For all the complaints leveled against DoA (and I am not a defender by any means) the only complaints here are that they are strick, have a defined set of dolls, not values people! and enforce those codes, which boil down to ball jointed, not barbie. period.
Oh, and there is a difference between bible and yuppy, for the one making that remark. I suggest you look it up. They are not exclusive or inclusive terms.
I have been modded several times lately, by posts deleted, no reason given and frankly, I've bitched to Zagzagael off site. She has nothing to say about it. It's something internal; so frankly I return there for Marketplace and for checking the galleries. Conversations are out as a conversation with a teenager or 20 something is, quite frankly, boring!
The overflow to Gaia is no better. The only thing I'm seeing here are children making groundless complaints and, to all intents, saying it's their ball and nobody else can play.
If that makes you angry, then prove me wrong.

...Heheā„
Grandma seems to be making a lot of contradictions. Either that, or I'm misinterpreting a lot.
I think DOA's strict off-topic-dolls list is a bit ridiculous. There is a difference between Barbie and Dollfie, Kelly and Puki, Littlest Petshop and Pipos, Anime Action Figures and Dollfie Dream. It's clear what's Ball-Jointed and what's not, and the line should be drawn there. But with all this should-anthro-be-banned, your-doll-isn't-AZN-enough, etc., I think... It's a bit intimidating at first.
But it's their board, and we have to abide by it. It's completely up to them what they do with it. And if someone really objects to it, make a new and better board and see if you can avoid doing what the staff at DOA does that makes users so upset.

I really like DoA, but I only use it for certain things. I love being able to buy and sell dolls, clothing, wigs, etc. on the Marketplace, look at pictures of dolls before buying them, ask tons of questions and get answers, find out about new dolls and doll related things when they come out. Essentially, I use DoA to help me expand my hobby and find the kind of dolls and things for my dolls that I want, I'm not into the forum so much for the discussion or to make friends. I have gone to a couple meet ups which I have found out about through DoA, and have met some very cool people, but I don't get too involved in the community aspect. I will join in on the excitement in a Waiting Room thread if I'm waiting on a doll, because it's kindof fun, and post the occasional comment in a discussion topic, but the Debates don't usually interest me. I don't enjoy having hardcore debates over my hobby (and some of those people get nasty with each other!).
So I enjoy DoA, but for certain reasons. I don't have too many complaints, but I'm sure I would if I got more into the community aspect of it.

Almighty Lurker... I like DoA, as it is the only place I found that is active and where I can really be a part of.
I have been there for less then 4 months and I am at 400post, which never happened anywhere else.... even here, I cannot seem to talk to anyone a lot, there is just so many people and places to go that every I go there is no one to talk to....

I'm a bit irritated with them. I just joined and I haven't been able to access ANYTHING. I keep getting messages that tell me I'm not allowed. The only reason I'm there is to catch some intell on how to faceup my dollfies. Someone linked me to the thread and I've not been able to access it a week after I joined.

Dude, did you even read any of the posts on here? I don't think you understood Prince Saru. And, yeah, I'd say the place was ran by yuppies, to the definition, especially in the vulgar sense. I expect when I'm no longer a "twenty-something" I'll be doing something meaningful with my life like raising a family and pursuing a career. If you don't want to talk to teens and twenty year olds, then go to a site that is targeted to folks your age. That off my chest: Back on subject: I've just got a message from a member of DoA. She said my Neo didn't count as a true Dollfie and I should take him off my Dolls-Owned list. I wrote her back and told her to eat a d!ck. Immature, yes. Self-satisfying, indeed 3nodding

Yeesh. Girl, that's not the right way to go about something with a MOD. :/
But yeah, more beef about the whole off-topic-dolls thing. It's made by Volks, is Asian, and has ball-joints, so how the ******** is it off-topic?

Oh wellz. But yeah, I read whatever I had access to (which was basically only the rules threads/stickies) and I didn't see anything about "no Volks Neos". I don't think it was a mod who said that. There wasn't a tag under her name, EvilDollfie or something like that. I'm not gonna fret it. Can't get much help there if I can't access any of the threads.

From what I've seen, people either fall in one of two catagories:
Truly immature and elitist. A lot of people who don't like DoA have problems following rules and using search, etc. and being yelled at makes them hate DoA. The same with the dollfie vs. super dollfie thing. Yes, dollfies aren't on topic, yes, they're not ABJD, and yes, people at meets don't want you taking over their meet with dollfies. Aside from that I've never been to a meet where someone was *turned away* for not having certain dolls or a doll at all, and I've been in this hobby for quite a while.
But yes, there are elitists. A lot of people will make fun of your doll, and yes, if they think it's ugly they'll probably tell you. You'll get over it. Try to learn from what they say if it's intended to be costructive or what have you. (i.e. put the eyes in good, figure out how to photograph your doll right.) And work on your forum manners. It happens.
Personally, I dislike that I can never get a brutal, constructive critique. If the piece/thing/etc is awful, there's no comments, or a "oh, that's unique/nice/cute/ smile "

I think DOA is doing just fine. There are other forums for the 1/6 Volks Dollfie and Obitsu and Pullip/Blythes and Goodreau. They do not fit the aesthetic of a ABJD (ie not made of resin and some of these aren't too customizable). The 1/6 dolls are LIKE Barbie (they are FASHION dolls just like BARBIE is a FASHION DOLL). They are NOT made of resin and also come with pre-rooted hair. There are some of their dolls that you can customize but they still don't fit in with the ABJD aesthetic.
I believe DOA is strict for a reason. They focus on the strict collecting of Asian Ball Joint Dolls and nothing off the side. Anthros are a case by case basis and have stricter rules, however I think they are pretty lenient. smile

Currently my biggest beef with DoA is that it sets people up for disappointment. Because of their "if you can't say anything nice" rule people get so used to having sunshine blown up their butt that they can't hack it if they get anything else. Not every place on the internet is like that, and really most places aren't.

DoA is what it is, for better or worse. As a user, you can either accept that, get hit with the ban-stick or flounce off in a huff. None of which will matter the least bit to the site, the mods, Her Horsefaced Holiness, or 99.9% of the other users.
Personally, I only visit the place about once a week these days, mostly to browse the Marketplace or to laugh at their hissy-fits of the moment. Otherwise, the site is useless to me.

Meh, DoA is OK. It's the largest doll forum out there and it has it's uses, but it's not the best in my opinion.

I dont mind doa i think its good! like for buying and stuff. Also every forum has rules. Doa has a version where you can say what you want and most of the topics are linked from doa. its called den of demons. Seriously though people who are saying like den of angels is bad because you have to say nice things or what not. If you post a picture on den of demons and they think your doll is ugley Everyone is going say crap about it and you will wish you stuck to doa ^^ Also they have topics of den of demons where if you say something stupid on general discussions they will also have something to say! its a really free to say whatever you want forum. Just be abit mindful because everyone else will give you their opinion in good and bad ways.
