"I would say that it's no problem, but that was pretty disgusting. I'd be happy not to do something like that a second time." Yuki shuddered at the thought. Well, at least Neko seemed like he was going to make it through. Temporarily, Yuki had his mind on something aside from the lab, if only for a few minutes. Unfortunately, his relief that Neko was recovering was quickly shattered. When Neko asked him about a plan, he frowned. "Plan?" A knot began to form in his throat again, "I'm... Not sure." What was he going to say? How could he say it? Yuki stood and walked quietly toward the door, hoping to keep his emotions from sight should they surface. He glanced out into the snow, just briefly thinking that he had heard something. He stared for a moment, but soon brushed it off as his mind playing tricks on him. There couldn't be anyone else out here.

Neko was already starting to show signs of improvement, even if it was small. His pained expression was fading and his labored breathing was slowly becoming steadier. The cold was still a problem though leaving him to shake relentlessly trying to warm up. It would take a while for his body to replenish the blood it had lost but all in all he was on the right track to recovery.
“Well, going back in the same way we came seems out.” Neko had paid little mind to Yuki’s reaction to his question. To him it was like he was pacing trying to think. “I’m sure they’ll double up on people now that they know we’re after Hitsu.” Neko paused a minute. “I hope she’s alright, what happened anyway? I couldn’t see a blasted thing.” It had been a casual question Neko really didn’t know what had happened though he was sure Hitsu was hurt.
---------
Still hearing nothing, Mitsu let out a sigh. Where could they have gone? Turning back to the ground, the wolf girl made to find their scent again. She feared it would take most of her two hours just to find them and then she wouldn’t have enough time to return. After a few minutes of fruitless searching, Mitsu found some more blood drops buried beneath the freshly fallen snow. Neko was bleeding an awful lot, she hoped he was okay.
Standing to her feet again, Mitsu followed the scent trail further into the wreckage of the lost city. It was an eerie feeling to walk in the lonely streets, seeing nothing but waste and destruction. Every once in a while Mitsu thought she had seen someone but when she turned, no one was there. A few times she had hoped she had seen Yuki and Neko but at the same time she was sure she had seen woman, children, elderly. But it had only been glimpses, shadows of the figures, and as soon as she had turned to get a better look their images faded into the snow. It got to the point where it was unsettling and Mitsu felt like there were eyes on her at all times. What was she seeing? Who was she seeing?
Trying her best to stay focused, Mitsu tried to keep her eyes looking forward but couldn’t help but spare a glance from side to side every once in a while to make sure she really was alone. “Yuki?” She turned thinking she saw someone again. “Neko?” No one, there was no one there. Taking off in a run this time, Mitsu tried not to panic telling herself that she was only running because she needed to find Yuki and Neko quicker, and not because she was running from someone. But still when she spoke she could not hide the fear in her voice. “Yuki!? Neko!?”

At first, Yuki had no objections to Neko speaking of what they should do. It meant he didn't have to make the suggestions himself. Though, the mention of his sister's name, let alone the words that followed, nearly brought him to tears. He fought against them, but his voice betrayed him, cracking when he tried to come up with a response. "S-she..." There was a long pause, in which he blinked against tears. "He... Hurt her... Pretty bad." He took a deep, shaking breath, and sighed. Don't make me say it... Please...

