His smile didn't falter as he dropped to the ground again. It didn't falter as he reached out for and touched the first circle he had drawn in the fight. It didn't even falter when the wind hit him and one of the needles she'd let fly sliced open his arm. He winced, but the smirk remained on his face. Now, however, it meant two things. He wasn't just smiling because he'd discovered someone with true talent in the science he had devoted his life to, he was also smiling because he knew he'd won.
The originial circle, as complex as the trickiest of mazes, lit up just seconds after his hand had touched it. The energy required to do what he was about to do took time to accumulate. His figure almost disappeared behind the light, his entire body engulfed in the flash. And then it cleared. Anyone who'd been looking at it directly wouldn't be able to see very well for a few seconds, which was a shame because this fight would only last that much longer.
He remembered back to only 10 minutes ago, maybe, when she'd caused a small earthquake while drawing on the minerals in the ground. That one paled in comparison to the one that ripped the earth now. It was so strong it made it seem like the platform was going to fall apart more than it had already. The individual stones that made it up started shaking where they lay, appearing to rise out of the ground. No, wait, they were rising out of the ground. All along the platform between the professor and student, stones started uprooting themselves, rising into the air and forming what looked like a giant wave. It was the kind you would see in Hawaii. Fifteen, maybe seventeen feet high, rising up like the hand of a giant to come crashing down on the next brainless surfer to try and ride it. This wave was made of stone though; and it was moving in Shadow's direction, rising higher out of the ground and arching more and more until it cast a shadow over the young girl.
Mother Goose would be jealous. The stones rippled and tumbled and had a great fall, crashing down over the student. ((I MUST be tired, i just made a reference to Mother Goose and Humpty-Dumpty. 'Night all.))

((woa. ...I WANNA BATTLE NEXT! *sob* T~T))
Riyu seriously couldn't ignore this. She had been trying, but her eyes kept drifting to it. It was so cool. Almost as cool as her brother Shuran and Matt when they were both alive...now it was just Shuran. And it wasn't nearly as cool when he totally owned her. But a battle like this? This was cool. And awesome. And did she mention it was cool? Yes, she did. Very cool. But she knew, as the last move was made, that a student couldn't escape that. She sighed. She had been hoping to fight the professor, but it looked like after this he wouldn't take anyone else. so she sighed and opened a book, studying a high level alchemy circle, like the one the professor had made before. She could make this, but not very fast. She was going to say think it:they were so cool!
((Yup. If you count, she says the word cool 7 times. Seriously, it is, but she doesn't need to confirm it 7 TIMES.))

Sonja was trying to focus on the battle but there were so many temors in the air as well as the ground that her source of vision was completely useless. She clicked several times but she could make out nothing but jagged moving lines. This battle had esclated in level to the match she had finished a little while ago. "This an entirely different level." She muttered to herself. She pushed her sunglasses up the bridge of her nose and clicked towards the fight once more, her brain began to adjust to awkward vibrations bouncing back so she could make out was happening. She saw it like looking out a window drizzled with rain, distort and blurry outlines. Now able to see, Sonja realized she really had a long way to go in learning, with her optimistic nature kicking in she smiled. 'But to learn is why I'm here.' She thought to herself. She continued to admire the fight taking mental notes here and there as she tried to rearrange the distored vibes to a clearer picture in her mind.

'Frick a loony with a stick...' one of Tenma's favored lines ran through her head as the towering wave came towards her. This really sucked. This didn't just really suck, this sucked hard core. The lips that resembled a smile turned down into an evident frown. Her brow furrowed slightly as she tried to find a way out of this. The opposing element of earth was air. Maybe, just maybe she could use a air technique. Maybe. Not likely.
Tenma breathed in deeply as she began to scribble in the loose minerals. She finished quickly and began to draw in the surrounding air. She crouched down to make the impact minimal as the air created an orb like vortex around the girl. The air spun rapidly, angled upwards and away from her fellow students. Her hair whipped around violently as she concentrated. Thank the elements around that she had meditated before the battle. She prayed her shield was as inpenetrable as she intended.

