entire day. Chloe had agreed.

Austin didn't like to cook for himself. Thus he was looking around the playground with kohl rimmed eyes, wondering what in the hell he should do with himself.

Recess was fun, though it wasn't Rhye's most favorite time of day. She would have much prefer to be some where else, reading a good book. At the moment, she was skipping rope, off tot he side with some others. Her sister had recess at another time.

While she jumped, seeing how many times the rope could pass under her before she landed, the sunlight caught on a the gold armbrace that she never went without. Atreyu wouldn't let her, after all.

The gleam caught his eyes. It was probably fake, of course, kids their age (other than Polly and him) didn't tend to have real gold. But it was worth checking out.

Without a thought the pirate boy shoved his hands into his pockets and sauntered over to where the girls were jumping rope, watching the tailed girl's armband thoughtfully. It looked--well, it was hard to tell with her moving so much--but it looked like a snake.

He caught her eye as he came over. Rhye glanced at him as she jumped, but didn't stop. "Hello," she greeted. It was always good to greet people. "Do you want to try too?" she asked him. Why else would he be here?

She didn't know what was really going through his mind.

"Oh no, no, I'm not the... jumping kind," he said, waving his hands. "I just thought I'd watch for a bit."

"Isn't it boring just watching?" she asked, looking at him now as she stopped. "You can try it, if you want!" She grinned, and offered him the rope. She was offering with the arm that had the snake, now that it was clearer to see.

The odd thing was, it was almost as if the snake were looking at him. There seemed to be little red rubies for the eyes, even. But then, kids didn't have things like that, right?

"Well, if you insist," he said, his eyes on the bracelet. "Kind of a funny arm thingy you've got there. Where'd you get it?" He took the jump rope, but didn't do anything with it.

Red eyes blinked at him and her hand went up to the armling before she gave him a sheepish look. It was coming as a fact to her that people were just curious in things like this. "I don't know really. I've had it since I was a baby. My sister and I both have one."

"You have, huh?" he asked. "Is hers gold too?"

"I think her's is a black-gold, actually," she answered him honestly.

"You should be more careful," Atreyu whispered softly. Her ear gave a little twitch, but she said nothing in response. She wasn't going to let him tell her who she should and shouldn't talk too. Besides, he was just a kid.

"Um, do you want to go play else where?" she asked instead. "Come to think of it, I don't think I've seen you around. I'm Rhye."

"Austin," he said, offering his hand to her. "And sure, if you want to go somewhere." He handed the jump rope off to the nearest girl without even a glance at her. "Swings?" he offered gallantly.

"Sure!" she replied, heading for that direction. "So, Austin, what do you normally like to do during recess?" Not that she knew he skipped.

"Oh, this and that," he said, shoving the unaccepted hand into his pocket as he followed alongside of her. "You know, recess-y things, I suppose. It's all good and fun," until someone got their armband stolen, that was. He glanced over at her again, only now noticing that she was sort of cute.

The gold was the thing that drew his attention, though. "So do you always wear that thing?" he asked.

"Oh, yeah." It wasn't like she had the choice. If she forgot him, Atreyu would just show up and insist to be put on. Besides, it was habit by now, to wear the arm band. It felt odd not too. "Except in the bath, of course. Or changing."

"Pretty attached to it, huh?" he asked. "I guess that makes sense. I've got something I always wear, too," he added, more to make her feel comfortable with him than anything else. He pulled off his hat, revealing the coin that hung on a braid. "See? Course it's not nearly as impressive as yours."

Her eyes caught on the little coin. "Oh cool! I bet it's easier to carry around though," she told him. The impressiveness of the snake didn't really cross her. It was just there, to her.

"You could say that," he said agreeably as they reached the swings. He dropped down in one, his half gloved hands wrapping around the chains. "So you and your sister, you close?" he asked.

"Of course! We're twins," she told him freely, taking the swing next to him. Then she tilted her head at him. "Why are you asking, anyway?"

"No reason!" he said quickly. "It's just I've got a cousin, you could say, and we don't get along all that well. I was just wondering if all families were like that."

But in his mind he was thinking, it'd probably be easier to just get them at the same time...

"It probably depends on the family," she replied to that, accepting his answer. She started to push off lightly then, to swing, not knowing what he was plotting.

"I don't like this," Atreyu whispered again.

Rhye frowned, again not responding to the snake. So what if he didn't like it? She didn't have to do things that pleased him, right?

He stopped, cocking his head at her. "Did you just hiss?" he asked finally when there was no explanation available.

"N-no," she replied, jerking slightly. "Maybe it was the chains?" she suggested quickly. Why she didn't want him to know Atreyu talked was something she'd have to ask herself later. Kash was probably more open with these things.... She didn't know, really.

"Maybe," he said, still looking suspicious. Then he shook it off. "So tell me about yourself, have you ever been on a treasure hunt before?" If she had they would have something in common! Or at least something to create a false bond so he could figure out how to steal her armband.

"Well, no. But I have had treasure fall on me," she said. Not that he knew, but she was referring to the who apology thing Casca did. He had brought gifts and left them near the twins, until they caught him. And then, they didn't really fall on her, just were there. She had liked the way it sounded though.

"Have you?" she then asked him curiously.

"I'm a pirate," he said, looking at her a bit strangely. "That's what we do. Just last weekend I went off on my ship to the middle of the sea to find a treasure!" He was bragging and exaggerating, but that was just a part of his very nature, so he didn't think a thing about it.

"Wow, really? That's so cool!" she replied, so easily impressed. "And here I thought you just liked dressing up like that! Do you go many places? Have a crew?" Her fluffy tail gave a swish on the ground as she leaned more towards him to hear more. "I bet you have all kinds of adventures!" Like in the books!

"Oh, I've got a crew," he said, proud of this fact. Well, technically they were a crew, even though they took turns being the captain and there were only three of them. "I even have a ship," he added. Which was full of air, but hell, weren't they all?

"Can I... Can I go see sometime?" she asked. A pirate ship! That would be so cool! Though it might not be his, since he was just a kid, but there would probably be others, and maybe it was his parent's ship... but a real pirate ship!

He, being the sly fellow he was, didn't even blink. "Sure you can!" he said with a smile. "Hell, bring your sister along! We're going to the island this weekend, anyway."