The strange sound in Yuki’s voice made Neko quirk his brow in question. Something was a miss the feline’s statement, either Suto hurt Hitsu really, really badly or it was something worse. Hoping for just being hurt, Neko forced himself back up into a sitting position, despite how is body protested against it. “What did he do to her?” He wanted Yuki to look him in the face but he was turned the other direction. Not satisfied with this Neko made the worst decision of his life and started to get to his feet. “Do you think she’ll be alright?” His question was asked through gritted teeth as he made his way up. With effort he made it to his feet but he had to brace himself against the wall for support. “Yuki?”
---------
Mitsu continued to run, barely keeping in mind at this point to follow the trail she had just found. She was so focused on running, escaping, that nothing else crossed her mind. Adrenaline was pumping through her veins with force making her heart beat hard within her chest. She was frightened by this point to look behind herself, even though there was no real reason for it. Stumbling a few times, Mitsu scrambled back to her feet but not before she felt something brush up against her leg. Out of fright she let out a scream and stumbled back to the ground at full force.
Finally braving up enough to look behind her to see what had touched her leg she saw nothing. There was only her tail, resting on the snow behind her as she sat. Relieved the wolf girl took a few deep breaths pressing a hand against her chest in hopes of calming her thundering heart. Wiping a few stray tears from her eyes she stayed there a moment to catch her breath, closing her eyes to regain herself.

Why did he have to ask? Yuki gritted his teeth in order to make no sound, but the emotions finally began to win. It had taken barely seconds for him to witness the events, but the memory seemed to replay in slow motion. Neko asked if she would be alright, and to this he got a grim response. "No." It was then that Yuki finally turned to face Neko again, eyes brimmed with tears that soon after began to fall. "Sh-she's... She's... Dead."

When Yuki gave his reply at first Neko thought it was some sort of odd joke, but the tears streaming down his face told him otherwise. “No, it can’t be.” He still didn’t seem to believe it. “Y….you just didn’t see what happened. That window was so small.” That had to be it. Yuki’s ability to see was off so he wasn’t able to fully grasp the situation. There was no way that Hitsu could be dead. “I…I’m sure she’s fine.” His voice was stammering as well, he didn’t want to believe it but at the same time he knew Yuki wouldn’t lie to him about something like that. Not about his own sister. But the cold stab Neko felt in his heart at the words ‘she’s dead’ kept lingering there refusing to go away.
Looking away for a moment Neko pressed a hand to his face, rubbing his eyes to be sure the tears that were threatening to escape wouldn’t. No, it wasn’t true. He kept telling himself. Hitsu is fine and we are going to get her out of there.

The denial he got from Neko brought a shake of Yuki's head, "She... Was ri-right there." He held his hands up in front of his face, as though she was still there in his grasp. Slowly he drew them back, covering his own face. It was clear, though, that he couldn't hold back anymore. "Right in front of me..." It was just above a whisper, "Right in front of me... And I didn't even see him..." Another shaking breath, and he sobbed. "I promised, Neko... I promised mother I would keep her safe..."

Listening to Yuki didn’t help Neko keep his stance much on the fact that Hitsu was okay. Could she really be gone? For a moment he started to think back to when they had first met, she had been a small child, and how could he have failed that innocent little girl now? Fighting the urge to tell Yuki he was wrong and continue to live in his denial, Neko slowly moved forward, leaning against the wall as much as possible for balance. “W…we don’t know anything for sure yet. We have to go back for her.” He wanted to keep some sort of hope alive even if it was small. “Let’s just-” Neko was cut off when he heard a scream echo from outside. Lifting his head a bit he staggered toward the window to look out to see what it was but saw nothing. “That scream sounded familiar.” His voice sounded concerned but not panicked about the scream.

Yuki shook his head at first. He'd seen Hitsu fall, how could there be doubts? He forced himself to try and believe Neko's words, to think that perhaps when they'd made a second attempt she would be alive and well. They'd get her back, one way or another. Standing here doing nothing wouldn't help her, they had to come up with a solid plan. "Y-you're right..." Yuki finally responded, suppressing his emotions again so that hopefully he could think straight. "But how are we going to get in?"
Just as soon as he could speak the question, the scream had rung out. Yuki gave a bit of a jolt, as it had been completely silent outside before, and he had sworn that they were completely alone. It had sounded feminine, and for just a moment Yuki almost suspected his sister. No, that was impossible. Wasn't it? "Where did it come from?" He looked out into the falling snow, before stepping out into it. He thought he had determined which direction it had come from, and hoped he could find whoever it had been by moving quickly toward it. "Hello!?" He called, hoping to be heard, so whoever it was wouldn't run off too quickly.