((It's too late for me to write up a post, I just wanted to comment. Just for future reference Air would be the opposing element to Earth, and Water would oppose Fire. What you did is fine though...))

((Just a warning, I won't be on much (if at all) tomorrow because it's my prom and I'm staying the night at a friends house afterwards. If you all would like to continue the RP you're more than welcome to. I'm sorry Demetria, but to keep the RP moving we're going to have to end the fight here...very imaginative though.))
As he waited for the dust and debri to clear he straightened and dusted his clothing. When he stood tall again, after brushing off his pants, he could clearly see Shadow where she'd been standing before. Other than her hair, which was windblown and looked like some sentient creature on her head, she looked fine. He could tell the fight had worn her down though. If he was tired, she had to be. Then again, he had underestimated her several times before. She had fought valiantly, doing two things the other students he had faced couldn't: injuring and nearly capturing him. Hell, military alchemists hadn't been able to get that close to beating him. He was going to have to keep an eye on her.
Now, however, it wouldn't do to destroy more of the sparring platform he had created. Actually, there really wasn't all that much left. A few sections behing him were still intact, the rest was thoroughly demolished. Besides, he had only challenged his students to make a point, which he was sure he had gotten across: "You all have a lot to learn and I'm the best person to teach you..." That first lesson was the same in all of his classes. Some teachers wouldn't agree with that method, but it had worked for him since the beginning of his teaching career and he wasn't one for a lot of change.
He carefully approached his student, who, dishelved as she looked, still appeared willing to fight. The loose rocks under his feet threatened to unbalance him, but he gradually made it to her side to whisper the conclusion he'd made. He then left her side to speak to the whole class.
"This match is going to end here. I see no point in destroying more of the sparring grounds at the present moment. For those of you who are thinking I'm ending the fight to keep from losing, think what you will. Know, however, that this wasn't about winning or losing, it was a lesson to all of you. The first and most important lesson in combat, especially among alchemists. 'Know thine enemy.' I expect the majority of you to be able to explain every transmutation that occured during these three fights in a detailed paper that will be due at our next session. For those of you with disabilities that heed you from comprehending what happened here, I expect your best effort in explaining what you could pick up. Is this all understood?"
A few nodded, a few answered with a 'Yes, sir,' and a few more just stared blankly at him, already panicking at the thought of the paper that was due.
"You're all dismissed, I look forward to seeing you in a few days."
With that he started off toward his office, choosing to take the front entrance to the library this time, and therefore walking through the lawn. In the distance he saw the fountain sparkling like a miniature sun in the light and it reminded him of just how early in the day it was...

Tenma, unfortunately, had to accept the professor's reasoning. It was somewhat amusing to watch him walk while attempting not to fall on his face. She remain sitting on the ground as the man talked. A paper? That was really lame. Oh well, most of the moves were her own, so it wouldn't be diffcult to write about. As the man walked off Tenma stood, dusting herself off and smoothing down her hair. Now another thought had crept into her head. Had the professoor noticed her ankle wedged between two rick slabs? Tenma sure hadn't. She could see the crimson pooling the fabric of her pants as she jerked it out.
Tenma, now freed from her little bear trap, headed back to her dorm. She needed to get this bandaged up; especially with her medical conditions. As she entered the room she headed to the sink. Her leg was lifted so the blood now dripped into the sink, rather, poured. Her head shook in a disappointed fashion as she cleaned out the jagged cuts. She should have last much longer, made him give up. She should have not gotten stuck in the rock. If she had done that in a fight at home she would have been killed, and she was supposed to go back and lead after this.
The clean cloth wrapped restrictingly around the cuts; this would have caused tremendous amounts of pain for your everyday person, but she couldn't feel it. Tenma was muttering under her breath, and if you listened to what she said it would seem like she was having a conversation with a person. Now that the wounds were bandaged Tenma pulled out a needle. No, it wasn't for recreational drugs, but it was for medicinal drugs. The needle entered her calf as the medicine was soon pumped in.
Now that was taken care of, Tenma decided to head back to the training grounds, but this time Tenma brought a different, much heavier, bag with her. This bag, would cause your average muscle head to collapse under the weight, but Tenma had been carrying it for years. It was time to get in some 'warrior's training'.
The rising sun caused the temperature to rise, even though the wind still blew strong from Tenma's attack. It would calm down, eventually, but wind was an element of movement, is something happened it would cause a ripple affect throughout the body. Tieing her hair back Tenma opened up the bag. She slipped off her shoes and began slipping some sort of sleeves around her calves. After one sleeve was on each calf Tenma took out these oval rods and slipped them into pockets in the sleeves. These were fifty pound weights. The pain in her ankle escaladed as the weight hit it. Not a good sign.

