Sappy The day before winter break there was this kid who brought his guitar and played it during lunch. It was a cheap looking acoutic guitar and all the kid played were basic chords. And he was all looking around to see if anyone was listening or looking and no one was, so i started laughing. My friend told me to show him off but i decided not too because it was too loud and i didn't want to do that to him. . Be carefull. I do the same thing simply because I like playing chords to listen to the melody, and i've had more then one shred monkey try to show me up; that's when I start ripping out some SRV, and Albert King riffs and make them look like retards. I hate it though when people come up to me and start requesting songs. It seems like it's always Metallica, which I can actually play most of their more popular songs (I learned them to study their soloing, and give me ideas) so I always just tell them, "Naw, I hate Metallica." That's when they usually get all pissed off, and tell me that I suck. Even though when I play at lunch I'm sitting off in one of the corners of the courtyard by myself, and I don't ask them to come over and critique my guitar playing. It's gotten to the point that when I see somebody that I don't know start walking toward me, I just stop playing, put the guitar down next to me, and ignore them until they go away.

I went through that. But instead of not playing I would just play some boring scales. that way I'm still being active and they get bored and leave. If they asked for songs I would just say " Oh I don't really know any songs- only scales." LOL they would believe it EVERY TIME!

W/E I'm going to gget the Buddy Guy Strat just because I like the polka dots. since i'm fourteen and work at a bakery, and have no bills to pay I mind as well spend 700 on a guitar.

Or... start saving for a car???? But the Buddy Guy signature Strat is TIGHT, it's a peice of blues history, although most people would confuse it with the Avril Lavigne signature Tele.

there is this one guy who everyday comes to my lunch table with guitar and amp and just plays the intro to stairway to heaven and then switches to fade to black's intro. so one day me and my friend ryan who is the rythem player for my band set up a guitar duel in the lunch room. we ask the guy to come over and play for us and then finally ryan pulls out his guitar and plays the main solo for one and i play a bit of evil eye by malmsteen. and we just duel each other and the guy who shows off at lunch is just staring at us with his jaw on the ground.
i'm still working on fully learning evil eye.

Why even bother? If the kid sucks, everybody will know anyways because he's going to exhaust all of his material within a couple of minutes, and have to quit. So why waste your time?

You guys having a guitar duel is awesome but why do it to look better than a guy who people will get sick of right away

Well Stairway's intro does look impressive to a person who doesn't know howto play. and Fade to Balck solo can look good. bgut again thats going from a nooby's persepective. One owns all of them though, if he really wants to look good do the solo to Stairway, that's often regarded as the best ever.
