Celtic_vampiress69 Oooh I love that one! Right now Im working on some stuff by Eddie Van Halen... his finger tapping licks are just INSANE im learning you really got me by van halen, the main riff is pretty easy but during the solo there are some really peculiar picking harmonics.

yea, try learning Eddie's Beat solo's.
where he's just slamming away on the fretbvoard and pulling a rythem out of it somehow.
and yes indeed Yngwie's solo's are beasting, i stoped trying those untill i regain feeling in my hands.
makes me a little numb playing those.
theres a youtube vid on my myspace of eddie playing eruption where he uses the beat solo. its at like 3:30 min or somthing neer it, u will understand what i mean when u c it.

verry nice, cem gates is a particular favorite of mine.
try floods, or domination next,
AND something nice and easy to learn that is still quite kickass, is the Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth.
easy rythem, straight-forward solo.

i can play any cover someone asks me to, unless it's dragonforce cuz i can only play parts of most of those. Don't waste your time learning other bands songs though unless you need to play them for somthing, it's better just to master the instrument as best as you can and study it so you can take anything someone or somthing throws at you, belive me it's worth it,
PS: if you can't read music then your not a real musician, tabs don't count as reading music. And learn your scales, it's the only way you can master the neck...Truly.

well he's right, in a sence. i can play what i hear, i could probly read music if i got a review but its been a while.
it also defeats the purpose of reading music if your brain works like a recording device, example: i hear a cool song on the radio or internet then i pick up the guitar and play the song (not perfectly but usualy pretty close)
it dosn;t help that i can play any scale on a starting note, but i can;t even remember what notes i'm playing without stoping and thinking for a second.
I herd Suicide Messiah by Black Label Society the other day and pulled the rythem and most of the solo out of it only by ear.
I'm not dissowning the usefullness of reading music, i'm just saying i've never realy had a need for it.
Master the instrument or not, as long as your makeing the sound YOU like, screw every1 else and keep playing.
an example of what i just said, those Jonas Brothers ppl, THEY CAN'T PLAY GUITAR WORTH s**t, but they plays how they likes and are living off of it. (and i still think they r retarded homosexuals)

Well im kinda talking from the standpoint that i am in a band that will be recording with Reprise Records in a year so ya. The problem with playing by ear is alot of times you end up in the wrong key, same thing with tabs, sadly most people that play tabs and hear by ear are not playing in the key that the song is written in. Im not saying that it is an entirely bad thing to play by ear and read tabs but if you want to improve your playing you have to know the scales, pentatonics, minor pentatonics, blues scales, major sacles, minor scales, dorian scales, etc. If you ever wanna be like one of those amazing guitarist like slash and people like that or anywhere close or even want to develope your own style stop going by ear and reading tabs cuz you arn't truly going to get anywhere if you don't understand all the little details music is made up of, and at that point you arnt a true guitarist or musician.

not quite true, i've never had a problem getting keys right when playing by ear.
also not true, you don't have to know how to read music to develop your own style.
Thats what teachers will tell you because thats how they were taught, take it from a self taught musition, you don;t need to be able to read music to play it, you can easily learn some1 else's style and mutate it into somthing of your own, and scales are the simplest thing to learn, once again i learned every scale i know by ear cept for only one.
once again it all just depends on how you like to play.
if you are patient enough to let yourself be taught by others, or if you take the bull by the horns and do it yourself.