Riyu blinked twice, then stood for a bit, watching the professor walk away. Then when the crowd was gone she slowly shuffled off too. It was early and she didn't really want to be awake, and sleeping seemed good. But due to all her training from Shuran, she knew that sleeping was no option compared to training. But it was early! She walked in a slow mummy style stumble, and walked straight into a tree. At first she thought it was a person. "Sorry, sorry, 'scuse me...Oh, wait. Yea, I meant to do that." She added just to make sure people knew that she wasn't tired! Nope! Not her! Riyu patted her shoulder bag. Inside it was a disassembled robot her older brother had made for her. It was for training, as since he was gone now she had no one to spar with, and she wasn't all that much of a people person. So she made her way to the training grounds instead. Someone was already there, putting on ankle weights. But whatever. Still, it could help to be a bit nice. "G'mornin'." And then Riyu stumbled on past her and started assembling her robot when she was out of the girls sparring/training reach and into the middle of her own. It was quite annoying, actually, seeing as she couldn't really see the pieces very well. But she finished it eventually. She blinked, turned the thing on, and instantly got force-palmed in the face. "Well. I'm awake now. And you just earned this-this-this-and this!" Each time she said 'This', she hit it in a critical area for a human. But then she realized that it was a robo-training device, and the critical areas didn't really matter. Then she got flung a good 6 feet before she caught herself on her feet. "Hey, it's just like Nii-san, only without the a*****e remarks." And she barreled it down by the 'shins'.

Sonja had left prmptly after the other students but instead of following most of them back to the dorms she took off down the path to the library. It was an odd and rare occurence to see a blind girl in a library, but not quite an amazing spectacle.
She felt her way around the book cases coming to the section of books on the construction of transmutation circles and afterwards grabbed a few books from the beginners section, it was never a bad time to brush up on fundamentals, or atleast that's what she thought. For being a library and this being a school, she had expected a lot more people to be in here studying but to her suprise it was eeriely quiet and not packed beyond capacity.
Taking comfort in the quiet she found and empty desk and set her stack literature down out of the way as she ran her fingers along the desks grain. Her fingers were so sensitive to touch that she could tell you everything anyone had ever written here before. How students placed a page on a wooden desktop and started to transfer their thoughts to the page, they never realized they were leaving them behind on the desk as well. She began to read the grooves on the desk, layers upon layers of overlapping letters and words, it became like a game to dechipher them all. She could learn what everyone knows from books, but the minds of people were known to only a few. She stumbled across several circles, equations so wrong that they would never work, several disturbing notes about stuff she'd rather not know, and a few creative ideas that she had never thought of before.

