While I understand the religious arguments against Israel as The Jewish State, they don't hold much water for me. Partially because I am unfamiliar with the teachings that ban the creation of a State, and partially because I am a creature of politics.
Israel is, to me, a sanctuary state. I don't much care about its religious status, so long as it is a location where the Jews of the world can retreat to when under threat of extermination in their home nations. It is a place where the oppressed can find respite, and for this reason I would lay down my life in defense of it.
Israel, the nation state, fully deserves to exist in my eyes. Israel as a religious state, well that's blurry to me. But, the religious state is nowhere near as important to me as the political nation state. I am a secular politician, and thus I do not link religion to state easily.
If, and this is a very big if, the UN were made stronger, I would support turning the entire Holy Land over to international control. What is important is a sanctuary, what is important is safety, not a name, not a map, not a flag. Unless that safety can be ensured after Israel's deconstruction, I'll continue to defend it.

Then I applaud you, but your opinion isn't the one help by most Zionists. As Jews, the Torah is what we live our life by, correct? So whether it's politically a religious issue or not, we still have to look to our faith for guidance. My faith has told me that nothing is worth violence and war making...no matter how wonderful it might be in theory. Of course I respect that that specific opinion is up for interpretation, but like I said, people who interpret it in the opposite way don't seem to value life.
However, that's not really a bad thing. If I die, at least I know I won't have to put up with this bullshit anymore.
