Kirana giggled, "My flitter. A green dragon certainly couldn't perch on the Weyrwoman. We'd have Ephia pancakes if she did," Kirana said, clearing her throat and trying her best not the laugh at the idea. "And no, I'm merely a Harper Apprentice. I don't think I've have what it takes to Impress... Besides, I actually think I'm too old..." She sighed a bit.

"Pancakes?" He laughed at this and almost fell down from laughing as he imagined a green dragon trying to sit on anyone. "That was funny. Your funny, I like you. You remind me of my sisters. I have a few of them."
He thought about what the Harper apprenetice said. "Who decides who is right for a dragon? Only the dragon knows and makes its choice. As for being too old...I do not know how that works...I just know that I came to the Weyr before fourteenth turn and asked if I could be considered for the Search."

"Most people, especially the older riders, say that anyone older than 15 should not be eligable for Impression, since that's how it has always been," Kirana said, opening her bag and putting the skin away. "But they also used to say that anyone from outside the Weyrs shouldn't be either. Ultimately, it is the dragon who decides who Impresses. My parents would throw a fit if I did, even by accident. They hate dragonriders."

"I can understand why, for the rider and dragon live for each other. But why would your parents hate dragonriders? They keep the skies free of thread and Pern free of danger." Nestren cocked his head up to her, spring green eyes trying to meet hers. "Do hate them?"

Kirana shook her head, "I don't hate them..." She said, sighing. "And the reason they hate them... I'm not sure. Though, I know it ended up causing my brother to hate riders as well...but I think his hate is more of a guilt than anything."

"They will never hurt or harm us. Maybe if they met a dragon up close it would change their mind? And to hate riders? I know that no one can like everyone...but in general to hate them is not a good thing."

Kirana nodded, "My parents are old... They're also deep set in tradition. And my brother...he was chosen for a hatching when he was 13, but our parents refused to allow him to go. When we heard that a blue had between rather than Impress anyone in the crowd..." Kirana shook her head. "My brother was never a nice person, but I think the guilt was what finally warped him so much he wasn't really human anymore."

The parents refused to let the boy go and a hatchling died. "It sounds like a part of your brother died when he could not be with his dragon-mate. I heard that being Impressed by a dragon is so life changing that if either partner dies..."
He did not continue his sentence. "Tis a shame, that they allowed themselves to be ruled by traditions. Traditions need to change and have to change with the times."
This was probably the most serious he had ever been.

Heroe gave a shy smile and blushed a bit more after Raphalle's comment. She then nodded fingering her flute carefully.
"Yes I do play... I was taught by my father and by R'em, the blue dragon rider. They said there is more to music than just stories. And I found that out also. Like my newest song..." She then bowed her head afraid she might should like a braggert again. "I have a few songs in that book... one that isn't quite finished yet... The Dragon's Lulibye..." She added in an even softer tone.

Talon had a grin to match Rafaelle's, for he too was glad to have at least one ally among so many. He hadn't been here for long, in fact he wasn't even sure if you could say he's been there for a whole sevenday. His thoughts strayed back to his home, he pondered what his father might be doing. He was sure his mother was still grieving, afraid to lose her only child. He was almost sure. When Rafaelle lost interest in the sketchbook he took it from her hands while she had her turn to marvel at the flute. The skin around his lips tightened into a bigger smile. He studied the paper in awe. His fingers carefully dragged over the paper, careful not to smudge the charcoal.
He then overheard a story, actually more than that. A real-life happening, a boy just about Talon's age, he had been chosen for as candidate. His father denied his son the right to leave. He paused, thinking of how close he was to that same sitituation. His father was angry when he heard his only son, child at that wasn't going to carry on their trade. Then he heard the rest, the dragon would rather die then accept any other than his chosen one. His heart swelled at the thought of a small blue hatchling, for that moment his eyes closed and his imagination ran wild, interpting the story into it's own. As if Talon had been there he watched the story play on. He wanted to cry out and try and stop the halfling, but it was of no use.
He stopped, a pity it was, Talon opened his eyes to see Heroe and Rafaelle, another forced smile laid upon his lips. He remembered something one of the rider's told. So then, it was fact. A dragon was bound to one and one only and should the case be that this one wasn't there, the dragon chose to live no more. It was a sad concept, Talon blinked once, twice as his gaze dwelled on the ground. He looked around to see more had gathered along the stands and perches, his gaze turned back on the Queen as her very site entrapped him. Talon could only stare on at the dragon's beauty. The light would reflect off those scales, even from the distance he stood Talon could only look on past those pearly eyes that were like jems.
He snapped out of it when Heroe spoke, Talon totally missed Rafaelle's comment and Heroe's blushing. He looked up at Heroe and smiled, he remembered when he wished to be a Harper, however things changed and his father swept him off to become his apprentice. Heroe seemed lucky, since she had a father who supported her real talents. He kept a smile, glad for Heroe. "When you finish it, I would love to hear it... that is if you don't mind." Talon looked up at her with his handsome brown eyes that were so striking amongst his face. He always loved to listen to the Harpers and even those who hadn't had the opprotunity to take up the craft. It seemed in general he had always had an ear for ballads and lullabys.

Amirynth Kalya blinked a few times as her mind caught up. "I believe I have heared of a... talent like that. You mean to say you can here my Tarlith?" She seemed a little confused on how that was suppost to work, but then again, she never could quite get the hang of mindspeakign anyway. "Shards! That is so amazing." She grinned, her face bright with curiosity. "Can you read minds or just listen to thoughts?" Lemurrin's face flushed. "I.. I've been hearing them. Dragons, I mean. Lots of different ones. I try not to intrude..." He rubbed his forehead. "But no, I don't hear the riders. I hope no-one minds... You're the only person I've told." The harper laughed in spite of himself. "I suppose the dragons know!"

"That would explain Tarlith's recent smugness." Kalya laughed slightly and she glanced over towards her weyrmate. "Well then, Lemurrin, I feel honoured to be the one to hear about it first." Kalya looked seriously into his eyes before smiling slightly again. "I guess this just proves it... you have to be a dragonrider... and the dragon that chooses you has to be that one." She points to a mottled green/gray one that was closest to the crowd with a chuckle. "OK, so I am not the one to be guessing which egg will hold your partner. But I get the feeling I'll be calling you L'murrin soon."

Rafaelle grinned enthusiastically, agreeing with Talon. "And maye you could write a singing part to go with it, or another instrument part. Maybe you could preform for the Weyrleaders! In honor of the newest clutch!" She continued on this string for a minute, before catching herself, blushing, and looking down, embarassed.
"Ehm. . . sorry, I get carried away sometimes. . ." she said quietly with a nervous grin. "But I'd love it if you could play it for us," Rafaelle said with a warm smile.