"Okay!" she agreed quickly. Going with her sister just made it better. But they would have to tell their parents... right? Or leave a note. She wasn't sure, but, well, those details would be figured out later!

Map Yankers
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
Compilation thanks to TB
---------------------
The day they were supposed to go off to the island with the twins found Austin and Kaeden in a dirty hole in the wall store called "Fakir's," looking through the books in the back.

They hadn't found anything really interesting yet, but there were a few old, handwritten books hidden among the others that showed promise. Austin was hoping for a map.

They weren't the only kids at Fakir's this morning, either. Kash and their Mom were busy making up the jewelry and charms that would sell in the mall, leaving Rhye with little to do this weekend before their trip out. So, she had skipped out with some of the produces to sell.

The blue luck dragon didn't notice the boys at first either.

Kaeden looked at the book Austin had pulled. "Ya sure about this?" he asked, skunk tail twitching.

"Who's to say there aren't treasures on Gaia?" Austin asked logically. "An' there's no better place to find a map than an old book, savvy? So we find a map and see if we can't get treasure on both planets!" He flipped through the book, then held it up so the pages fluttered, to see if there was anything stuck between them.

"True, cuz the island can't be the only place," Kaeden said in agreement. There was a little smirk pulling at his lips too, one that quickly faded as he reached for another old book to open up. One of these old things had to have something in it!

Rhye's fluffy ears picked up the word 'island' and she looked over. But there were many book shelves in her way of seeing, so she started to walk towards the voices.

"Nothin'," Austin grumbled, tossing the book over his shoulder and picking up another one. "You find anything yet?" he asked, completely uncaring about how his rough handling was hurting the books.

"Nope, not a thing," Kaeden said, still looking at his for a moment longer, just in case he lost something.

The book that was tossed landed at Rhye's feet. She frowned, picking it up. "Excuse me, what are you doing?" she asked both boys.

Austin blinked, then broke into a grin. "'Ello, Rhye! You wanna give us a hand here?"

"Not if you're going to be tossing books," Rhye replied, checking the book over before stepping between the boys to put it up.

Kaeden just blinked at her. This was one of the girls Austin had talked about? he looked-- Oh, there was the band! She really did wear it all the time, huh? It was gold, too, after all. Were those rubies?

"Yep," Austin said to Kaeden, already knowing what he was thinking. "We gotta look through the books, Rhye, else how are we going to find the treasure maps?" He reached for another book, flipping through it briefly and turning it pages down to see if anything came out. "So what are you doing here?"

"Your map hunting? Thought you had one though," Rhye said, watching him to make sure he would toss another book. "But I was seeing if the owner would sell some other things in his shop."

"We have to get the maps somehow. They don't normally wash up," Kaeden said, putting his book back and getting another one. He didn't toss it, due to the fact this girl was here.

Austin, meanwhile, was staring at the inner cover of an old dried out book. After a second he pulled out a small blade and started prying at the inner paper, pulling it up.

"Austin!" Rhye hissed. "You can't just do that! You don't even own that book," she told him, reaching for the book. It didn't bother her that he had a knife, but that he had cut the book, something that wasn't his!

"Wait wait wait," he said quickly, waving at her hand. "This isn't the real thing, see? It's been glued into place." He finished his surgery, then peeked inside, whistling under his breath as he pulled out a folded sheet of paper.

"We've got something!" he told Kaeden as he leaned back and unfolded the sheet of paper.

"It doesn't matter!" Rhye replied, taking the book form him. she wasn't used to people vandalizing things like this. Kash got things a mess, but she couldn't help that. Bastion was twisted that way. "You still shoulda paid for it first."

Kaeden completely ignored her, going around to check out the map. "Awesome, we've got a map? Seriously?" he asked, looking over the boy's should.

Rhye, seeing how he had been ignored, gave a little huff and inspected the damage on the book.

"No..." Austin said, peering at the sheet. "It looks like a letter." He scowled, wondering what a letter would do them, then stopped as he noticed the word "treasure".

"To my love eternal," he read, starting from the beginning. "Although fate has deemed to separate us, I will forever hold you in my heart. Forgive me for abandoning you and our babe, but I leave you with a treasure that should keep you safe from harm." He flipped the page.

"To find this treasure, you must--"

Rhye held on to the book. Good-girl that she was, someone had to pay for it that that someone would have to be her, right? These two so didn't look like they were into that.

Then she listened to Austin read the letter out loud. Huh.

"See? It -is- a map!" Kaeden replied. "There's more to it, right? So, we'll follow what it says to get to wherever the treasure is."

"Yeah, but that has to be from a long time ago. This place has probably changed since then. And what if it's from somewhere else?" Rhye asked them logically.

Austin gave her a dark look, clearly disappointed by her lack of adventurer spirit. "We'll only find out by seeing, you know," he told her as he stood, pocketing the letter in one of his various pockets. "But somewhere more private, savvy? Where curious onlookers won't hear how to find it."

Then he looked both ways as if expecting someone to appear at any moment.

"Fine, alright, I'll go, but I'm taking the book so wait a moment," she said, curious despite the situation. Kash wanted treasure, after all. If she could find some, well, that would be awesome!

She went to the counter, book in hand, to pay for it. And ask about where it came from as well.

"Should we wait for her?" Kaeden asked, looking over at Austin. "That's more people to share it with, ya know."

"Aye, but while she's distracted we might get a chance at that arm bracelet she's sporting," Austin said, looking around as if to see if there was anything of interest in the shop now that they had a "map."

He would probably be back, he decided. This was definitely a place to find interesting things.

The House on Empth Street
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
--------------------------
"This is the place?" Rhye asked, looking at the old house that looked as though it was falling apart. There weren't any more windows and plants had overrun the yard, and the house. Vines climbed up the walls, almost hiding the rotting wood from view.

"Looks like it. That means this treasures' gonna be in there," Kaeden said, looking at it and not looking worried in the slightest. He then looked at Austin. "What's the letter say?"

"It says 'Our home, the one you dreamed of, on the corner of Empth Street. I still picture the tree swing we promised to hang. Under the fireplace'," Austin read. There was a gigantic tree in front of the house that looked promising for a swing. "And this is Empth Street."

