Lili glanced at the car in front of her. She had been following the boy an dgirl, but she was slightly bored now. She had lost interest in the girl, bit the boy had intrigued her from the begining. She sighed, sitting on the hood of the car, then started humming the song that was playing on the car radio moments before.
When the girl returned, Lili automatically jumped off the car, anticipating the car to start. She really wanted to know what the guy was doing. Odd people always seemed to draw her in, and to Lili, Sky was odd.

(Woot, made another character)

Sky blinked in confusion a bit as he was passed the plastic bag. Once, Sophia turned away, he took the clothes from the plastic, though it took him a while. He first removed the jacket from off his shoulders and put a black short- sleeved t-shirt on himself. Then he stood up in the car and leaned forward to put the boxers and jeans on. After zipping up, he sat down and looked over at Sophia that was still turned around. "Thank you again for your kindness, Sophia", his words were sharp and soft as it blew through the air like a harp's melody.

Kyle plopped onto his satin blue bed from a hard day's work. Grabbing his blue pillow infront of him that matched the light blue sheets under the blue comforter, he put his head on it with his arms hugging it. He had just come from doing a long heart surgery on Mr. Colenfit that took his 24 hours and 36 minutes of sleep from him. It was morning at this time and besides hunger due to his repitition of stomach growls, he was tired of course. He just wanted to regain his hours back. He eyes continued to blink as he gazed around the room that let sunshine in through the blue curtains that blew slightly from the open window. All wood and paintings, along with antiques were about that room, a furnished white marbled floor was covered by a blue carpet part way, following towards the wooden door of the room. Slowly, he drifted off into a deep sleep.

The woman turned to look at him, and a small smile slipped into her face. He may have been weird, but he seemed like a sweet guy all in all; a little dopey, but his heart was definitely in the right place. Giving him a one-shouldered shrug, she climbed back behind the wheel and buckled in.

"Don't sweat it. We all need a little help sometimes."

Pausing with her key half-way to the ignition, Sophia tilted her green eyes up at him with a slight frown pulling her brows together. Then she gave a tiny shake of her head, and looked suddenly apologetic.

"You know, I just realize that I never even asked you your name..."

Laughing quietly, she gunned the engine to life and pulled out from the curb.

"I mean, I understand if you don't want to tell me your real name. We've all got a past that we want to forget, and I wont try to pry into yours. I just need to know what I should call you."

Akira shook her head trying to think of something, "i'm not sure" she replyed and looked at him with an unsure smile.

Edward raised an eyebrow.

"How can you not know how you got here. You were on the lawn, randomly, and.....naked"
He stared out the window, the rain pounding on the glass.

"I am called Sky", Sky replied as his gaze went upon her.

"Sky, huh? Alright then."

She flashed a lopsided grin, then started the truck. Tuning to the oldies station as they drove, Sophie hummed her way through four songs before she finally pulled into the small, square lot of a run-down looking apartment complex. She cut of the engine as the Beach Boy's were crooning about Barbara-Anne, pulling up the e-brake before she swung out of the cab. Tugging her jacket back on, she reached into the truck bed to haul out the grocery bags and hand one to Sky.

"Here, hold this for me will you?"

Adjusting the paper sack so that it sat on her hip, she jingled her keys in her free hand as she lead the way to the building in the back. The apartment was upstairs, the one who's door looked like it hadn't had a fresh coat of pain in the last few centuries. Sophia unlocked the door and went inside, leading the way down a short, narrow hallway that widened into a medium-sized living room. The open kitchen area was off to the left, adjacent to the living room, and she moved to dump the groceries on the counter with her keys.

The living room held only four things: a worn-looking couch, a ratty recliner in front of a black-and-white tv, and a frail-looking old man. He was in the recliner, wearing slippers, high-waisted slacks, a button-up shirt and a cardigan, all in varying tones of brown. The fringes of hair left on his head were pure white, and there was a ruddy complexion to his aged and wrinkled skin. Dark little eyes peered at the television from behind spectacles, and didn't even look up as Sophia cross over to kiss the top of his head.

