Julian in Wonderland - Part 1
"Wait! Wait!"
Julian was running, full-tilt, through a field of daisies. The flowers bled as he crushed them under his sneakers, staining the white to red.
He was persuing a little white rabbit - one that had stolen his pocketwatch. The creature bounded forward, whispering to itself that it was very late, very late indeed.
Julian, of course, never stopped to wonder that the rabbit was speaking. He was a writer, he had seen worse. Nor did he wonder why the sky was so dark, with no moon and no stars...strangely, a concrete sky.
Feral Labs loomed straight ahead, the doors unusually big. They rattled and jolted as if holding some monster back, the metal buckling and rippling. Julian wouldn't have gone towards those doors for anything...besides his book or pocketwatch.
One of which the rabbit had in it's little teeth as it bounded towards the building.
"Please! Wait!"
As he came upon the doors, the rabbit ran straight through - cutting through the metal as if it were a sheet of silver water. Julian hesitated...looking back and forth as the field became little more than a sheet of blood. Taking a deep breath, he plunged a hand, first, through the metal...it was pleasantly warm on the other side.
Before he could think about it, something big and furry grabbed him, yanking him straight through.
------------
A pair of wild brown eyes were staring down at him, shocks of wild red hair falling about the Rabbit's monstrous face. Julian was being held fast by the right forearm, a strong white paw pinning him to a stone wall.
"No...NO!" Julian kicked his feet - they were dangling about a foot above the ground - howling in pain. "Please, NO!"
But the Red-Haired White Rabbit simply gave him a stern little shake of his head, draping the pocketwatch around his neck again.
"Late, Julian. Too late. Too late for you, I'm afraid."
Julian screamed again, catching the Rabbit in the stomach with a well-placed kick. He moved to run - but the Rabbit was furious.
"HOLD HIM DOWN!"
A group of Card-Soldiers bolted around a corner, catching Julian's arms and ankles and dragging him back to the wall.
"Please! PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!" He howled and screamed, unable to move as the rabbit smiled at him. This was it...he was going to die...and it was going to be painful.
But just then, a more gentle touch landed on his shoulder. Whimpering, he looked to it....
Catching a wide grin and a glittering green stare.
His arm stung, and everything blackened.

You awaken to your face itching. If you run your hand along the side where it itches it seems to be growing hair, but softer, more like fur. The itching seems to lead into a burning of your ears as they stretch and point. Even as they do you realize something is happening inside them, as you can hear better than you could previously.
Where your fingers connect to your nails it burns as they begin to legthen and grow sharp. A slight curve forming as the nail is already digging into skin and becomming more like a razor than a human nail, though not that extreme yet. Your toes ache as they begin to grow just as your fingers do.
The itching that was once just on your face seems to fill your chest, as you watch fur form and grow there. Silver and grey, the colors of a tabby.
The most painful part of all though comes from your tail bone, you feel it legthening, itching also at the same time as it grows slightly, and sprouts it's own fur. It twitches a bit of it's own violation because of the discomfort your experiencing.
Your eyes tear, and when you close them you can feel something... changing, growing. As you develop the reflective membrane that allows cats to see in the color grey in the dark. Your vision from further away seems to change a bit, making you barely nearsighted. Your new vision more suited to things that are close by, as you almost have an instinctial desire to follow them with your eyes.
You feel your gums ache as your teeth legthen and they grow sharper. Your tongue feels weird as you notice it seems to be bumpy and more akin to sandpaper. This also seems to come with a craving for meat, as your tastebuds turn more... carnivorious.
Your nose also pushes up a bit, as it seems to reshape at the tip. You feel it become wet, like the nose of an animal. This is followed by realizing that your sense of smell if better than it was before. Your room full of smells that you never realized it had, some good, some bad.
This all happens slowly, but all too fast considering you are now a human, with a bit of feline in you.