"See? This should be the house. Let's go, Kaeden said, starting to walk up the concrete steps to enter the house. "Under the fire place, right? We'll check there first."

"If it's still all together..." Rhye replied with a sigh, hugging on the book she had bought. Her armband also felt unusually warm to her, but that was probably her imagination playing trick on her.

Austin paused to peer through the dirty glass window next to the front door. He scowled, bringing his sleeve up to try and clean it off, but all it did was smear the dirt. "Looks like we can't see what's waiting for us," he said as he reached for the door handle.

"Yeah, but then, we can just look in when the door's opened," Kaeden added. He hadn't even tried the windows. He also let Austin open the door, hands in his pockets, he looked over at Rhye with a small smirk. "Scared, Rhye?"

"No, why should I be?" Rhye replied defiantly, looking back at him from a small frown.

"Cuz there might be ghosts," he replied easily.

"Aye," Austin said as he walked into the dusty, dark foyer of the house. The floorboards creaked under his weight and he paused for a moment to let his eyes grow accustomed to the dimness.

In front of them was a grand staircase with long wooden railing down both sides. To the right was a room full of cloth draped furniture, a living room of sorts. To the left was the dining room, with a large chandelier hanging above it. There were spiderwebs everywhere. Austin sneezed.

"Woah," Rhye said, looking into the rooms once her eyes adjusted. This was scarry looking at all. In fact, it was interesting looking. She wasn't about to try those stairs, though. Who knew what condition they were in!

Kaeden looked around as well, but didn't say much of anything about it all. Oddly, he had been quieter than normal.

"Anyone see the fireplace?" Austin asked as he looked around, wishing he had brought a flashlight. Then he started patting his various pockets, wondering if he actually had. He had a bad habit of pocketing something and forgetting it was there.

"Wouldn't a fireplace normally be in a living room? That's where ours is, at home," Rhye offered, heading for the room with cloth covered furniture.

"Really? Then we'll start looking there," Kaeden said, then looked back towards Austin. "You sure you don't have a flashlight?"

Austin started patting the pockets of his pants now, searching for a bulge that seemed promising. "I might..." he said, stopping at one pocket and feeling through the material for a moment. "Yeah, this feels like one," he said as he stuck his hand into the pocket and pulled out a flashlight. "Where'd I get this, anyway?" he asked blankly.

"Other than your pants? No idea!" Kaeden replied, then stepped aside so that Austin could lead the way in the dark. "You're the one with the light, you lead," he told the other boy.

"Right, right," Austin said, fumbling with the flashlight for the switch. He blinked as it turned on, then stared into the blue lit cobwebs that it now brought into view. "Guess this is as good a direction as any," he said, starting out.

The floor creaked even more dangerously under his feet.

"Be careful where you step, the floor sounds bad," Rhye warned him at the creaking noise.

"It's old, of course it creeks," Kaeden replied, not bothered by the sound by watching his step anyway.

Austin moved forward, raising his flashlight high and eyeing all the furniture for a moment before his light hit black brick. "There," he said, focusing the light on the fireplace. "Let's get the treasure."

There was a line of dusty pictures hanging on the walls that Austin blatantly ignored.

Kaeden also ignored the pictures as he went forward to find this treasure.

Rhye didn't, however. She peered at the dust covered pictures, trying to see the images under it all. Who were these people? Were they the ones in the letter?

"It said under the fireplace," Austin said, looking at the fireplace that went from ceiling to floor. "But there's no 'under it'. Unless he was talking under the floor," he added, scowling and searching the floor with his flashlight.

"Or under the bricks," Kaeden said, crouching down and starting to wiggle the bricks to see if any was loose. This was an old house. There should be something loose, after all!

Rhye looked up at the ceiling. "You know, I hope this isn't like one of those old houses where they have two fire places. One on the ground floor and one on the top floor."

Austin jerked, blinking at her. "They have those?" he asked. For all he knew, to be honest, all houses had a fireplace or two... or three. He had never actually lived in a house. "You can go look while Kaeden and I pry up these bricks." Or Kaeden did.

"..... I just hope those stairs don't break," the luck dragon said, but she left the boys, heading for the stairs to go up and find out what was up there. Alone. Okay, she'd better not think of that one! She really would get spooked.

"Hey, get your knife. We'll get the bricks up that way," Kaeden told the other boy, his own knife in hand.

Austin pulled out his knife, his eagerness for treasure overwhelming his laziness as he crouched down next to the other boy and started scraping at the bricks.

There were more pictures as Rhye walked up the stairs, some even clean enough to see. There was no picture of a family with a baby. Mostly they were pictures of people from an era before the book had been written.

No woman and child? Huh.... But it was creepy to be doing this too. Here they were, robbing dead people. It was wrong. Yep, very wrong.

But at the same time, she couldn't help but be curious. What was left behind? The stairs Rhye walked on gave creaks and groans, but the wood held. He walked across the second story, looking for the other fire place, if it was here.

There was no fireplace. In fact the rooms seemed empty, as if abandoned long ago. It had a hollow feel to it, not the place where a child had been raised at all.

"This one's loose," Austin said as one of the bricks jiggled. "Gimme a hand, would you?"

"Right," Kaeden replied, going to the brick to pry it up with his friend.

Rhye frowned at this understanding. This.. so wasn't a place a child would have been in. None of the rooms even looked like a kid room. Maybe it was the wrong house, after all. Or it was remodeled. She went back down the stairs. "Nothing up there," she told them on the way down.

Austin stared at the piece of paper hidden under the brick, then pulled it out slowly, making sure not to tear it.

"It's too dark to read it in here," he said as he stood. "Let's go."

Something told him that this wasn't going to be a map.

Pirate's Deed
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
--------------------------
He didn't stop until they reached the park, the piece of paper in his pocket, an irritated look on his face. He had been expecting treasure, dammit! And this was just a stupid sheet of paper. Not even a diamond or a ruby to be seen! He grunted as he dropped down on a bench, pulling out the sheet of paper and unfolding it.

"So what's written on the paper this time? Or is it a 'sorry, no treasure here?'" Kaeden asked, going behind the bench and pulling him self up on the back of it so he could look over Austin's shoulder.

"Maybe it's more like the next step? But that house didn't look like they had even been kids in it," Rhye said, pulling up next to the pirate boy.

