Amairis sat, back rested against the canyon wall behind her. She'd moved her guitar from her back to her lap moments before, and now carefully twisted the knobs at the end of the neck--tuning the instrument carefully in the moments she had left. A few more delicate adjustments, and she strummed a chord gently, causing the faintly glowing streams of magic round her to swirl and throb pleasantly in response. She closed her eyes to relish the sound, a smile touching her lips.
Perfect.
Her eyes opened again just in time to catch Dream's landing. So absorbed had she been in her task, she'd near missed the fantastic sight of him plummeting from the sky. Of course, the impossibly thick mist around him hadn't helped. His dive had looked more like a cloud gone on an insane rampage than a man jumping off a cliff.
She twisted her guitar back around to her back and rose to her feet, grinning.
"Well 'ello Dream!" she called cheerily, strolling out towards him.
"Came all this way just to see me, did you?"

Dream looked at the one who had spoken to him, the one who had already known his name. He blinked, shook his head, and looked again. It couldn't be...

He lowered his weapons, but kept them in an easy position to use, and smiled at her. "Or maybe you came all this way to see me." He walked over to her, stopping about ten feet from her. "In any case, I was expecting my fighting competition to be a bit more... prepared for battle... but if I remember correctly, you can be clever with anything. I am honored to have you as my rival." He sheathed his rod temporarily, holding just the blue beam saber. "Now, then, I assume you know why you're here. Shall we begin?"

Amairis couldn't help but chuckle. Clever with anything? Oh no...she had her own share of shortcomings.
Of course, she felt neither the desire nor the obligation to tell him so. Wasn't it usually the tradition to talk yourself up (or your opponent down) during a battle? Waste of breath though it was, a bit of banter could make things so much fun.
At his final question, she nodded and flashed him a bright smile.
"Oh yes, let's!"
She set herself in a proper stance and, with great flourish, produced from her pocket a paintbrush. She positioned this straight before her, as though it were a saber or rapier that she held before her rather than an artist's tool.
"En guarde!" she shouted the words with playful authority.

Dream nodded, knowing that no matter what she used, she would be unexpectingly good at using it in unusual, effective ways. He would take no chances here. He took his own blue saber, and held it in a stace that exactly mirrored hers. "Yes, En Guarde." He smiled. Time to do this.

He began by using only the saber, it was not yet time to get complicated. He dashed at her, appearing to come in one direction, but then spun on a point right before her. He held his saber out on the spin, so it would slash in the opposite direction that was expected. While he spun, he whistled randomly. It was, he had found, a good distraction to the opponent.

As soon as Dream began his attack, Amairis slipped out of the fighting stance, placing her feet together again.
Honestly, she'd only used the stance for dramatic effect.
She flicked her paintbrush up as he rushed towards her and, with a fast, sweeping movement, drew a circle in the air before her. The shape glowed violet for barely an instant. Then, just moments before Dream's saber came in contact with her unprotected face, she pressed the wooden end of her brush against the circle and shattered the space within its outline.
Her hope was that Dream's speed, momentum, and proximity to the hole would carry him directly into the white abyss her portal opened into. The abyss wouldn't actually hurt him, and she'd have to eventually let him out, of course; but it had at least delayed her decapitation.
Funny...was it just her imagination, or did she hear him whistling?

Luckilly for Dream, he was spinning on a single point, and therefore would not move towards the abyss. Unfortunately, his saber struck at the point where she had formed it, and the blade vanished into the hole. He quickly jumped to the side, away from her, and examined it. There was nothing left of it except for the hilt and about 3 inches of blade. He was right, she was clever.

Rolling his eyes, he tried a new maneuver. He dased at her again, but instead of going at her, he moved to the side and jumped onto a rock near the canyon wall. From there, he quickly climed from rock to rock, eventually getting high enough to put his plan into action. He smiled, and threw what was left of his saber at Amairis, as if it were a shruiken. Right after that, he kicked down hard on the loose rock he was on; it broke off, and he jumped to another rock nearby, watching to see how the plan would take effect.

Though rather disappointed that Dream hadn't fallen all the way in, she brushed her annoyance aside in time to react to the latest threat.
Broken saber in the air, a small avalanche of rocks coming by ground....she went for the only shelter she had.
Without a moment more of hesitation, she stepped sideways into her white abyss.

It took her a moment to adjust to the lack of...well, anything. Apparently there were gases necessary to sustain human life present. Otherwise she would have died by now. But besides that, there was just a great, white, boundless expanse. As she cast an awed gaze about the area, a bit of blue glinted on the edges of her vision. She turned towards it, a short laugh escaping her mouth when she identified the source of the glint.
It was the rest of Dream's broken blade.
Grinning, she drifted towards it. She stopped just a foot away and bent to study it, reaching out a hand as though to touch the beam and confirm its reality. She quickly rethought the wisdom of this choice, pulling her hand back again...and then paused. Smile broadening, she moved her paintbrush in deft strokes around the blade end nearest her. Another few moments, and she'd painted the blade a hilt.
She waited for the violet flash that would show it had solidified, and then lifted the saber. It seemed usable enough. She tried a few practice strokes, slashing and whirling to get the jist of the thing. It was smaller than Dream's original weapon, for sure, but it was still perfectly effective.
With a small smirk, she painted another circle in the air before her. Backing up a bit to get a good start, she suddenly burst forward and smashed through her newest portal to emerge directly behind the likely perplexed Dream-- swinging the saber in a deadly arch towards her foe.