Julian screamed aloud as he woke, a loud yowl escaping him and echoing about his room. That dream...it had been awful. Absolutely horrible...but at least it was just a -
His thoughts were interrupted by a violent itching at the sides of his face. Groaning, he reached up to scratch...but nearly felt his heart stop as he touched FUR.
"No...NO...NOT NOW...."
Stumbling off his bed, he yowled again, listening with horror to the sound of his ears loudly reshaping. A burning deeper inside them made his head spin - a ringing sound became apparent as his eardrums vibrated with the slightest of sounds.
"NOT NOW, NOT NOW!"
His voice was more like a hiss - it caught him off-guard and he tripped, falling with a heavy thud to the floor. His fingertips and toes began to burn - he sunk the forming claws into the carpet, breathing hard. Beneath his shirt, his thin chest began to itch and burn as well - he squirmed a bit against the floor, writhing in irritation and agony.
But just as he thought things were slowing down...he let out a fresh, high-pitched scream, arching his back in pain as his tailbone became a tail. He was crying - there was a horrible feeling in his eyes as he clenched them shut. He sobbed with pain, his lips curling back in cries of agony as his jaws and gums pulsed with a stab of pain. His tongue suddenly felt...abrasive...and he tried to avoid brushing it against the roof of his mouth.
As the last wave of pain swept over his face, his nose flattening, he blacked out.
______________
"Is he dead?" "No, he's breathing." "He looks funny, doesn't he?" "Yeah - his tail is twitching. He's going to have to cut a hole in his pants...."
Julian moaned, curling up a bit on the floor. Who was that talking...? Had someone come into his room? Shuddering at the thought, he cautiously looked up...and was even more frightened when he didn't see anyone there.
"Hello?"
"Well, well, well, Sleeping Beauty is awake, is he?" "Beauty? Not anymore." "Well, if you think fur is beautiful on a human...." "Human? HAH!"
Wincing, he wobbled to his feet, shaking and grinning his frightened grin. Keeping his eyes clenched shut, he felt his way along to the bathroom, creeping in and shutting the door.
He turned towards the mirror and opened his eyes...freezing in horror.
The first thing he saw staring back at him from the mirror was a cat with bright green eyes, grinning at him with fanged, bloody teeth.
"He even screams like a girl." "Wouldn't you? He looks horrible!" "A monster...." "Did you see those TEETH!?"
Julian started to sob, leaning heavily against the closed door and putting his hands over his ears.
"Shut up...." He hissed through his teeth, tail lashing behind him. "Shut up...go AWAY...."
But the voices didn't stop - he wasn't quite realizing it yet, but they wouldn't be blocked out by blocking his ears. No, they kept on murmuring, generally tsk-tsking Julian and the way he looked now. All he could do was slide down the door until he was crouching, choking and crying, a wide grin on his face. But it wasn't long before....
"There, there. It's not all that bad, Julian.
Starting, he looked around the room again for the source of this voice...this one so much louder than the others. But...no one was there....
This was just too much.
Letting out a wild scream, he stood up, tearing the door open again and storming into the room. His claws met the wall first, carving lines in the paint - then he swiped a few books (none of them Alice) off a shelf, letting them thump against the wall.
Gasping through his tears, he threw himself to his knees, curling into a little ball and putting his hands on the back of his neck.
"STOP IT!" He shrieked, fur on his tail standing on end. He cried there, shaking and grinning into the floor.
"STOP IT AND LEAVE ME ALONE...."

Ambrose was on his way home from the morning discussion with Greer and the Dude. In a way... he felt better. It was off his chest - he knew how they felt, and it was closed. They were together, and they were all friends. At least it hadn't screwed up their friendship - he had that to thank.
And after talking with them, he also realized that his longing for a relationship was mostly missing Angelina. Maybe the Dude was right about trying to get over her... even if it was a rebound relationship... But he didn't WANT to get over her. And this failed mess seemed to drive that in even more.
As he was heading to open his unlocked door, he heard... screaming from above him and froze, staring up at Julian's closed door.
What in the world...? A cold shiver ran down his back as he remembered Julian's creepy smile... having already pegged him as being a prime canidate for being mentally disturbed.
The scream sounded almost inhuman... had... had he changed? Dear lord, what would that have done to him?
Ambrose raced up the stairs and knocked on the door. "Julian?? Julian! It's Ambrose!"

It was a long moment before anything happened - Julian's voice could be heard, crying and murmuring from behind the door. After a minute or two, however, there was a faint click as the lock was undone. The door opened - just a slot - but it wasn't held, slowly creaking to about an inch ajar.
At least it was unlocked, though. And at least now Ambrose could get in.
Of course, it was less than inviting...the lights were off, and it was very dark inside.