He stared at it, then stared at it longer, turning it slightly as if he wasn't sure he was holding it the right way. "I don't understand half of this," he muttered finally. "Except that big, fancy word at the top," he added, showing it to them. "I'm pretty sure it says Deed."

"Let me see that," Rhye said, leaning over to get a better look.

While she was distracted with the paper, the glint of the gold got Kaeden's attention. Well, they were going to get that, right? He started to reach for it. How he was going to get it off her, he didn't know, but as his fingers neared the band she moved again.

"It looks like a deed to a house. Meaning that, who ever has this paper, has the house it belongs too," Rhye told him. Then she frowned again, thinking it over and unaware that someone had tried to get her armband.

"So he was leaving his girl and the kid the house, huh?" Austin said, wanting to distract her as he caught sight of what Kaeden was doing from the corner of his eye. He leaned closer to the paper, trying to read it. "Wait..." he said, something clicking in his mind. "You said there weren't any kids living there, right?"

"Yeah," Rhye said as her own conclusion was coming into place. She was oblivious as to Keaden's attempts. Atreyu was aware of this, however. "And if you found the letter telling her where the deed was, then she'd never found it. So... so someone probably took it from her."

Again, Kaeden's fingers reached for the gold on her arm, brushing against it. That was when he suddenly pulled back, biting back a yelp in pain. What the hell?? He was bit? How??

Austin glanced up, glaring at the other boy for making a sound while working. That idiot! Then he quickly tried to get Rhye's attention back. "Of course she didn't get it," he said. "It was still in the book, right? She must have never realized it was there."

Kaeden glared right back at the other boy, finger in mouth since Rhye wasn't looking. Let him try to get the armband! Eeesh, he wasn't a pickpocket. No, better to out right take it and-- The boy blinked, wondering where that thought came from.

Rhye was just about to glance at Kaeden when Austin spoke again. "Yeah, like I said. So, I guess that's the end of the trip? No big treasure or anything." But what to do with the deed now? And she couldn't help but wonder what happened to the family.

"Aye, but this," Austin said, holding up the piece of paper, "means I own that house, right? So that's the big treasure."

He didn't sound very enthused. What was he going to do with a house in the middle of land? He liked being on the ocean! He wasn't sure he could even sleep without the rocking of the boat underneath him!

"What are you going to do with that old house?" Rhye asked him, as if she knew what he had been thinking. Really, what she had thought, was that he already had a place to stay. "Unless you wanna see about getting it fixed up for later use."

Kaeden then glared at the armband. The snake head looked like it was glaring back at him. But that couldn't be, it was just a bit of gold jewerly. It couldn't move! Nor could it have bit him. There was probably some sharp piece on it-- Except for the fact there was a set of bite marks on his finger.

Whatever, let Austin do it. He was better at that sort of thing.

He frowned, still stuck on the "what do you do with an old house" question and not noticing Kaeden's problem. "Well..." he said. "I'll trade you for it," he grinned at her, waving the piece of paper in front of her as if it were something she'd want.

She lifted a brow at him skeptically. "What would -I- do with it? That old house is creepy, and I got a place to stay. What we could do, though, is see if we can find anything about who lived there, and see if anyone is still living that the house properly belongs too, and give them the deed."

He looked at her as if she were insane. "You're kidding me, right?" he said finally. "You don't just GIVE treasure away, you know! That's totally--completely against a pirate's nature! His creed!"

"I'm not a pirate, though," she told him flatly. "I went for the adventure." And to make sure he didn't throw any more books around. And it wasn't stealing now, since she got the book. Then a little smirk pulled at her lips. "You know, I bought the book that the letter was in. Doesn't that mean I own the letter and the deed anyway?"

"Wait, wait! No, we got to the letter before we got the deed thing. And we were the ones digging up the deed, so, that's ours," Kaeden replied. What they were going to do with it, it didn't know. Maybe sell it off. That seemed the best way to do it.

Austin scowled, staring at the deed thoughtfully for a long moment before he shoved it into a random pocket, kicking his feet out in front of him and slumping back against the bench back to think. With a scowl, of course.

Rhye couldn't help but snicker at this pose. It was like he was pouting because she didn't want the deed badly or anything. Mentioning that she bought the book, though, would keep him from pressing the issue.

"We could sell it off. Someone's got to want a house to fix up. And it's a house. People like houses." He had gotten so accustomed to sleeping on the ship, he didn't think he'd be able to go back now, anyway. Besides, at the Tree, they had hammocks that rocked, anyway.

Kae then glanced at Rhye again, as if trying to figure out how to get that band once more, when he noticed something else: Rhye had other things on her. Bracelets and little rings that were shinny as well. They may not have been like the armband, but they might be worth something.

"We'll figure it out later," Austin said suddenly, grabbing Rhye's hand and looking her in the eyes. "You did good, helping us out," he told her earnestly, meaning every word of it.

That move just hand Rhye blinking. Then she gave him a sheepish smile, hearing the praise in his voice. "Um, thanks. Well, it was interesting, and fun. So, no problem! But I should be heading back home now," she told the boys, starting to pull her hand away.

"Yeah, we should, too," he admitted, keeping her eyes focused on his as he let go of her hand slowly, then shoved his hands into his pockets. "C'mon, Kaeden, let's get back to the ship. The Cap'n's probably wondering where we are."

Then he walked away, the ring her sister had made her for an early Easter present stuck in his pocket and slipping easily onto his little pinky. Once he was far enough away he even brought it out to admire it.

"She's so easy."

Pretty Fish
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
--------------------------
The Aquarium had kicked Polly out twice before Tock caught her crying, stormed in, and dumped a small pile of gold coins on the counter with a dark, promising expression. It was now accepted that Polly was free to visit the aquarium for the rest of her life, if she so wished.

Technically, although they tried not to mention this to Tock, he had built an entire wing for the more exotic fish with pure pocket change. Now everyone knew Polly, Austin, Kaeden, and the rest of the pirates by face, and if a new worker ever said anything about them waltzing in and out as they pleased, they were quickly silenced.

That was why Polly was sitting on one of the padded benches in the biggest aquarium room, her chin resting on her knees, her arms hugging her legs to her chest. She was happy there.

