"No! i mean yes! i mean...i'd like to but...you might have noticed im not exactly popular, it would look bad and your team wont like it" he said, glancing voer Kiba's shoulder at the team that was stairign at them and whispering before he quickly looked away

"Well, not everyone in this school is popular. I don't even think I'm popular and you shouldn't worry about the rest of my team. They seem to go along with any of the decisions I make," Kiba said as he looked back at his teammates. They quickly looked away and grew silent.

Naruto used hsi chopsticks to swish hsi food around "Yeah but you ARE popular and well...im not jsut UNpopular...people hate me here enough to try and kill me" he mumbled, taking a bite of his food with a miserable expresion on his face

"Why?" Kiba asked as he stared at the other. He found himself talking a lot more than he usually did during lunch. "Why do they hate you? You're not a mean person and you happen to be a very easy person to talk to. This is probably the first I've ever said more than five words during lunch."

Naruto gave a slightly twisted smile "im poor, i live by myself and i used to live on the street until Iruka took me in." He replied quickly ,taking another bite of food "My mother vanished and when my father died suddenly, well..." he trailed off with a sigh

"I'm sorry for asking," Kiba whispered as he grew silent. He stared at the food before him and didn't feel like eating anymore. He slowly stood to his feet and whispered, "Practice is after school at the track, if you wanna come." He walked away and was quickly surrounded by people who wanted to get his attention. He ignored them as he dumped his food and headed out of the cafeteria.

[little timeskip now]
Narutp spent mostof hte day avoiding people, espicily Kiba. he had almsot decided not to go but...Kiba HAD stood up for him so he sort of owed him and besides, what if he COULD be good for the team? He loitered in the shadows near the track, gettign a few odd looks from the others that had already arived.

"Okay, everybody, let's start with are warm-up excercises! We don't want to accidently pull something!" Kiba ordered as he ran on to the track. He started stretching out his legs and watched the other do the same. He looked around and caught sight of Naruto. A small smile appeared on his face as he ran over to the other. "You're here. That's great. Are you gonna come and warm-up with everyone?"

naruto blinked but gave a snmall nod "yeah" he said as he followed kiba back to the tohers and began to warm up, bending easily like a willow branch

Kiba clapped his hands together to get everyone's attention. "Okay, we're gonna start with a hundred meter dash! Now, get into lines and run when I give the signal!" Kiba stood at the start of the dash and started running at full speed to the end. He looked back at the others who waited to run and raised his hand and threw it down to give the signal.

Naruto burst into a run, fairly flyign as he outdistanced the rest of hte team by a good ten feet as he crossed the finish line. He turned around and got a nervious look as the tohers stared at him as they crossed and began to whisper amongst themselves. Naruto chewed hsi lwoer lip and shifted nerviously from foot to foot

"Wow!!" Kiba yelled as he started laughing. "That was amazing, Naruto." He quickly looked at the others and silenced them just by getting eye contact. He raised his hand and threw it down for the next set of runners and continued until everyone was on one side. "Okay, now, let's run a 200! I know you all know this but as the running distance gets further you have to not give it your all at the beginning of the race. You'll only die out by the end of the race and find yourself unable to move correctly for several minutes. Well, on your mark! Get set! Go!" Kiba started running with the first set and made sure he was way ahead of the others. He was holding back and saving it for the very end of the 200.

naruto was right by his side and slwoly pulling ahead, he did not even look slightly winded. Running away from bullies had its advantages it seemed. He stretched his legs and passed the finish line a good 10 feet before Kiba and stood therem bouncing lightly from one foot to the other one

Kiba crossed the finish line and quickly looked back at the others who finally made it. He noticed how tired they had become and let out a little laugh. "You guys need to work out more often." One of the track members struggling to breath gasped, "What about you? Y-you lost to....the new kid." Kiba tensed slightly and looked to the side. He forced out a laugh and smiled, "Well, it's not like you beat the new kid either."
