It is strange, how things can suddenly go terribly wrong. For it was at that precise moment that the demon, who had been silently tracking Rafael, got sight of the coven leader and the mortals. Insects swarmed the place and the demons nails and claws gripped the drain pipe tightly. The demon was hanging upside-down on one of the roofs of the nearby alley on which they stood.
"The little tastiessss, they have it!" he said excitedly. "Sundavar thought it wassss lost, losssst, but they hasss it, the human and one of the suckersss! They hasss...the key!" He laughed, strange gasping noises ensuing from his throat.
"The key to openssss....the Crossroads! They were wrong, wrong to closesss it, earth-beingsss and uss don't mix, they saysss. But with the key, we shall have power, yes, power to go from this world to the other without barrierssss!"
And with that, the young professor and the coven leader caught the demons eye.

"What...is...that?!" Kamiru was frozen in place, he had dropped his suitcase, and he wanted to run for his life. And yet, Kamiru couldn't get his legs to move. He stared at the demon, not knowing what to expect. His arm seemed to move of its own accord though, and pulled out the pendant, showing it to the demon. "This is what you're after, right?" Kamiru said, not sure what to do. And then he regained control of his legs. "If you want this, you'll have to take it from me first!" Kamiru shouted, picking up his bag and running as fast as he could. I have no idea where I'm going, or what I'm doing, but it's like I knew he wanted the pendant...how did I know that, though? Kamiru thought to himself as he ran.

Jadelyn smiled as she returned to her building a few hours after nightfall. The night was good, her hunger was sated thanks to a willing young boy on his way to the clubs and it seemed like the delivery men had already been buy to drop her furniture off.
She opened the windows downstairs, letting the night breeze clear out some of the dust and stale air. Kicking her shoes off in the middle of the bare floor, she walked upstairs, looking at her now furnished loft. The rooms still felt large and bare-minimalistic. The living room was red and silver, accented by the black velvet drapes that were hanging in front of all the windows of the loft. She moved to her bedroom, lush greens meeting her eyes. The only furniture in the room was a large bed and matching dresser. Pillows were thrown in the corners of the room for lounging and her art books were stacked in a pile against the wall.
"Feels a bit more like home.." She smiled, not bothering to glance into the kitchen or the bathroom, instead she grabbed her stereo and took it downstairs. Setting it in the window out of the way she turned to survey the large room that took up almost the entire downstairs. "I suppose I should at least make the studio a bit more welcoming for company" she said to the empty air. Turning on her Mediaeval Babes CD, she opened the front door and began sweeping out the area that would soon be her tattoo parlor, trying to keep herself from wondering when she would see Kamiru again.

The demon laughed in delight as he watched the young professor run away. "Run run run, yessssss, that what the yummiessss know bessst!" he shrieked. The demon swiftly glided after the mortal, laughing and hissing all the way.
They came across an empty park. The trees hung ominously over them, their branches creaking in the wind. No one else was in sight. The demon cornered his prey. Flies began swarming everywhere, covering the demon, and landing on Kamiru's face, neck and arms.
The demon licked at the pendant that hung around Kamiru's neck. "Yes, this issss it, Sundavar remembersss the tasste, for he hasss tasted it before! It is Leona's piece, yesss it iss, but tell me, how did young human get it?"
The air frosted over, nature protesting the demon's presence. He gripped tighly at his prey's neck, awaiting an answer.

Lucius led his team back to their coven house. The coven house was secretly situated inside an abandoned church. Since the demon's attacks, they had been forced to leave the comfort of their opulent mansion. Instead, they now had to live like rats, scurrying for their hiding place whenever any strangers came near.
People pretty much left the church alone, rumours about it being filled with evil spirits had spread around the place. It was there that the lonely coven made its final sanctuary.

"Look...I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about..." Kamiru said, gasping for breath. "I was given this by a co-worker. I don't know where he got it, he just gave it to me...but I sure wish I knew how it worked right about now..." Kamiru finished, barely able to breathe. Now of all times would be nice for this thing to do something...I'm just human. If you had asked me yesterday if I believed in demons, I would have said no...but this...this just completely proves me wrong, doesn't it... At that thought, the pendant began to glow, and it blasted the demon fifteen feet away. "Well...I'll take that as a chance to run away..." Kamiru said, turning and running back to where he dropped his suitcase, and then running to Jadelyn's house. As he arrived, he explained what had happened to Jadelyn. "I can't say I know what just happened. If I said that, I'd be lying..." Kamiru said, catching his breath. "But apparently, someone wants this, and for a very bad reason."

