10) Half Life 2
don't agree with it. AWESOME game and use of physics is revolutionary! It freaking fun!

9) Duke Nukeum 3D
agreed. While it is fun, it sorta lacking in many areas...

cool Halo
DON'T agree with it! Halo 1 deserved the praises because its gameplay are almost unrivaled and the story is one of best in videogame history! Halo 2 and 3 are extremely overrated... why aren't they on the list???

7) Jade Empire
agreed. Great RPG, but overrated... combats are too easy and the ending is bit disappointing

6) Metal Gear Solid 2
agreed. So overrated... Raiden should never ever become a playable character in first place...

5) Doom 3
great FPS, but a very lacking Doom game... Doom 2 remain the best ever.

4) Gran Tursimo 4
never played it. can't say

3) Super Mario 64
WHO MADE THIS SELECTION?!?! Mario 64 is one of the most fun and revolutionary games ever made and is still heck a lot of fun after 11 years! I absolutely do NOT agree with this.

2) Tomb Raider
well... it hard to say... it indeed good game, yet it didn't stand up to test of time... I dunno, it is still fun game... undecided for now

1) Grand Theft Auto: San Andres
agreed. It is old rehash of tried-and-true formula. GTA4 better be something new and refreshing.

and where's Zelda: Twilight Princess?? It may be great game, but it don't really deserve that kind of praises...

You guys realise that someone with a PS2 that's never played a single Metal Gear game (like me) could play MGS2 and love it, then play any MG game starring Snake and hate it because it doesn't include Raiden?
Now, who wants to send me a free copy of MGS2 so I can pass judgement?

Metal Gear fan here.

I don't like MGS2 because of Raiden. Blues seriously I hate him, I wanted to play as Snake. Plus come on Oil Rig? It seems that you have no clue what you are talking about.

Come on man get with the program. I hate MGS2 with a passion, it was boring, the cut scenes were longer. How the ******** you can it's better when you staring at Raiden's a** for a long time.

Look Blues, I respect your opinion but come on Raiden is a joke. The only Raiden I know is from MK. And he is bad a**, and plus a love story. Dude MGS: Twin Snakes is so much better than MGS2 it's not funny.

Dude Metal Gear is Snake, it's not about some random character jumping in calling himself Snake.

It's bullshit when the main character is not there. It's like when they added Axel to MMX series. BS and Kojima did the right thing on MGS 3: Snake Eater. And what is that? Playing as Snake.
So far the entire Metal Gear main canon has had three games with Solid, two with Big Boss, and one with Raiden all released (not counting the secondary versions such as Substance). Metal Gear isn't just Snake.

Personally, I loved that the world was bigger than just ******** Snake. It kept him from being Master Chief or Gordan Freeman and made the rest of the world look like they're actually somewhat competent. You know, like a world brinking on a Cyber Punk military setting with bi-pedal mecha, psychics, exo-skeleton assassins, societal influence through subtle molding of general thought, etc.

MGS2 was actually different. It was a change in the formula. Having played both the original Metal Gears, pre-solid release, MGS1 was simply taking the mechanics of MG and MG2 then shoving them into a 2.5D world.

Hell, it's arguable that Metal Gear is all about Big Boss considering MG, MG2, MGS, MGS3, and MPO in the end are actually about him.

Hell, at this point Liquid and Ocelot or more important than Solid.

Plus, the love story? It was a frigging ruse to influence Raiden. Patriots, meme, influencing how society thinks, etc. etc. Everything in MGS2 was a lie to fool the player and the character up until the last 1/4th of the game.

MGS: Twin Snakes was a ******** travesty. I'm sorry, but that Silicon Knights remake was bullshit.

Metal Gear with only Snake would be as boring as Ghost in the Shell with only Motoko. Proof of that is the GITS movie in 1995/6 where the rest of Section 9 were dropped aside from Batou.

Lol, you say are Metal Gear fan and then say Twin Snakes was bull s**t. It was the same game with just MGS2 controls somewhat. And you call youtself a Metal Gear fan lmao.

Snake is Metal Gear.

Solid Snake is the coolest character ever. Raiden is the lamest character ever along with Axel.

While I like Metal Gear a lot, there are always going to be games that seem eh. MGS2 just got into this caterogy. The sexual inneudo was too odd for me.

I will give it some credit though, while sometimes I wish I hadn't played the game. It's still Metal Gear.

Also Motoko is freaking awesome. GiTS without Motoko is like Goku is without DBZ, it wouldn't make any sense.

One reason I can tell you've never played a Doom game before: Doom 3 wasn't lacking. It revolutionized Doom by adding polygonal graphics, jumping, shooting upwards, and it was more oriented on atmosphere and survival-horror elements than the previous installments. The only person who could say Doom 3 was lacking as a Doom game is someone who's never played a Doom title before. Also, it's essentially a frag-fest, so it's supposed to be about blasting monsters. Now, as someone who's actually played Doom before, I think that Doom II and 3 were both just as great. And remember, Doom 3 wasn't a sequel, but rather a re-imagining of the first game, and there are many references that hint that. Either you've never played any Doom game before, or you're just being ignorant. And Halo: Combat Evolved was heavily over-rated just as much as its sequels were. (I tried to not include any flaming in this post, if it was too harsh, just let me know. But, I was being pretty truthful here.)