Kallisto walked through the foliage, flexing her blue paws in anticipation. Her tail was tossing back and forth and her nose was searching for any scent.
This was her first battle and she wanted to do well... Or at least go out with a bang.
Her blue ears twitched at a noise from the brush and she took off after it.
Maybe she was a little to excited, running into an attack like that, but she was sure of herself and she leaped at her opponent fangs bared and claws outstretched.
"Defend yourself!" she cried.

Dream sighed as he saw that his attack had completely failed; Amairis had jumped right into the abyss meant for him. Apparently it was safe enough to be in. Jumping back down, he looked around for any sign of the remains of his Beam Saber. It was, of course, right where Amairis had vanished. His aim had been good, only his adversary had been too smart. Picking up his saber hilt, he sighed happily. She was a formidable opponent.

He heard a small smash in the air behhind him, as if a thin panel of glass had shattered. Confused, he quickly turned around to see his own blade, with a new hilt, swinging at him. He automatically raised his own to deflect it... only it wasn't there anymore. However, the couple of inches of remaining blade on his part collided with the rest of it now held by Amairis. They fused together again - they were the same plasma blade, after all - and formed a very odd-looking weapon with two hilts, one held by Dream and the other held by Amairis, and a blade bent near Dream's hilt at about a 90 degree angle. He blinked; he had not quite expected that. He held onto his side of the blade with his left hand as he drew his rod with his right.

Amairis was as surprised as her foe at this most recent development. She hadn't thought the blade would do that...
She frowned. How was she supposed to use the weapon properly if Dream was holding onto it? She saw him draw out his star rod, and thought fast. She didn't want to just stand there in it's path. Nor did she want to release the beam saber and give Dream full control of both of his weapons.
A figurative light bulb flicked on in cartoon fashion above her head.
She flicked out with her paintbrush and, and few swift strokes later, was holding on to the star rod's new second handle. She grinned cheekily at him. She’d done it!
Now neither of them could move properly.
The thought gave her a small swell of pride.
However, the fight did have to continue. With a sudden push, she twisted the beam saber blade as roughly as she could towards Dream’s head.

Dream grinned as she drew the handle. Sure, it was a major inconvinience, but what was a fight without a little enjoyment? You had to be able to laugh in the face of defeat. Even when you choose not to be defeated.

Instead of resisting Amairis's attack, he allowed her to push it towards him. He ducked under it, and twisted the star rod in the same fasion, except towards her other hand. Hopefully, she would let go of one or the other. While he did this, he used the rod's attacking power - a blast of light from the tip. However, the charge never left the rod. Instead, tt transmitted directly into its new handle, which would probably continue on directly into Amairis. Now there was another factor which might force her to drop it.

Amairis saw both the swinging star rod and the transfer of energy. Her sense of self-preservation overcoming her stubborness, she released the rod's hilt. However, she didn't linger in the same spot for long. Keeping a firm grip on her portion of the saber, she turned backwards around Dream's left side. When they were back to back and the charge in the rod's hilt had died down, she took ahold of the hilt again. She then threw her weight forward, bending down and pulling on both the handles she held in a move that, if effective, would either yank the handles from Dream's grip or pull him over her back and dump him on the ground.

The latter worked; Dream, completely surprised at her sudden maneuver, was thrown over her back. He landed on his back on the ground, still somehow holding both weapons. The crystilline cloak he wore cushioned his fall, though. He had forgotten he had it on. Smiling and unharmed, he pulled down on both weapons and, still on the ground, aimed a kick at each of her hands. The combined force of his pull and the kicks would probably cause some damage. At least, that was what he was hoping for.

Had the kick found its target, it probably would have managed to dislodge her grip. However, when yanked downwards, she moved her hands from the line of attack.
This wasn't an evasive maneuver. It was just her flailing about wildly and haplessly in a futile attempt to regain her balance. Had she been aware of the fact that she'd avoided such a retaliation from her opponent, she would have been rather proud of herself. As it was, she wasn't aware of much besides the fact that she was losing her battle to remain upright. Finally losing her footing, she toppled forward with an undignified squeal. It wasn't until she'd fallen about half of the way down that she regained her presence of mind enough to work with the fall-- driving her knee towards Dream's stomach.

The stage is set.
DG quickly raised the blade in his left hand to so that she would bite it and her claws stopped right against it.
"Try something a little more quietly and you may have me surprised," He said to his opponent smugly. He threw her aside and got back into his stance waiting for her next move. He realized at that moment that he didn't break the coconuts completely. He kicked one into the air and sliced it with his sword to spread the scent of coconuts into the air and onto himself. He kicked the other coconut into the air and hit it with his sword like a bat directly at her. While she would be distracted, he ran away into a thicker part of the small island forest. He shot down coconuts as he went by to disperse the scent everywhere.