Karan loomed over Kamiu his eyes fixed on the magnificent pendant. What glorious power... he thought to himself. Gliding closer to a point where he was right over the shoulder of the trembling Kamiu, he noticed it grew brighter as his ghostly fingertip ran across the gem.

Kamiru jumped, feeling something over his shoulder, and sees a ghost hand touching his pendant. "A...A...A GHOST?! Jadelyn....you didn't say anything about ghosts...today has been the weirdest day of my life, by far...I want to know what's going on...first a demon...and now ghosts...I think I'm gonna be sick..." Kamiru quickly ran outside, and threw up, passing through Karan as he went, making him feel even worse.

Following, Karan diverted his vision from Kamiru's lunch (which was now all over the floor) and laid back in the air, as if there was a very comfy chair behind him. After Kamiru had finished, Karan floated down and held a translucent hand out saying "Let me see it..."

"Why do you want to? What's in it for you, you're dead! It's not like you can get anywhere with it anyway..." Kamiru said, trying his best not to panic. Then something seemed to dawn on him. "You look as if you are still a teen. You died...when you were a kid. What happened to you? How did you die? No one deserves to die so young..." Kamiru actually felt a pang of sadness and guilt. "I'm sorry I ran away from you like that, I bet you get that often. So...how did it happen? And when did it happen?"

Rafael awoke in the still-light seconds after twilight. He stretched cat-like as he stood and opened his curtains to the sliver of moon in the sky and the streetlights that blinked on street-by-street in the growing darkness. The neon lights of downtown beckoned with their cold, blinking light while the deep shadows of the south side reached for him with tendrils of unlight. He dressed quickly, digging a pair of leather pants, a black and purple mesh shirt, and his favorite knee-high boots from his closet, grabbing his jacket and checking to make sure he had all of his knives before he locked the door and trotted down the stairs.
Last night's encounter with the demon had made him more than just a little paranoid, but he reached the neon glow of downtown without any problems. It would be easy to find a meal here; it always had been, but he didn't stay for long. A part of him wanted to find the demon, but the other part of him wanted to keep moving so the demon would not find him.
He wandered through the streets, moving easily within the crowd, his eyes watchful for anyone familiar; the mortal boy from the bar or any of the coven, in particular. He could easily find any of them with his mind, but he was not sure yet that he wanted any of their company just now.

The broom fell out of Jadelyn's hand and to the floor as Kamiru came running in through the open door. Her eyes widened slightly as he told his tale, arms crossing over her chest. It wasn't even until Kamiru mentioned something that she noticed the other being in their presence. She frowned and raised on hand to pinch the bridge of her nose.
I've got to stop getting so distracted by this boy..what the hell is wrong with me? She thought as Kamiru rushed outside to be sick. She stayed silent as he asked the other boy questions, walking quickly to shut the front door. Arching a brow, Jadelyn walked to Kamiru's side and gently placed a hand on his arm, attempting to guide him upstairs. She glanced at Karan who was lounging in the air, eyes flashing briefly.
"I am not that fond of uninvited guests. Care to explain why you're lounging in my building?"
She cast a concerned look Kamiru's way, realizing that she was probably going to have to explain a lot more than she wished to at this time once they reached the saftey of her apartment upstairs.

"Since when does a ghost need permission to go where he pleases?" Karan spat at the woman. "But, I suppose you deserve some information..." Coming down to the level where he was eye level with them, Karan cleared his throat and calmy said "That pendant has another power; I can feel it. And other ghosts know this as well...it gives us flesh and blood again."

"The ghost needs permission when it is my space he is invading. Simple courtesy is a splendid thing. Or did death cause you to lose all notion of manners?" Jadelyn moved to place herself in between the ghost and Kamiru, her small frame not really hiding Kamiru.
I should have taken the bloody pendant when he offered it to me.. she thought as she glared up at Karan, her voice losing some of its edge. "And you wish to be whole again? Is that it? And you think that whatever else is after this thing is just going to let you have it?"

"Well, I don't know about giving you the pendant..." Kamiru said, finally able to stand again. "But maybe you can be changed back without keeping it. Is that possible?" He looked at the ghost, not knowing what to expect. Well, if I could get the thing to work back there with the demon, maybe I can get it to work now, too. What was I thinking then? I wasn thinking about how a day ago I wouldn't have believed any of this.... It began to glow again, and the pendant blasted Karan in the chest, surrounding him with light. Hey, I think I've got a hang of this thing... Kamiru thought to himself, waiting to see what happened to Karan next.