I say I'm a Metal Gear fan because I actually gave MGS2 a chance and looked past some superficial love for a character with a mullet and bandanna whom spent three games with a majority of his dialogue being primarily repeating whatever was said before him in the form of a question.

"Snake, it's a Metal Gear!"

"It's a Metal Gear!?"

Also, Twin Snakes changed too much between it and the original.

This love for Snake is practically bullshit since technically he didn't do anything of merit except play lead in MGS. The guy was more likable in MGS2 after finally creating some kind of competency for him. MGS2 gives a real reason for liking Snake.

However, loving Gray Fox/Frank Jager over any other Cyborg Ninja is totally acceptable because he had a fleshed out character.

Snake isn't Metal Gear because he's only one part of the narrative. This isn't Half-Life, Mario, Halo, or any other game with the world revolving around one person. The existence of Solidus, Gray Fox, Dead Cell, Liquid, Ocelot, Campbell, Major Zero, The Boss, Big Boss, and others prove that.

I mean, hell, if you paid attention to the narrative (what Metal Gear is about) the whole series pretty much revolves around Big Boss and his ambitions and the memory of the man. Solidus, Solid, and Liquid are clones of him. Outer Haven was his dream, the world of mercenaries. He faced Shagohad, Raxxa, and built the Metal Gears from MG, and MGII, along with being the driving force behind the original Metal Gear Solid, and is the star of MGS3 and MPO while being the person that brought Frank Jager into Fox Hound after establishing it.

Solid Snake is nothing with out Big Boss.

On Ghost in the Shell, Motoko is nothing with out Section 9. She's the Major, but with out the likes of Togusa, Batou, Chief Aramaki, Saito, and the others the show becomes pointless and would devolve into nothing but fan service nude body shots. By herself she has no character personality. It's only through Section 9 that she has anything to like at all because they trigger her flaws and her positives. By herself just kicking a** she'd be a Mary Sue.

That was a pretty bad list.

Why do people hate Raiden so much?

Superficial love for Solid Snake, even though he'd have been just as "annoying" as Raiden had he been given any voice that wasn't "gruff" sounding.

MGS2 gave Snake a reason to be considered cool as we finally see him in a manner that is different than MG through MGS. Instead of the player controlling him we were able to see him as just him finally acting out in a way that his character could be fleshed out instead of a marionette dancing to the players whim.

You guys realise that someone with a PS2 that's never played a single Metal Gear game (like me) could play MGS2 and love it, then play any MG game starring Snake and hate it because it doesn't include Raiden?
Now, who wants to send me a free copy of MGS2 so I can pass judgement?

I thought most MGS fans hated Raiden.

*facepalm*

No matter, that is a legit reason not to like MGS2, as everyone makes it out that you can't play as anyone BUT Raiden.

Me, Raiden scares me, Snake scares me, hell, FOX scares me.

Basically, Metal Gear Solid scares me. Thanks alot 1 and 3, you scared me for life.

I was only surprised when it turned out that you play as him. He grew on me though, as Snake did.

And Snake was a lot cooler in the second one. He actually remained mysterious, like he should, instead of the player being able to stalk him with the magic videogame camera.

Actually, it isn't until the Oil Rig that you play as Raiden. The fight with Olga, the tanker, the introduction of Metal Gear Ray. All Snake. Raiden isn't introduced until the player is introduced the illusion crafted by the Patriots.

A good reason to hate the game is that the game is essentially the cake, it's a lie. The entire game is a recreation of MGS1 being familiar and foreign at the same time as a Patriot experiment in controlling the original thought that influences society.

Raiden was the guinea pig, as was the player. The player was forced into a situation where there was almost zero influence and you were essentially playing a lie. Raiden, for all intents and purposes, was an actor for 3/4s of the game playing a role that had already been cast. He was told he was green, that this was his first field mission, etc. etc. The player believed it until the truth came out.

Raiden was suppressing himself, memories and talents, and the player was helping that by playing as Snake instead of Raiden. Once the player accepts that they aren't Snake that is when Raiden becomes himself and the character dramatically changes from being a green actor to a seasoned field operative that he was.

If anything, playing as Raiden was playing Frank Jager.

The entire game was about the process of thought, belief, and outside influence. The Patriots influenced Raiden to believe he was Snake in an effort to create a perfect soldier and finish the experiment in influencing society to grow the way they see fit by influencing a small section of society, infecting it like a virus with memes.

The player would essentially ruin the game for themselves by believing the lie.

I like snake better because he looks all bad a**, which fits the story and his personality. But Raiden looks like he came strait from from a Japanese RPG. But he does look much better in MGS 4.

Blues, No matter how much Metal Gear religion you spread about, people still don't like the game. You don't like it, fine, get back on to fapping to new MGS4 screens like everybody else, but for the love of god, don't invoke criticism someone for not liking a ONE game in a series. You are not them, you will never be them, you can't tell them what is right and what Is wrong on opinion unless there is god given proof to back it up.

And don't give me the, you've already given me proof bullshit, cause all I've seen is an inane love for Metal Gear Solid 2. YOUR INANE love, not ANYBODY ELSE'S.
