"Indeed, they can surprise you, though I'm not so sure its fair to say that they did know what they were getting into...just like us. In fact, we still don't know. We're not so different I suppose. In any case, let's get this back to the lobby and keep it out of sight."

Ambriel looks back at the elevator as if it were to open at any moment and realizes a hitch in the plan. Sera needs to get out too, and in order for that to happen she is going to come back through this room with Mr. Rebner. He would really prefer not to hurt the kindly guard.

"We need a way to get the guard out of the elevater, past this empty case, and into the lobby, all without noticing anything. Not to mention he already expects us to be there because of my "ailment". Ideas?"

Important OoC: >> Unfortunately, Roselite was hacked a few hours (not sure how many) before this post, and is currently locked out of her account, which has been altered to the abomination that is Darkness Cake. It may be months before her account can be restored, if ever, so she will be creating a temporary account and posting through that. <<

Hamael strolled out of the bathroom, whistling a tune to himself, checking emails on his Blackberry. Mortals might be scum, but they came up with some interesting machines during his incarceration. He returned to the lobby and looked at the entrance, "My time is worth at least 400 dollars an hour, Rampel" he said, "not that I don't love being with your charming self, there are things I could be doing. With that in mind, where are the other two?"

After a few minutes passed, Sera and the guard could be seen coming back up from the basement and almost everyone could hear Sera talking up a storm, asking what seemed like a million and one questions. The guard nodded, answering whatever he could as well as walked her back to the group. She made sure to keep his attention on her so as to not notice if anything was amiss.

OOC: Thank you for letting everyone know about my old account, Redford.

Seeing Sera and Rebner arrive at the lobby still chatting calmly, Ambriel is relieved. It means he hasn't noticed anything. He resists looking at Isiac and the tablet under his jacket, instead locking eyes with the guard so as to keep the him focused away from the stolen property. "I can't thank you enough for your kindness. Good day now. Take care." He says as he backs out of the building keeping his gaze fixed.

Alright lets get out of here.

Isiac looks over at Rampel "I'll go start the car, I'll have her running my the time Mr. Stein gets onto sidewalk. Will you be okay escorting him outside?" he glimpses over at the guard "he's had an exiting day" he half whispers, before deciding not to risk standing around for answers and leaving, fast, for the car outside.

ooc:want a roll of some kind? Also, welcome back Roselite. Or is it Eikyu now?

Mr. Rebner waves happily as the group leaves, feeling strangely renewed. The little girl was a joy to talk to, so full of questions and eager to learn. That Mr. Stein sure is a lucky grandfather. Now... he notices something out of place. Where is his partner?

Outside, Rampel practically skips around to the driver's side, forcing Isiac into the back and leaping into the seat. Her eyes glitter maniacally.

"Everyone in, now!"

The doors have barely closed when she whips the car into the road, but slows down a moment later as they pass a police car, with two officers attempting to wrestle a half-naked security guard to the ground. He seems to be screaming something about monsters...

"So, what do you make of the tablet? Can you tell what it says?"

She maneuvers onto the freeway, speeding off towards the East Side.

OoC: >> For whoever has the tablet now: Its smoothed stone surface is covered in large geometric figure engravings, but close inspection reveals much smaller indentations within the larger images, like labels in a diagram. Some of the shapes spark buried memories, and you recall the feeling of being lifted out of the Abyss. Unless you know ancient Meso-american languages, though, it is not readable.
For everyone else, you're in the clear, and can freely discuss how it went. And though you don't know it, things could have gone badly back there...

Hamael took a casual, yet hurried jog to the car and climbed into the front passenger seat. "That was certainly anticlimatic" Hamael mused as he checked his pockets, then found his lighter, but no cigarettes, "aw hell. Anyone in here have a square? I'm good for it." He looked over his shoulder into the back seat of the car at the prize, the tablet. "You know" he says with a smile, "if you can't read, I'm sure I can probably ring somebody up who can read that chicken scratch. Might take a little time though. Assuming you can't read it yourself, of course."

ooc:Would Translate work? It only references speaking, and doesn't say one way or another...
PostPosted: Wed Apr 23, 2008 8:32 pm

OoC: >> Translate is meant to be used on people, rather than objects, but I'll allow it if Isiac can find an imaginative way to "channel" the stone-carvers and their intentions in writing it. You'll have to roll against a difficulty of 8, though, and I'm afraid the tablet's contents is pretty extensive. It will require some in-depth time to fully puzzle it all out. If you do roll, and succeed, check the Out of Character Thread to see what the tablet says. <<

"Perhaps we could take it to a university", suggests Ambriel, "I don't know anyone in language studies, particularly of this variety. But I am rather well known in certain academic circles, more importantly, I know them well. I hope that doesn't sound too arrogant. Though, I'm certain that any respectable institution with a decent Anthropology or Language department would jump at the chance to study this ancient thing." As he says this he points to the tablet.

Issiac nods, quickly flashing Ambriel a thankfull smile "If we can get someone to read this, I can tell you what it says. But I can't read it."

OoC: >> Sorry about the delay; Final Exams are over now! <<

In the rear-view mirror, you can see Rampel's eyes grow less manic. Her voice is steady once more.

"Very well. I will trust you all to find the appropriate contacts for the translation. Of course, they should either be exceedingly trustworthy, or else very expendable; we must keep this knowledge to ourselves. I'm afraid it could be a valuable target to some of the other Elohim that have been freed in recent months."

She reaches across the console to open the glove box, pulling out a plastic shopping bag with a Radioshack logo on it. She passes it to the back. Within, you find four cell phones, of the type designed for children and sheltered teenagers. Each phone is a bright orange, with speed-dial buttons instead of a number pad.

"They are a little more conspicuous than I'd like, but they will serve. I'd like us to avoid using one another's Names to communicate if at all possible, as I suspect some of those still in the Pit have developed ways to eavesdrop. These phones also have the benefit of letting us locate one another in emergencies. Each one is programmed with the numbers of the other four. The button shaped like a little house," she chuckles ruefully at the way mortals underestimate their offspring, "will call me, though I may not be available for a week or two; there are other matters I must attend to. For that time, you are free to do as you like. Within reason, of course."

OoC: >> In case you didn't know, a character can focus on a Demon's Celestial Name and call it aloud to make telepathic contact with them at any distance. However, Rampel seems to frown on this practice. You can assume that Rampel will drop you off wherever you would like to go at this point. Your characters will have a week or two to themselves, so the next question is: Where would you all (together, or separately) like to go? <<

After a few minutes of silence, Isiac sighs.
"Well, I guess I do know someone who'd be able to translate this, or learn how to, or find someone who can. Or at least can read it..."
He leans forward, giving the driver the address of a bookshop.

"I'll get back to you all, once I know what it says"

Hamael said nothing to Rampel until there was a good corner for him to stop off at and said, "Here's good, cabbie." He took the phone and egressed the cab quickly. As soon as the little bootlicker drove off, the wheels in the Demons mind began turning. That tablet would have to be handled, along with that toady. Rampel was the higher priority of the two, as she had his True Name. He had to turn the tables on her and fast. He took out his BlackBerry and made a call.

"Hello? Yes. No, I'll be ready for depositions tomorrow. What I need from you is to get a list together of P.I.s for me. No, it's not for the case, its for some pro bono work I'm helping with, part of community service. Have it ready when I get there. Thanks. Good-bye."

"We've played your game long enough" he thought, "now you're going to play mine."