"Sorry I'm late, Papa. I brought a coworker home for dinner. He'll be staying here while his apartment gets fumigated."

The old man waved a hand impatiently, and lapsed into a fit of coughing; neither action pulled his eyes or attention from the television, where two people on some sort of game show were screaming in Russian. Sophia straightened with a sigh, but carefully kept the sadness from her face as she moved briskly to the kitchen. She tossed her jacket over a chair at the tiny kitchen table, then began to unpack groceries. Her words to Sky were kept quiet, so that they wouldn't disturb her grandfather; faint color stained her cheeks as she looked around at the apartment, and she seemed to feel awkward.

"We're ah...we don't usually have company. Sorry the place is so..."

Unable to think of a word that sounded better than 'shabby', she shook her head and went to put things into the refrigerator. Perhaps bringing him here hadn't been the best idea. Sophia sighed as she closed the fridge's door.

"We're having chicken soup for dinner. That alright by you? You're not a vegetarian or anything?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 26, 2008 11:28 pm

((That's a good question. confused xd Are angels vegetarians?))

"The place you live in is okay. It is better than what I have seen." Sky replied as he studied the room. His blue eyes soon fell upon Sophie's granfather. Sky knew him quiet well from the description Death gave him. He knew exactly how this man was going to die yet, could not say a word nor shall. Sky's attention had been drawn by Sophia's question. He replied with, "Anything you prepare is good enough for me." and that was all. He was facinated with the old man. He knew that he was like this but to see him person, he had to stare. The time for this old man was soon coming.

(( xd Who knows? Maybe they only eat Angel's Food cake! wink ))
((Also, just as an FYI, he's her grandfather, not her father. 3nodding No big deal, just to clarify! biggrin ))

"He's not contagious."

The words were spoken so softly that he might wonder if he'd actually heard her say them. Her hands were occupied, meticulously chopping vegetables with the speed and skill of a professional chef. She didn't look up, only spoke quietly under the babbled noise of the television, words punctuated by the crunch of the carrots under the knife. It seemed she'd confused his interest for concern for his own health.

"Mesothelioma, they call it. Cancer in his lungs. You get it from breathing in asbestos; he used to be in demolitions for the State. Tearing down buildings built in the sixties, when they still used asbestos in the walls."

The celery came next, then the potatoes. Her hands never stopped their methodical rhythm, but her eyes seemed to stare through what she was doing into some place far distant. Somewhere dark and consuming.

"The doctors can't help him. And the chemo-therapy just made him ill. He...decided it was a waste of effort and money."

A small lift of her shoulder indicated a shrug. She wouldn't go into detail about the horror of that time, nor the immense burden of the financial hole she'd dug herself into to pay for her uninsured grandfather's treatment. Putting herself in debt was something she'd done without hesitation, and complaining wouldn't make it go away. Sophia's gaze watched her grandfather for a moment as he lapsed into another coughing fit, unaware of the apprehension and devastation that lingered behind her eyes, her unspoken words louder than the old mans coughing: he was just waiting to die.

Sophia's chest felt tight, like someone had dropped a granite slab on her and crushed her lungs to nothing. The ache of grief in the pit of her stomach was dull only in comparison to the sharp pain in her heart. As his coughing fit relapsed, she drew in a deep breath and turned to her guest, putting her hands in her pockets to keep him from seeing how they trembled.

"Do me a favor and chop that parsley there. I'll ah, be right back."

Keeping her tone light, she turned past him to walk towards the back hall, making her way to her room. Closing the door behind her, she hurried to her dresser to pull out the flask tucked in the back of the top drawer. Hands shaking violently now, she struggled against tears as she fought the top off, and took a long pull. The alcohol seared her throat, slowly burning away the feeling in her chest till she could draw breath again. The woman folded her arms on the dresser top, and let her head fall onto them, waiting till she felt steady again.

