strategic yes, but I'm still voting that the character design team is filled with perverts.

William Sstrider Actually if you keep fran with a bow she can be a GREAt asset to your team. Becuase the bow and arrows have the most status effects. Serious I have like one arrow for poisen one for oil and so on. Also the arrows have alot of elements like i have fire arrows thunder arrows. So if you use her right she can be a great help. From what ive seen shes a character who has some of the most stratigic value. But you can also give bows to other characters...

Yeah but why bother Fran starts with the bow what would be the point of starting another charater with a weapon someone already can use.

Because other characters can use is better =O (please forgive my grammer =_= wink .
Srsly, just because a character starts out with a weapon, it's not their best. If you look at the weapons and how they work, you find that Ashe is best with weapons like katanas (not what she starts with), Penolo is best with staffs (not what she starts with), and Balthier actually gets a penatly for using a gun (he's best with poles).

Well I used her just as much as all my party. (I rotated them out everytime they leveled and work out the next guy to a level up and so one.) and I didn't see her being weaker at all. And Seriously Balthier has a penelty for useing guns? I only had him useing guns and he was doing the most damage out of my party.

Mmm, Balthier, Fran and Penelo all get a .02 reduction in speed when they use guns. The only time I can ever see that being a problem, however, is if you're trying to fight one of the final extra bosses, and even then it wouldn't matter much (I myself give Balthier a gun, although this might have more to do with his sexy stance when firing).
As for the best weapon/fighting style for each character... I think it's the kinda thing that would be helpful to consider if you were fighting a hard boss, but not the sort of thing that would prevent you from completing the story or most of the missions.

Yeah I had equipped my party with a different weapon type each and I never got a game over. Except against the mandagoras but that was becuase I had never bought any new armor for my team throughout the entire game. After I got new armor I was undefeatable.

Blaugh, I was always too lazy to actually look up what weapons had what effects and were best on whom, so I just grabbed the stuff with the highest stats and never really had a problem. If it gets too technical, it's no fun.

xd I think it gets fun when it's technical. I mean, I hate it when it's so dependant on strategy that you can't just smash your way through, but I like looking up stats and trying to figure out exactly what to equip whom with and which spell/tech to teach whomever.

Hah, to an extent, but when it goes too far, I feel like I have to make charts and pro/con lists and color code everything and so on to figure out what's best... That's a slight exaggeration, but I prefer the kind of strategy you find with something like materia, where it's more cleverness and ideas than math.
Besides, it's a lot more interesting when you can manipulate things to get completely different effects as opposed to boring, slight stat increases.
