Heh, here in Australia they still are! Our main conservative party is called the Liberal Party. That's because economic liberalism = free markets, free enterprise etc. basically right-wing fiscal positions. Classical liberalism is nothing like the modern quasi-socialist crap that passes for liberalism (when their truly is nothing liberal about it - it's quite statist).
Just an example of why I call them leftists rather than liberals.