Ambrose swallowed, remembering very well the morning after his change, and how reluctant he was to let someone see him.
He cautiously pushed the door open a nudge more and slipped into the room, closing the door behind him so as to not alarm Julian.
As his eyes adjusted to the darkness he spoke in a soft, comforting tone. "Julian...? I.. I think I know what you're going through... it... happened to me, too." He whispered. "I... can help you - if you like.."

He blended right in with the dark room - curled up on the floor in his dark clothes, face buried in the carpet. He whimpered, but didn't move...whispering under his breath.
"...Please...stop...stop talking...."
He didn't even seem to notice Ambrose yet.
"Julian...."
He whimpered, shivering, silver tail lashing. But quietly, the voice was more insistant...so insistant, in fact, that Julian heard the voice aloud.
Only it was because he muttered it...a low purr, for a split second.
"Julian."
Startled, he snapped his head up...looking at Ambrose with glinting feline eyes and a wide, frightened grin.

Ambrose froze as his eyes slowly brough the murky room to coherence, the mirrors behind his own eyes catching the light and amplifying it for him.
He saw the shape huddled against the floor - and a distinct tail lashing wildly.
He shut up upon the murmured plea, assuming Julian was talking to him.
Ambrose approached slowly, holding his hands up in a placating manner. He nearly had a heart attack as, he was going to kneel, Julian popped up wiht his eerie grin, amplified by the flashing feline eyes.
"Julian!" he eeked, and then caught himself, taking a breath. "Julian... I'm so sorry... it... dear lord that must have hurt." He whispered glancing at the tail - much longer than his own, and remembering the pain that the short nub had brought him that night.

He blinked at Ambrose for a moment, barely registering who it was.
"It...it did...." His voice was low, and a bit hoarse - his throat felt rather dry, and his tongue scraped the roof of his mouth.
After another moment, he realized more fully where he was and what was going on...and choked on another sob, pulling himself up to his knees.
"...P-please...turn on the l-light...."

Ambrose squeezed his shoulder very gently and nodded. "I'd be happy to help." He kept his voice quiet.
He got up, grabbed one of the cups and filled it with water, hearing his raspy voice, and then turned on the light, wandering back over to Julian and holding the cup to him with both hands.
"Here... drink this. I was parched after it happened to me." He sat down beside him.
"And I can go to the cafeteria and get you some food if you're not up to it yourself.

Whimpering a bit as the light was turned on, Julian shivered. Reaching out to take the cup, he nearly dropped it again at the sight of his claws.
He took a cautious sip, barely able to keep from spilling. At the second comment, he shook his head a little.
"...I have food here...it was one of the...terms...." He gestured faintly to the small fridge he had.
"...Ambrose...is there...anyone...outside my door?" His tone was pleading.

Ambrose's expression was soft, sympathetic as he sat down completely into a seated posiiton by his side.
"No.... there was no one out there but me." He said quetily, steading the cup in his hands. "And.... it's okay, Julian... you don't look that bad at all." He gave an encouraging smile.
"Would you like me to go get any of that food for you from your fridge?"

"...I...don't? I haven't...really...looked...." Shaking, he took another swallow, comforted enough to function a little better.
"...Please...I...I am hungry...." He looked down, feeling rather embarrassed at how helpless he sounded. He glanced down at his tail again, grimacing.
"...How...bad IS it? I know I have fur on my face...and...probably my chest...." A pause. "...And I can...smell you...."

Ambrose nodded, scooting over to the fridge and getting an array of food for the new feline.
He came back over to his side. "IT... well... it doesn't look bad on you." He said with a wincing smile. "Some fur, a tail... claws.. eyes?" He squeezed his shoulder again. "You... well... it looks feline. See? That's not so bad. You were worried I remember that it might be a bad animal." He swallowed, ignoring the obvious comment about cats and dogs and neighbors and all that.
"And I can smell you too.. I... haven't mentioned it to many people. I know it's creepy."

"...It's...going to take some getting used to...."
Gingerly, he took a piece of ham from the plate, sinking his newly-lengthened teeth into it and chewing quietly.
In a sudden burst of bravery, he put his hand up to his face...shuddering and grinning as he touched his wet, flat nose.
"I suppose...a cat...isn't that bad...."
'Of COURSE it isn't. Why, I would be offended.'
He jumped a little, looking around.
"...Ah...did you...hear that?"
