Shouko looked torn for a moment, but eventually shrugged. It was his apartment, after all. "Go ahead," she said, though without much emotion. She'd smelled it on him, of course, though it seemed odd. Hadn't he been so athletic when they were younger?
"Are you still doing gymnastics?" she asked.

Teagan felt a little like she was scolding him, but didn't say anything as he pulled out a pack of slims. He stuck it in his mouth and flicked the lighter, taking a drag while he tried to think of how to phrase it. "Well," he started, "I still do tricks and dance, but it's kind of hard to still do the competitive stuff since the gym shut down."

"It did?" asked Shouko, honestly surprised. "When did that happen?"
Here was another obvious drawback to being in another dimension for eight months. When you got back, it wasn't immediately clear how much you'd missed. She leaned back and tried to remain casual, as it were. Still, the plant part of her hated the smell of things burning.

"About six months ago or so. Coach couldn't afford to keep it up and her mom was sick so she moved back home. A lot of stuff's changed," he admitted, "I got a tattoo, that's um, kinda good." He was trying not to be depressing, since she was obviously upset. Unfortunately he hadn't realized it was the smoke that was bothering her.

"Where?" asked Shouko, narrowing her eyes at him and suppressing a cough. Nowhere inappropriate, she hoped. She also hoped that he'd be done with his nicotine fix soon enough and put the damn thing out, but didn't say anything. She was, after all, a guest.

"On my chest," he said quickly, starting to pull his shirt off, "It's um, a religious symbol. The creation of man in Eden." He had nearly forgotten the cigarette in his mouth, and the ember was starting to burn down. "What do you think?" he asked, starting to feel the chill of a broken heater.

"Wow," breathed Shouko. It was certainly the most artistically executed tattoo she had ever seen. Then she realized how close she had inadvertently gotten to him and, coughing slightly on smoke, backed away, blushing furiously.
"Er, sorry."

Teagan blushed a bit, realizing why she was apologizing. "Oh, don't worry about it. I mean. Sorry," he stammered, not really sure how to explain that stuff like that didn't bother him. The cigarette flicked, nearly ashing on him, and he suddenly remembered it. He reached beneath the futon and pulled out a glass ashtray, pointedly stamping out the butt in it before he pushed it back under. "So uh, I guess you don't really get close to guys that often," he joked, figuring out moments later how the comment was truly in bad taste.

"No, I don't," simpered Shouko, tucking her knees towards her chest again and turning back towards the television. He cheeks were quite possibly a brighter shade of pink than her hair by now.
Onscreen, the queer blond pirate with the wacky eye declared his love for a woman with dreadlocks. Shouko leaned forwards, pretending to be interested.
"That's lame," she scoffed. "The best thing they could think of is having her grow fifty feet and turn into a bunch of crabs?"

"Yeah, I guess that's kinda lame," he agreed, "She should've like, flipped the ship into the air. But I guess if they all die they can't make another one." It was an interesting prospect though, he decided. "So who are you living with now?" he asked, remembering she'd mentioned her mother missing, "Are you just staying at the Project House?"

Shouko nodded. "I'm staying at the Project House, yeah," she sighed. "I'm doing paperwork and cleaning and sending out flowerpots and all the stuff Miss Lena used to do." She frowned, watching mayhem build on screen.
"Elizabeth sure does kick butt, doesn't she?" she asked.

"Yeah she really does," he said, slightly amazed. He had been in the project house before, but he really couldn't imagine staying there. At least not alone. "If you ever want to stay here for a night you're more that welcome," he offered, "You could take my room, I'd sleep out here."

"That's okay," Shouko lied, not wanting to be any more of a burden than she already was. "It's fine to stay at the Project House. I really fixed it up. The crash room is really the sort of place you could live now."
She looked over at the screen.
"Sweet whirlpool. I love the special effects in these movies."

"Alright," Tea agreed warily, "But just so you know my door's always open. Or you know, available to be open." He turned to look at what she was complimenting, and found himself unable to look away from the middle. Subconciously he shivered, remembering that that was how his last entry to Eden had begun.

"Thanks," said Shouko, deciding that the smoke had dissipated enough to lean back against him. His shoulder felt tense.
"Something wrong?" she asked