Neko couldn’t do much other than watch Yuki run off. He was in no shape to run, in all truth he was in no shape to stand either but he seemed to be getting by with that just fine at the moment. Leaning against the wall close to the door, Neko kept a watchful eye on their surroundings. Hopefully this wasn’t some sort of trap.
---------
The area had been silent once again and Mitsu felt her heart finally dropping down to a normal rate. She had only managed to scare herself. Sitting there a moment longer, intent to rest, she remained calm until she heard a voice ring out from the white haze that surrounded her. Almost instantly her heart jumped back up into her throat and she was frightened again until the voice started to trigger a memory. It did have a familiar sound. “Y…Yuki?”
Placing her hands on the ground, Mitsu shifted herself around in her sitting position to look in a different direction. Had she finally found them? “Yuki!?” Her heart still pounded as her anticipation grew. When would he come into sight? Or….had she only imagined the voice?

As the voice called out again, Yuki recognized it as Mitsu. For a second, Yuki felt disappointed, thinking that there had been a chance that it would have been Hitsu. He didn't slow, however, and followed the sound of her cry until she seemingly emerged from nowhere amidst the world of white. In fact, with her white hair and pale skin, she probably could have still blended in well enough with her surroundings if he'd not known she was there. That, and her bright red eyes stood out like beacons. "Mitsu?" He sounded shocked, "How did you escape?" He panted lightly to catch his breath, offering the girl a hand to pull herself up from the snow.

When Yuki came into sight a sense of relief washed over Mitsu. “They were taking me back to the testing area.” She repeated the lie but it somehow flowed so naturally from her lips. “There wasn’t too many people so I broke free before we got there.” Taking his hand she pulled herself to her feet and huddled close for safety, looking around to make sure there was no one else. Then she seemed to realize someone was missing that should have been there. “W…where is Neko?” She sounded worried. “I saw a lot of blood, i…is he hurt badly?”

Her lie was apparently accepted, as Yuki showed no signs of suspicion. She huddled close, and he draped an arm over her shoulder to try and shield her from the elements. "He's recovering." He responded, "Back this way, we've got to go and get out of the snow." He led her back toward the ruined building that they'd been resting in, barely able to double check that he was going the right way by the tracks he'd left that were swiftly vanishing. He found it with little trouble, thankfully, and brushed the snow from his clothes once he'd gotten back inside. A needless task, really, since it was still freezing cold either way.

Nodding, Mitsu followed Yuki closely until they were back at their temporary shelter. Once through the door Mitsu shook, as most dogs normally do, to rid herself of the snow covering her clothing. Despite not wearing much she didn’t appear to be cold, but she did appear worried as she continued to think about what needed to be done.
“Mitsu?” Neko sounded surprised. “How did you get out?” He looked to Yuki with a questioning gaze and then turned back to Mitsu awaiting her answer.
Setting eyes on Neko for the first time, Mitsu was relieved to find that he was okay. Just as Yuki said he was recovering and apparently well. “They were taking me back to the testing area,” She repeated the same answer again. “There wasn’t too many people so I broke free before we got there.”
Neko seemed to judge her answer for a moment but as with Yuki he just excepted it, showing no signs that he didn’t believe her. “Did you see Hitsu?”
There was a pause, “Y..yes.” Uneasy about the subject Mitsu cast glances between the two hoping they wouldn’t ask her further. She wasn’t sure she could keep the tears back.

Yuki had stood quietly as Neko and Mitsu spoke, but Neko's question of Hitsu brought Yuki's full attention to Mitsu. He swallowed hard, trying his best to fight against losing himself again. "H-how... How was she?" That tiny bit of hope forced him to ask, praying that he had been wrong. He stared at Mitsu worriedly, despite the answer he wanted so desperately to hear he tried to prepare for the worst.