"Polly!" Rory said, seeing the red-head and the unmistakable feathered tail. Aurora had been taking her baby sister to the aquarium. Lucky for her, that's where she found her old, childhood friend. She hadn't seen the girl since she was running away.

Rory pushed the stroller towards the girl. "Man, I haven't seen you in a long time. How are you? How are things?" she asked.

Rayne was hugging an octopus that they had gotten in the gift shop as she was pushed towards another new person. Orange-red eyes looked at this girl and her two tails were curled up around her.

Polly glanced up, then down at the baby, her mind racing as she tried to figure out--"So Chris and you had a baby?" she finally asked, since it was the most obvious (to her) situation. "She doesn't look like either of you, though. So you got a new boyfriend?"

Chloe had gotten her watching soap operas, and the effects were horrendous.

"What? No!" Rory started to laugh. "No, this is my baby sister. Her name's Rayne," said the teen, taking a seat with Polly. The stroller faced them now. "Rayne, this is Polly, another friend of mine."

"Ello," Rayne said, cuddling her toy more. Wow this girl has some bright hair! And the beads... she liked the beads.

Polly grinned at her, that old, brilliant grin that lit up the room. "Do you like fishies, Rayne?" she asked. "I think they're great. They remind me of home." She glanced at the glass walls, watching as a big blue one swam past with a slightly longing expression.

"Fishies! I likes fishies!" Rayne said, leaning in her stroller to see them more.

Rory had to make sure the thing didn't tip over. "This is her first time here," she said. Poor Polly was still home sick, huh? Now that sucked.

"Really?" Polly asked. "This is my favorite room in the entire building! My Dad paid for it, but they can't really post that on a sign or anything, cuz it was pirate treasure that did it."

She pointed at an angel fish. "That one's named after me, you know!" The irony of that statement must have gone over her head, though, because she sounded quite proud of the fact.

Rory caught it, though and grinned. "Seriously? Awesome! And your dad paid for the place? Does that mean you get in here for free? Man I wish we could," Rory said, shaking her head.

Rayne wiggled out of her stroller, then walked up to the glass. "Ooohhh, fish has your name? Cool!" the little fox girl said, beaming back at Polly. The octo was still in her hands.

"Yep, her name's Polly, too," Polly said, nodding. "They haven't named a fish after Kaeden yet, but there's an octopus named after Austin! It's cuz he keeps getting into stuff he shouldn't."

"Octopus?" Rayne questioned, looking at her toy again. Then held it up to Polly. "Octopus! Austin!" She had no clue who Austin was, but that didn't seem to bother in her in the slightest.

Rory snickered as her baby sister looked back at the fish. "Yeah, that fits him. Do Jake, Tock and Chole have fish named after them?" she asked, looked back at the water.

"They don't got an alligator," she said a bit sadly. "So there's nothin' named after Tock. But Chloe picked a puffer fish! She thought it was cute." She looked at Rayne, grinning. "Chloe's a hippo. She's very proud of it, too."

"Chloe can cook, too! I remember her making desserts back when you guys were at the house," Rory said, thinking back to when they call came over for a visit... and to see Pollys new dad.

"Maybe Kaeden should be a clown fish," Rory added, tilting her head in thought.

Polly laughed. "I would SO do that, but he swore if I ever named a fish after him without his learning he'd tell everyone where I kept my candy stash," she said, shrugging. "But I'll tell him you said so!"

She looked at the fish again. "We're going back to the island for the weekend in a few hours, so it's kind of silly to come here."

"Na, not really," Rory replied. "You get to see the fish without having to hold your breath. And it's nice here, anyway." Then she looked back down at her friend, concern in her green eyes. "You doing okay, though?"

"Rory, my Dad bought me an aquarium," Polly said, grinning at the other girl. "Well, as good as. Just because he caught me crying cuz they kicked me out. I'm good. And we go back to the island on the weekends, so I've got both worlds."

"Oye! Polly!" Austin said as he came into the room. "I had an idea."

"Oh great."

"This one's got promise!" Kaeden replied, talking with Austin, hands in his pockets though he was grinning. He liked this place and was glad they could come in whenever.

"Good," Rory replied before turning her attention to the other two. "Hey guys!" she called out to them.

Rayne looked over now, distracted from the fish.

"But you got to come with me," Austin said, only briefly waving at Rory before he grabbed his cousin's hand and dragged her out. "I gotta show you somethin'. Somethin' important."

Well, somewhat important. To be honest he had been walking and walking around the town trying to figure out what in the hell he was going to do with the deed, and then he had seen it!

"Hey Ror," Kaeden replied, turning to follow the other two. "Don't worry," he told Polly. She should probably worry, if he said something like that to her.

Rory looked at Rayne, then picked her up. "We've got a detour, squirt, let's go. We can come back," she promised, setting the baby in the stroller, then following them.

"We had a lil... diversion this morning," Austin told his cousin, still tugging her by the hand as they left the aquarium and went down the street. "It led to us being the owners of an old, creepy house, see? But it's not on the water, and who wants something not on the water?"

"Not me," Polly said, earning a knowing nod.

"So we went around the town and came to--" he pulled to a halt in front of a crowded, dingy looking orphanage. "This."

"An orphanage," Kaeden chimed in, looking at the place.

"So, you've got an old house, and something to do with an orphanage?" Rory asked, not clueing. So she was just a little lost. Rayne didn't have a clue, she just held on to her octopus, watching what the others were going to do.

He patted his pockets, searching and eventually finding the deed. "I can't do it," he said, honestly, holding it out to Polly. "An' I won't let Kaeden do it, either, cuz it goes against my every belief to give somethin' away, but--"

She was staring at the kids, knowing she had seen that same, homeless look on her own face before, remembering the tears she had cried as she was left behind. "Polly?" Austin asked.

"Hey," Kaeden told her, on the other side of her. "You're gonna like this, so, ya know, don't go sobby on us, 'kay? Just let him finish." Then he looked to Austin to finish up the tale.

"I get it already," Polly snapped. "And I ain't sobby," she added, yanking the deed away from Austin. "I'm the captain," she added arrogantly as she strode through the gate and into the building to give their booty away.

Kaeden snorted at this, shaking his head. Then he looked back at Rory who'd followed them. Then at the baby. What's with people and babies, lately? "Who's that?" he asked.

