Once she'd stopped swimming in said circle, Mect reached out a fin and used it to lift one of hers, then drop it, hmming thoughtfully as he did so. Then he broke out into a wide grin. "I think I was right. You grew into one of the prettiest betas I've seen yet." Another movement of his fin, only this time it was to rub his chin. "And too big for a pony-back ride, I'm afraid."

Seren blushes when Mect calls her pretty, her cheeks getting slightly darker. "I don't need pony back rides anymore, I could probably out swim you anyway." Seren tags her fin on Mect's shoulder and takes off in the direction of the meadows, yelling back over her shoulder, "Catch me if you can!"

Once again, she took him by surprise, both by her speed and by her dirty little trick. Pushing off with a powerful swipe of his tail, he swam after her, hollering, "Cheaters never win, ya know!"
She was fast, but he was a pony. This race was going to be a close one....

Looking behind her, Seren sees him slowly closing the distance between them. She speeds up and starts darting through outcroppings of rocks, using her smaller size to her advantage to squeeze through holes, knowing he would have to swim around.

Mect started out dodging and leaping over the outcroppings that Seren was darting through, but when he saw her go between a pair of coral branches that looked wide enough, he leaped towards the opening...
...And promptly clocked himself a good one on the noggin, spiraling back and then plopping into the sea floor in a cloud of sand and foam.

Looking back over her shoulder again, Seren sees Mect hit his head and fall to the floor of the tanks.
"Oh, no!" She races back towards him, "Mect! Are you alright?"

Dazed, Mect blinks blearily up at Seren. "Why yus, Miss Angelfish, I'm ferfectly pine." It didn't look like there was anything bleeding, but there was definitely an egg-shaped lump starting to raise on his forehead.

"Maybe we should just swim slow and forget about Racing." Seren eyes the knot on Mect's forehead guiltily. "I'm sorry... I didn't think about it I just took off."

Starting to lift himself out of the sand, Mect gave his fins a hearty shake. "Whatever you say, Miss Pretty Angelfish." A lopside grin, and a bit of a list to the left. "You're waaaay too nice. Waaay."

"I'm not an angelfish, but I suppose I'll let you call me one. If it makes you happy." Seren help the other fish up before swimming along at a much slower pace. "How've you been? Any Fry yet?"

It took him a moment to finally get the swing of swimming in a straight line, but once he did, Mect kept pace with Seren handily. "Fry? No, not yet. Not for lack of tryin', though." The initial rush that had kept him from really feeling the pain of the bump was starting to wear off, and he reached a fin up to poke at it gingerly.

"Does it hurt? Do you need to sit down?" Seren puts a fin over the big male's shoulder. "I still don't think I'm ready for Fry yet. But I've been helping My momma with the babies in our tanks at home."

"Nah, if we get to the meadows I'll be fine, girlie." The more pain he felt, oddly enough, the more it cleared his head, and Mect was finally starting to return to normal. Well, normal for Mect, anyhow. "I bet you're a big help with all those babies. You're going to make a great mother yourself one day, ya know?"

Seren blushes slightly at the comment, "Thank you... I really hope I am one day, but I still haven't met the right Beta." Seren sighs as the Meadow comes within sight in the distance.
