I've considered playing, but I have no idea what I'd do if I did start since I have next to no exprience with online games.
So if I were to play, what would you guys suggest?
Well, most definitely you'll want to join the Horde on Shadowsong. Otherwise, the rest of us won't be able to talk to you. After that, it all about class preference. What kind of play style do you think would suit you best?

I don't really have a preference and as for the little experience with online games all I've really played is Conquer, and on that I basically stayed back and healed and raised others' stats.
Looking at the roles listed on the game's site I'd probably be suited to a Healer or Caster role based on experience, but like I said I have no preference so if you guys need something else I can see if I'm suited toward that role.

As far as healers go there are 3 prime choices. Paladins, Druids, or Priests. Honestly, I'm not very well versed in their advantages and disadvantages, but if you play caster your best choice would probably be Priest. Druids usually rely on their Feral forms when soloing, so they can't cast most spells(although some chose to purely cast). Paladins can be great healers, but when soloing they rely on their strength and armor over spells. Priests are considered some of the best healers, and have some rather strong shadow spells. I've seen a shaman or two heal, but I've never known them to be great healers.

The thing is, most of us are in our late 40s and 30s, so chances are you'll probably want to go with a more combat oriented specialization with whatever class you choose. Paladins have Retribution, Druids have Feral, Shamans have Elemental, and Priests have Shadow. After leveling up a bit you can always go to a trainer and reset your talent tree for a gold at first, then 5 the next time if you want to.

The best idea if you're uncertain would be to download the trial version first though. It's free, and gives you a general idea on what to expect.

If those are the 2 types you're used to, you could try a Druid, Shaman, or Priest.
Either of those classes can be played to cast damaging spells, or heal/buff other players.

Downloaded the trial version.
I'm an Undead Priest at level 8, name is Rolflandale, and at the moment I'm just outside Deathknell trying to get some pumpkins.
Unless someone feels like giving me a hand a the moment, I think I'm going to be taking a little break (30-50 minutes) from it then I'll be on for another 2-3 hours.

I tried adding you to my friends list. "Player not found."

Did you make sure you created your character on the realm Shadowsong? WoW has tons of different servers to keep the game from getting super crowded. When you're new, it sends you to a server with a low population, so you have to go to the Realm List on the character select screen to change to one you want to play on.

I hope you don't feel like you put a lot of effort into your character so far. It's a really annoying feeling, just getting the the hang of things, then having to start over, but try not to let it get you down. domokun

Yeah, it's Shadowsong.
I'll see if I can add you to my friend list.
Edit: Added you to my list no problem. Did you type the name right?... I've seen people mess up Rolf as Rofl far too often, and having an l right after probably just makes things worse. >_>