After some painful time, Riyu turned the robot upside down, turned it off, disassembled it, and put it back in her bag. She grabbed up her books and trudged off. After she noticed that her bag was still moving, she grabbed it off, threw it on the ground, and stomped the living crap out of it. She then proceeded to throw it back over her shoulder and continue on to the library. Once actually there, the place was silent. Absolutely silent. It kinda creeped her out, but then what were old libraries for, anyway? She sat down at the table next to the blind girl, flipped open her textbook and notebook, and began to work. Even with three textbooks out to compare, Riyu didn't get it. she had scribbled out equation after brain squeezing equation, and nothing. No hints. Nothing. She wished she was her younger sister, who, like Sonja, could read the table. Then again, her little sister was dead. Hm. At long last, Riyu cracked down and asked for help. "'Scuse me, do you know anything about the Quadrilateral Captivity Regulation Formula?" She was working on something her brother had set her up with. He said that it was made to trap people in different ways, but she couldn't figure out how to do it. And it was eff-ing annoying, too.

Tenma gave the girl a simple nod in response to her greeting. Next were two weighted sleeves on her forearms. Finally was a large weighted vest. In a matter of moments Tenma's weight had increased ten fold. Her breathing was labored and weighted. Having this much weight on was making it difficult enough to stand with, but to expand your chest for air was nearly impossible.
A long series of movements and combinations began as Tenma worked her form. Every now and then she would stop in a particularly painful position in order to get herself used to it. This continued as she watched the girl get thrown around by the robot.

Sonja kept her eyes towards the table top but moved her fingertips away to grab a pen and paper. "Quadrilateral Captivity Regulation Formula," she said thoughtfully as she racked her brain for the words. A few minutes passed and she finally shook her head. "Sorry, but I can't seem to recall learning anything of the sort." As she spoke the pen in her left hand was scribbling wildly away on the paper she had pulled out. "There are plenty of circles for captivity, so to speak, creating a tightly enduced space around an opponent or object, but depending on materials available and the amount of time you have, if you are restricted by a time limit. There are a multitude of combinations by taking the basic symbols and rerranging them until each one is equally distributed." Her hand finally stops scrawling along the page of the paper and she finally looks up from the desk. "I find this one to be quite effective for earth." she said sliding the paper over with a largely drawn circle with several massive equations written alongside each symbol as well as several underneath it. "Is that somewhat, what you meant?" she inquired.

Riyu bit her lip. "No, not really. Nothing I didn't already know. But thanks anyway." She copied down the circle and the equations in case it would help her later on. As she stared at the equations, she relayed Sonja's information in her head. She had said something that Riyu already knew, sure. But she had voiced it differently. Circles FOR captivity...not circles OF captivity, but circles FOR captivity... And then a little light went on in her head. Shuran always said that the wording is very important, that changing just one word could make the whole sentence mean a different thing. But what if he's been saying it incorrectly all along? Riyu began scribbling wildly before the idea left her. And the clockwork began to tick. Shuran was right, and so was she; it was important to say it right, and he hadn't been doing so. Therefore, the puzzle had misshaped pieces before. And a puzzle with the wrong pieces didn't fit. After a while, she closed the notebook and gathered up her textbooks. "Thanks. See ya." She left the library and headed back to the training field. This was a thing of hers. She would train until she didn't want to move. Then she would go and study until she felt she had accomplished something, and then she would go back to train some more. That was how she worked. Next time she headed to the library she would try to get some of that paper done. But for now, she had to try the Quadrilateral Captivity Regulation Formula. Riyu walked by Shadow again. "G'mornin'." Naturally she did exactly what she had done the previous time, because that way she knew the girl probably wouldn't blow up at her. And then she shuffled on past, just like she had already done. She didn't assemble the robot this time. Instead, she pulled out her chalk finger on the auto-mail and drew a large circle somewhat like Sonja's, but instead of small circles there were small eyes, or an oval was drawn over the circle. She got back and clapped her hands together. Please, please work.... And it did. Out of the center of the eyes, water spouted and made a dome around the outer circle. I don't even need a transmutation circle this time. She clapped again. The water riveted, then lay still as ice. She walked around and inspected it for weak points. Right on either side of the spouts was a spot as big as her finger that was open. She pulled her hand back and rested her chin between her thumb and index finger. "Hrm, that's not good. I wonder how I can fix that...?"