"My little sister, Rayne. Rayne, these are Kaeden and Austin," she said, pointing them out.

Rayne just started at Austin. Then pointed at him: "Octopus!"

"Oct--oct--OCTOPUS?!" Austin demanded, shocked enough to lose his usual lazy expression.

"Octopus!" Rayne repeated, holding up her toy octo.

Kaeden chocked, then started to laugh at Austin's expression. He did't have a fish to be teased with, after all!

"We were at the aquarium," Rory explained. "And Kaeden? The clown fish is you."

That made the other boy stop laughing. "Hey now!"

"It fits!" Austin said, distracted from his new nickname. Then Polly walked out of the building, her hands shoved into her pockets, a slight grin on her lips.

"Done," she said. "C'mon, guys, we've still got time to watch the fish before we leave for the island."

The Scent of Magic
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
-------------------
"Why are we here again?" Kaeden asked, hands in his pockets as he looked down the sidewalk. The weather here was finally warm again, no longer winter. He had decided he didn't really like winter. Everyone was inside more often than not, which created problems. At least they could go to the island during the weekend!

"Polly wanted to take a walk," Austin said, his hands in his pockets, his walk lazy and unconcerned. He had gotten to the point where he followed Polly when there was nothing else to do. She tended to bring up opportunities as well as entertainment just by being Polly.

"I'm looking for the witch," Polly called over her shoulder to them. "And it smells like peppermint... and..." She didn't know that it was magic she was smelling, but she had smelled it before. Unconsciously she linked it to the witch.

"The witch?? The one that cursed you? Why?" Kaeden asked, looking at the redhead now. Where Austin and Polly went, he was sure to follow. Half because of the entertainment, half because he knew something would happen around them. It was a fact of life, really.

"She's gonna take this stupid curse off of me," Polly snarled, then abruptly stopped and turned down an ally. "This way."

Austin looked at the ally, then back down the street where they came from, knowing that there was more to steal behind them than there ever would be in front. He was about to protest when Polly disappeared in front of his very eyes.

"Woah..." Kaeden said, seeing Polly vanish. "Hey, think it's like the hidden door that takes us to the island?" he asked, already going for the ally. He wasn't good at stealing things, so he wasn't looking for such opportunities.

Besides, that funny feeling that he got now and again had been leaving him alone. He had no clue how to explain what it was, so he didn't even think on it.

He walked into the ally as well, not even waiting on Austin.

When Austin still hesitated, Polly's hand shot out of the nothingness, grabbed him by the shirt, and hauled him inside.

They were standing in the street in front of a gift shop. There was a sign over the door that hung on a pole jutting out of the building. It swayed slightly in the wind and proclaimed the place to be "Lucky Charm, INC."

"Huh," Kae said looking at the store. "It's a hidden gift shop? Why would someone want to hide a shop?" he asked curiously. Then he looked to Polly. "Your witch is in here? I thought she roamed in allies."

Polly looked at the place a bit blankly, confused as well. "I dunno," she finally admitted. "It don't look like she'd be here. It's too fancy. But I coulda sworn--"

"You're not a dog," Austin said. "Your nose wasn't made to smell out old ladies, savvy?"

"I don't get the smell thing either," Kaeden said, still looking at the shop. "But... let's check it out. I mean, it's a hidden shop. It's gotta be hidden for a reason. Let's find out, there might be something in there, anyway," he said, starting for the door. Curiosity was eating him alive at the moment.

"But it smells--" Polly insisted, not knowing why her senses seemed to have gotten more powerful, but knowing they had. "It's like... crisp, sharp air, with a hint of a--a shock to it. It's like--"

"Money," Austin said, patting her on the head. "It smells like money. And I think it's about time to get us some."

"Polly? Explaining what it smells like to us isn't gonna help. Not if we can't smell it. And you're not a dog, either, so don't worry about it," Kaeden said, heading for the door of the shop and starting to open it.

They could at least see what was in here, after all! Maybe Austin would find another map.

Austin looked around, his eyes narrowing on the girly accessories and toys that filled the room. Then he noticed the jewelry. Casually he headed for that, leaving the others to do what they wanted.

The store seemed empty, but there was always the chance there were camcorders, so Polly decided to take a more roundabout way, glancing around and stopping at the toys.

Then she stopped, her heart thudding hard against her chest as a toy gator in a pirate outfit caught her eye.

Kaeden didn't bother to follow Austin, knowing that too many kids in the same area would get attention. Instead, he went down another isle. This place did look like girls designed it.

He stopped though, seeing Polly frozen in place. "What's up?" he asked lightly, heading over. Maybe she saw something useful, after all.

"Nothing," she said a bit too sharply, turning away from the toy. The smell of magic was so thick that she had to fight the urge to sneeze. "Just some stupid toys."

She moved on, not even daring to look back at the toy in question. Idly she stopped by the candy section, wondering why none of the brands looked familiar.

"Riighht," Kaeden replied, but he didn't feel like pressing the matter. He started to turn, only to stop, spotting the gator toy in the pirate suit. He smirked, reaching out and picking it up. It looked like Tock. Sortta.

"Put it down, Kaeden," Polly said, not looking back at him. "It's too big to steal and isn't shiny."

She slipped a pack of gum in her pocket, then casually walked on, her movements too smooth for even the camcorders to catch.

"Who said I would? I just thought it looked like Tock, that's all," Kaeden said, shaking his head before he put it down. He had wanted to look for a hippo one, but that would be silly.

It was curious, though. This shop was small, so, why wasn't there someone at the counter, keeping an eye on things? He wandered back through, going for where Austin was again.

Austin twirled the round jewelry holder, eyeing the pieces behind the plastic wall with a casual glance. "I," he said finally, "don't think any of this is real gold."

"So then, it's not worth it, huh?" Kaeden asked, coming up behind him. Then he decided to point something out: "I don't see any one working here. There's no one saying anything about us being here."

"Yeah," Austin said. "And I don't see any cams, either," he added, looking around. "Grab whatever's light and looks expensive and let's get out of here."

Kaeden looked to Polly to see if she agreed with this. Something didn't set right, however, in doing this. It was... too easy. But he went to see what he could get.

Polly grabbed a few things and headed out the door, not liking the smell of the place, not liking how Gator Boy just suddenly appeared in front of her, either.

