What I learned from Doctor who?
That an MRI machine, set high enough, actually can fry the brain stems of people up to tens of thousands of miles away.

Because, he was the last other time lord! Wouldn't you cry if all the humans were gone and you'd been hanging out with a bunch of stupid apes and other alien species for a century and you saw the last other human die? Besides, the doc hates death anyway.