((Thanks for the FYI and lets see... time to make Sky odd. whee ))

"As you wish." Sky replied with a nod and walked over to the counter. The pile of parsely was to his left and the knife over to his right. Gripping the knife in his right hand, he lifted it towards his face where the flat side made him see his reflection. He looked at it oddly and thought to himself, "Is this item what the humans use for cutting. It is unnecesssary and morbid. He set the knife down back in its place then glanced in Sophie's direction to see that she was still attending her grandfather. He picked up one parsely by its stem and looked at it with his deep blue eyes. "Will you be so kind to seperate yourself for Sophie's purpose for you?" he cited in an unaudible tone yet the parsely began to react. A leaf on the parsely split into half and soon leaf by leaf did the same. The steam of the parsely began to unravil and soon thin delicate slices laid in his hand. He turned his gaze to the pile of parsely and whispered, "May you do the same?" And in that, all the parsely became slices of perfection to the human eye (nothing is perfect) in a neat pile. "Thank you." emitted from Sky's lips in a soft tone that was actually quite audible this time.

Lili, hovering behind Sky because of her boredom, laguhed as he commanded the parsly. When it actually split, she was taken by surprise. He could talk to plants? She rolled her eyes, sitting in the nearest seat, and wondering how she was going to find the psycho that killed her.

Many minutes passed by before his host made another appearance. When she did find her way back into the kitchen, her face was more relaxed, her eyes almost dreamy. Seeing Sky had taken care of the chore she gave him, Sophia smiled brightly and stroked a hand over his shoulder in a friendly fashion.

"Thanks. That's great."

She brushed past him to take up the chopped parsley and dump it into the large pot of boiling liquid she'd had simmering since that morning. She moved back and forth, adding veggies, seeming less concerned about keeping out of his personal space as she had been before. Indeed, she seemed much friendlier, less reserved in subtle ways. As the soup heated, she chattered along in a fashion that was at odds with her more impersonal attitude of earlier.

"I like soup. My mother taught me how to make this kind. She was a great cook, my mother. She used to get up early every morning to prep the kitchen of their restaurant...did I tell you my parents owned a restaurant in Russia? Well, they did. Owned and ran it all their lives, just like my mother's parents...it was theirs, before I mean. Before it was my parents'. Anyway, she loved it, right up until they died. Which is funny, since they died there. In the restaurant, that is. Blown up. Huge mess. Messy messy, bits of people and rubble all over..."

The wooden spoon in her hand clattered to the counter, her hand fisted around it as she frowned at the pot. She seemed to be forcing herself to breath slowly, carefully. Clamping her jaw shut, she went on making the meal, moving at a slower, deliberately measured pace. Her face had closed down again, and though her eyes still looked strangely misty, she seemed to have regained her usual composure.

"Feel free to go sit down. I'll be finished here in a moment."

Sky walked out into the living and just stood next to a wall. His eyes watched Sophia's hands as she cooked. Such talent in those hands. He stared deeply without blinking or shifting his weight from one leg to the other.

She could feel his eyes on her as she moved, and the intensity of his gaze made her shiver. She tried not to look at him as she worked; every time she did, her heart jolted in her chest. This man was making her nervous, and she had no idea why...and she felt somehow guilty, under his knowing look. To an ex-soldier, a SpecOps elite, it was unnerving to realize anything could make her jittery this way.

Chop. Toss. Chop. Toss. She took up the spoon and stirred needlessly, in a constant motion, just to have something to occupy her hands with. Almost a full half-hour went by that way, and her arm began to ache. Wasn't he tired of standing there, not moving? Sophia snuck a glance at him, froze as his dark eyes seemed to absorb hers. This time though, she stared back, unable to look away. Her breath came thick in her lungs, and she wondered at the sensation tingling her skin. What was it about him that was making her react this way? Unable to tear away, she gestured half-heartedly at the pot.

"Dinner's ready," she murmured.

Sky nodded slowly, breaking the curse of his eyes that had befallen on Sophia. "May I be of any help to you?" he asked in a kind tone. Though his words seemed to float in the air still and his gaze soon came upon the pot she gestured to.