"You shouldn't," a ragged looking blonde man said, stepping in front of her and blocking her escape.

She jerked, looking up at him in surprise.

Yep, he knew something was wrong. "Shouldn't what?" he asked however, playing the innocent. He wasn't too good at it.

"Oh, you know what I'm talking about," he said. "You're pirates, after all. Especially you," he added with a glance at Austin. "And you're right, none if it is real gold." He stepped into the building and Polly was forced to take a step back, looking up at him with mounting rage.

"I have something for each of you," he said. "But you haven't earned it yet."

Kaeden gave him an odd look. "You... have something for us?" he asked, suspicious now. He didn't like this guy who, without being in the room, knew what they were up too.

And Polly looked like she wanted to fry him right now. Boy he hoped not.

"That's right. But you can't have it after trying to loot my store, I'm afraid," he said. Then he snapped his fingers.

They were standing in the street they had started out in. Their pockets and hands were empty.

"... Damn," Kaeden muttered, sticking his hands into his now empty pockets and pulling them inside out. There was no hope of anything being left. "You know, I think I've decided that I don't like magic. In any shape or form."

"That makes three of us," Austin said, patting Polly's head, then jerking his hand away to blow on it.

They couldn't find it. For the first time since they had realized the shop was there, they couldn't find it no matter how hard they searched. In irritation Polly had let Orli go home and headed back for the ship with her cousin.

It was a long trip back, because Polly insisted on kicking every rock she saw on the way there. Austin was much more reserved. He shoved his hands into his pockets (well, two of them, the boy had a ton of pockets to choose from) and walked silently as he thought.

"I don't see how there's a connection," he said finally.

"There's a connection," she insisted. "They smell like the same bad magic!"

"Yeah, but there's a lot of magic around here," he said. "Practically everything is magical around here."

She went silent, kicking yet another rock as she refused to verbally agree with his statement. "Where's Kaeden?" she asked abruptly.

"He went out somewhere or other with Chloe," Austin said.

"Damn."

"What's it matter?"

"Maybe he's the reason we could find it!"

"Why in the Bermuda Triangle would he have something to do with us finding the shop?" Austin asked.

"He was with us when we found it."

"Yeah."

"And he wasn't with us when we didn't!"

He snorted and patted his pockets again, pulling out a flask of water and taking a drink. She stopped, looking at him, then reaching for it. "Where'd you get that?" she demanded as he held it out of her reach.

"Dunno," he lied, keeping it from her. "Found it."

"You did not," she said, standing on tiptoe to get it. She was too short. He was almost a foot taller than she was.

"If I said I found it, I found it," he told her, smirking slightly, his cheeks flushed a bit.

"You stole it off of a homeless guy, didn't you!"

"Might have," he said, taking another drink.

"It doesn't smell like water," she said, sniffing his breath. "That's alcohol!"

"It's water!"

She snorted. "You're going to be soooo busted when Jake finds out," she told him. "They're gonna beat you bad."

"I won't feel a thing," he said, capping the flask and slipping it into its pocket. He actually had thought it was water, funnily enough. It was just golden brown water. That tasted funny.

"That old guy smelled like death warmed over," Polly said. "Now you just smell like death. Maybe we should warm you up, huh?"

"No!" he said. "My gloves still have burn holes from the last time you did that!"

"Then gimme the flask," she said, holding out a hand. He hesitated, then reluctantly handed it over. "Kids can't have this," she told him.

He muttered something that sounded suspiciously like he was mocking her. She gave him a dirty look and slipped the flask into her ratty bag of treasures. She never even noticed the sparrow etched on the side of it.

Far behind them, in the shadows of an alley, a homeless old man opened his eyes. A tiny smirk pulled at his lips as he pulled out a piece of paper. There was a single black dot on the paper.

The first step to getting the boy's soul had been taken.

The Map
Players: Trinityblue, Ice Queen
--------------------
There was a gigantic map that hung on a wall in the public library. It was around all the of books on the world, atlases and things like that. It wasn't too popular of a place to be, unless you had a book report on the world.

At the moment, there was a boy with a skunk tail, staring up at the map. He stood on a foot stool that allowed you to get up and personal with the map. The map was now decorated with many, many sticky notes.

"You sure you wanna go?" Austin asked his cousin. "It sounds lame."

"I'm not sure I wanna go," Polly said. "But she might come in handy later if I keep playing nice." She scowled as they walked past the doorway of the library, then stopped, backing up. "Hey, I found Kaeden!"

"What? Seriously? He's been missing all day!" Austin said. Then he looked up. "What in the hell is he doing in a library?" he asked as Polly dragged him inside.

One thing was for certain: Kaeden wasn't doing a book report. He blinked, looking around as if trying to figure out where he was... and why the hell he was even here. Then he saw the two. "Oh, hey, what's up?" he asked, trying to fake that he knew why he was here.

He also noted the stickies on the map.

"What's up?" Polly asked. "You're the one that's in the library," she said, earning several dirty looks from the librarians.

Austin, on the other hand, was leaning close to read the sticky notes. He didn't even seem to notice the other two.

"Yeah, but what brings you by?" Kaeden asked her, letting Austin look and think Austin like thoughts. He didn't even try to guess at what the other boy thought. "I.. I came to look at the map," he so lied.

"She wanted to drag us to a party," Austin said, still not looking up from the notes. "But I think we have a treasure map here."

Polly jerked. "Seriously??" she asked, getting yet more dirty looks and a few "hush!" from people around them.

"Austin..." Kaeden started, then lowered his voice greatly. "Don't tell me you wanna take this map now??" he asked and looked back up at the map. At least no one asked about the notes! He had no idea how they got there.

Then he looked back at Polly. "Also, I am not going to any parties," he added.

"Course not," she said. "We've got a massive sized treasure map. But where'd it come from?" she asked, digging through her pockets and pulling out the note from Orli. She looked at it for a moment and it started to crinkle, turning black before it burst into flames.

"Young lady!" the librarian said, shocked. "You cannot light things in a public library! Someone get the extinguisher!"

The panic that this caused gave Austin the time he needed to cut the massively huge map down and roll it up. "Gimme a hand, Kaeden," he said as Polly let the flaming piece of paper hit the ground.

