Yeah, I've looked it up. You need a licence, and to get that you have to prove you're using it for industrial purposes. I guess it's hard to tell the harmless stuff apart from the drug, and it's more likely for someone of my age to be growing it for the bud. :/

Makes sense. And if you were going to go through all the trouble of getting licenses and what not, you'd be growing it on a massive scale, which is not what you are thinking for a personal herb garden.
Where I live, everyone and their grandmother grows marijuana. If I had a hemp plant, I wouldn't think twice about it, the authorities are too busy worried about the criminal grow-ops, not the teenager with a plant and a hot light in the closet. But that's Canada, for you.

My basils died. I don't think they liked the winter, or the being inside. sad

I've still got the parsleys though, they seem fairly happy. (Although I've got a slowly growing hatred for aphids...)

I want to grow sage - which reminds me, my girlfriend offered to trade some sage for parsley (because it's more fun that way), but neither of us know how to make cuttings, or how to make sure they don't die when cut.

Aaand... I don't know what else to grow. Possibly more basil, that smelt nice. I've always wanted to grow tobacco and hemp, but that's a bit awkward to deal with the legalities...

I'm sorry your basils died. I'm guessing you live in the U.S? I honestly don't think that growing tobacco and hemp is worth the trouble it would cost you.

England. Yeah, it's a complete hassle, it's sad, I think I'll pass on the hemp, but at least tobacco is legal to grow. I'll learn how to make cigars or something.

Now to figure out what else, aside from sage, I want to grow.

Is pot legal in Canada?

Monster informational post

Technically, no.
Cannabis is grown by the government for medical use, however. And even my own mother has medication that is a synthetic medical marijuana (The active ingredient of Marinol is synthetic THC, which is the main psychoactive substance found in the Cannabis plant)

It almost was legal, but it was killed late in the process, mostly because of worries of the USA would say. Understandable, since they are such an important trading partner. At the same time, by decriminalizing pot, it would put the gangsters out of business, the same way ending prohibition ended the careers of the Bootleggers. The RCMP are way out of their league trying to prevent, find, and take down all the Grow-ops. The criminal aspect of the pot industry is a cancer in British Columbia. So if you have a small amount in your home or person, the police just don't care, you probably won't even get a fine. They have too much to do with hardcore criminals. I think it is inevitable one day that it will be decriminalized, its use is so socially acceptable, and we can see the benefits. What we are doing now isn't working, the general consensus is; it's time for a change of tactics

I'm not a pot user, I've never even tried it. But I do not have a single friend who hasn't tried it at least twice and there are quite a few whom are habitual users. I know people who grow a plant in the closet or in the back yard and it's common knowledge (the criminal aspect removed, there is an underground of people who propagate & give seeds to others for personal use). I don't believe the bullshit that it is a gateway drug. Not one of those people went on to hardcore drugs.

Is has become so entrenched in our culture (in this province), I know so much about the politics and laws, and how to make special brownies so they actually work, even though I have no intention of ever using it. xd I donno. I have no problem with pot use, personally. What people do on their own time is their business. So long as they don't get behind a wheel, or go to work high, I could care less. And if I thought pot would be the best thing for a potion, I would obtain some. I still wouldn't actually use it... but then, I don't smoke. cigarettes either and consume very little alcohol.

But I do like the one saying: No one smokes a joint then comes home to beat their wife.

~~~
It is legal to grow your own tobacco in Canada. Only rules: Household use only (you can't sell it), no one under 18 will use it, you only grow 15kg for each user. Yay google!
Wow you learn something new everyday. The only place I know of where pot is legal is california. You can smoke and I think grow it if you only smoke on your own property.
I didn't know that. I thought that pot was illegal everywhere in the US. As you said, learn something new everyday.
Aloe is awesome. Sometimes when my fish are doing very well, I just squeeze from fresh aloe into the tank, and they are right as rain
and Kir Chan, I didn`t know that either! I love picking up new tid-bits whee
Yep. pot is legal is California to smoke on your own property. I didn't know it was illegal in England though.
On a different note. I had some Pumpkin seeds ( I know its not herbs) but I'm trying something new. I'm calling it hydro growing. I"m growing them just in water. So far their doing pretty good.
So sadly my pumpkin seeds died. They were sprouting but then died. So I'm done with hydro growing. I'm also having some trouble with my roses. Hopefully they'll last through winter.
Another little tidbit. I've recently found out that in Las vegas Nevada, USA, that rosemary grows every where. It rained the other day and smelled great!
I've decided to add an herb of the week. So since Rosemary is everyone here, I decided to give it its credit.
Someone went around giving the magical shops around here rosemary. It was cute finding it all with the same story from each shopkeeper.
I've decided on growing mint for slightly pointless reasons. 3nodding
"Mint's good for a dodgy stomach."
"I can't have a mojito now, you've used up all the mint."
"Oh my god, you're actually made of mint!"
-steals mint sauce-
"But you're minted!"
"Have you noticed how much we've talked about mint in the last couple of days?"
Mint is great. Most of my herb garden (currently hibernating xD) is mint, both spear- and pepper- ...it really takes over fast! xD
I'm sorry I haven't been on for a while. So this thread has slowed. I've been extreamly busy the past month but I'll try to come on more.
Hmm. The roots probably didn't have sufficient aeration. Pumpkins aren't exactly aquatic-adapted plants. I bet if you transfered them to soil right after germinating you'd have ended up with some healthy plants!