Kaeden didn't even hesitate as he started to help removing the map, being careful of the stickies. Well! At least Polly fire thing came in handy for things other than camp fires! Again the skunk boy assumed the role of follower, but he wasn't about to take command with this thing. Hell, at least he kinda sorta found the map!

"Young men, stop right this--" The librarian jerked as a rack of magazines lit up, her eyes wide with shock as she raced to save them, and Polly and the boys sauntered out of the library, their stolen map in hand.

"See? I told you the invite might be entertaining," Polly bragged.

Capture the Pirate
Players: Ice, TB
-------------------
Austin whistled under his breath as he walked through the park, tossing the wallet he had stolen into the air and catching it again. It had been a good day for pick pocketing. Now he could buy himself something!

But he wasn't going to get too far. Rhye was in the park with Kash when she saw the little thief and gave him a glare. One hand reached out, taking ahold on her twin's arm. "Kash! It's -him-! That little brat who took your ring from me!" she whispered so as her voice wouldn't carry to him.

She still hadn't forgiven Austin for his betrayal.

"Reeeeally," Kash said, eyeing the boy thoughtfully. "So how should we get it back?" she asked her sister, since she was pulling a blank. "He's a kid, sure, but he looks oddly tough." She frowned at that, wondering if two teenage girls were enough to scare him.

Rhye didn't have much doubt, herself, but that would be bulling and they weren't bullies. She frowned a bit, tail twitching. "Well... maybe we could lure it out of him. How do you lure something away from a pirate?"

"With the promise of something better!" Kash said, cheering up. Then she stopped, thinking. "So what should we offer?"

"I do not want to trade anything for something he -stole-" Rhye told her twin, hands going to her hips. "That's like... paying him and rewarding him for it!"

"We're not going to give it to him! We're going to use it as bait, remember?" Kash said, her eyes on the pirate kid. "I'm kind of surprised he's still a kid, though. I thought he was the same age as us."

"Oh, well, good. You're probably going to be better at that then me," Rhye admitted, looking at the boy again. "I thought he was actually a little older.... maybe he's just a slow grower."

"Huh... but that might be something we can use against him, too," she said thoughtfully, her tail swishing back and forth twice. "C'mon, let's go talk to him."

Austin was completely unaware he was being followed. He was too busy dealing with the fact that all the wallet he had stolen came with was a license and a twenty. Dammit.

"Oohhh, good point," Rhye said and then fell silent as she watched Austin. Really, he could have been a fun friend, but then he had to go and ruin it by stealing the ring her sister had made her. Well, she was going to get that ring back!

He glanced up when they got to him, blinking as Kash draped an arm over his shoulder. "Hi," she said with a grin. "We haven't met yet, I don't think. But you've met my sister!"

"Ah, well, I--" he said, glancing up at Rhye quickly. "You grew well."

A little evilness went off in Rhye's mind as she leaned over slightly to smile at him. "Thank you. This is my sister, obviously, Kash. Kash, this is Austin," she said. Never mind the pirates had shown up in their store, Austin hadn't really met Kash, nor Kash him.

Idiot that he was, he gave them both a flourishing bow while pocketing his stolen wallet again. "It is a pleasure to meet you," he said to Kash.

"Really," Kash said. "So pleasurable that you'd give my sister back her ring?"

He blinked, honestly having forgotten that.

"I haven't forgotten about that, you know," Rhye added from his other side, giving his hair a light, almost playful tug. She didn't want him pissed off and not fall for this, after all.

"I don't ah... happen ta have it on me just at tha moment," Austin said hesitantly, looking from one twin to the other. Damn they were cute. "But if you'd give me an hour I'll just go back ta tha ship and--"

"We can go with you if you want!" Kash said.

"Yeah! I want to see the ship. I've never seen a real pirate's ship before," Rhye said. It was true that she hadn't and that she wanted to see it. Nevermind it was more so she could get her ring back.

"Ah, well ya see, my da--no! My uncle! He's a bit scary ta tha ladies and--"

"We don't mind scary, do we Rhye?" Kash asked her twin evilly. "Come on, Austin, we're your friends, remember?"

"No?"

"Silly, who joined you on that house treasure hunt? I did try to help you. Besides, I doubt your uncle could be -that- scary," Rhye said. "I still want to see the ship. Plleeaasee Austin?" she asked, giving him her sweetest, pleading look. It always worked with their dad.

He groaned, running a hand over his face but careful not to run his kohl. "Okay, fine, but only for a moment, got it?"

"Yay!" Kash said, hugging him. The faint flush he got was enough to make her smirk. Boys were a lot easier to deal with than she had thought.

Rhye also cheered, giving him her own, evil twin hug. The poor boy was now surrounded by the girls, even if it was just for a moment.

"Now, ah, which way was it again..." he said, digging out his compass. Kash glanced over his shoulder and stared as the compass started spinning wildly.

"I think it's broke," she said finally.

"No, no, you just haveta look at it right."

"It's broke," Rhye muttered, hand going to her hip. "I'd assume new the water since it is a ship." She had the worst feeling this was going to take a while.

"But there's lots of water around here--oh, there we go! A heading!" he declared, heading off to the right and leaving them to chase after him.

Rhye gave Kash a look and a small grown, silently asking what they had just gotten themselves into. Then she took her hand to follow.

"You're telling me," Kash said slowly as she followed the boy, "you can't even find your own home without a broken compass?"

"Directionally challenged," Austin said, as if that explained everything.

"Your compass is!"

"Very directionally challenged," Rhye echoed, looking at the compass again. There was just something weird about it, and she didn't know what that was. Other than it was broke.

"What is that thing?" The sight of Bastion twisting his way down her arm almost gave Kash a heart attack. She glanced out of the corner of her eye to see if Austin had noticed, but his attention was on the compass. "It's magic... or not," the snake went on. "I don't trust this punk, we should just curse him and get it over with."

"Veering starboard," Austin said, changing direction slightly.

"Or," Atreyu cut in on his own way down the Rhye's arm, making her give a little jump as well, "With a little luck, we will get where we're going, reguardless."

She gave him a little glare for picking up bad habits from Baston, then looking at Austin. "We're not yet on a ship..." she told him, answering how he told them how to turn.

Austin pulled to a stop in front of an ice cream shop. "Ah... I live here?"
