Serena had been smiling as the winged horse took a leisurely pace into the forest. However, she was snapped out of her calm moment of thought at a neighing of a horse and a yell soon after. She turned about to spot a horse and man racing towards her. Fear seized her heart and she froze on the back of her steed. She could not fight, and if it came down to a scuffle, she would easily be overtaken. She didn't even have to speak, the mount seemed to sense her fear.

Unfortunately for her, the horse she road on was a very proud creature. It was something that winged horses were known for. Rather than carrying her to safety, he turned about and stomped his hoof in a stubborn stand against those who approached. He reared up, spreading his wings wide in a threatening stance. Serena had to grasp his mane quickly and clung to the large creature just to stay on. Her sapphire eyes stared in fear as she stared at her chasers. Her pale blonde hair fell about her slender body, covering most of her face from view.

She quickly stuffed the necklace under her dress, not wanting to show such an item openly. One could never be too careful. She had witnessed enough of humans culture to know that such a fine piece of jewelry was enough to get killed over. She gripped the animal in terror, hoping every minute that it would take to the skies once more. Unfortunately, it was not meant to carry two, and thus it struggled to fly with her on his back. He would either have to run, or stand their ground.

She almost fell over when the steed lunged forward, now charging the oncomers. Why had she accepted a ride from such a stubborn creature. Ironic, though, as she was very much like this animal. She had a stubborn streak to her, so of course she would have the luck to be picked up by a horse that was as stubborn as her. He ran, full speed and head on, not looking as though he would give way to them.

??????? ????????
Current Day

As Kai charged through the underbrush, they both seemed to notice that the blurring white flash was coming towards them, and it was gaining shape and form... was it...a Pegasus? That was all he could think of it being since it had some nice wing spread, that seemed to urge it more into a ramming situation.... One thing drew to mind, were Pegasus actually hostile creatures? He only knew what he had heard from, and if this creature was coming at him with hostility, then his one thought was perhaps the person on top...wow his eyes caught a glimpse of her, such radiance and beauty, but no more thoughts formed for the other took over once more... the person on top just might very well be one of those witches who was trying to kill the fallen star. Sure they were next to the crater so it could be the star herself, but someone so aggressive, he couldn't place his finger on it being the lady. So with that thought he was not willing to back down. This thing wanted a show down it would get it!

"Kai faster!" He urged her, and she obeyed, she went head on into battles all the time, this was not new to her, she was ready for impact if need be, she already had a few fine scuff marks across her forelegs from swords and bow wounds. However this fiend was not that of a normal creature, it seemed to be overwhelming with its wings that he knew Kai had a bad feeling about it. Self doubt was utterly intolerable, if she could not stand her ground, he would not be able to stand his ground, so he did the one thing he could do.

Quickly he pulled her reins hard, and forced her to take a hard right, meanwhile, he lifted his right leg, and as she started to break towards the right, he flung himself hard off the horse to his left. A daring move, he wanted to land on the ground flawlessly, and be ready to attack all on his own, he knew he could trust his own skill and would hold no doubt. However, he misjudged his tumbling skills...quite overshot it actually.

Crash, cling, thud... The world was one vibrant playing field of green and white. He had landed hard on the ground with his left side biting down on the ground, causing the rather loud crash. Then because of his rather loud momentum, he could not stop himself quite yet from rolling, his back flung hard to the ground, where a harsh clinging sound could be heard as his sword hilt dug into his back. Excess pain struck through him, and as he rolled over it was more of a instant reaction to pain that he bent his knees, which in turn actually kind of saved his butt as so to say, for it gave him enough force to apply a break. Ouch his knee sure felt the pain though, but he couldn't stop the flow of movement fully just yet, he took all the bashing just so he could set himself up for an attack, and so when he came to his knees, he allowed himself to turn a little more and brought his other leg up. Once he fully rotated around once more, his foot was in place to touch ground and push himself up.

Quite a lot of effort, and quite a lot of pain, but he was standing, and still in a keen thought of being okay, he drew his broad sword just in case, while he raised his left hand in a stopping manner.
"Stop! I am..." he was perfectly fine...right?..." I am Prince..." his voice was still loud as if he was in great condition...yet... it hit him, he was in state of shock, his body had experienced quite a lot of damage. "Prince Zi..." his sword fell to the ground, and he started to buckle downwards, "ren..." Thud...his body collapsed to the floor backwards, purely spent for the day, however he was still wide awake, which currently he wished he wasn't, but how could one walk off the pain if they were knocked out? So he could only await his oncoming doom, and hoped his stunt didn't cost him his life.

Serena was clutching the creature she rode furiously just to stay on as it barrelled through the forest towards the horse and its rider. She tried to urge the horse to stop, but he would not listen to her. Perhaps something about her fear had awoken a protective nature in this creature, but she sensed his own stubborn nature as well, which meant it wasn't entirely her fault.

She watched in horror as the man tried a rather odd maneuver, and actually cringed when he went crashing to the ground. The pegasus slowed as he watched this stunt as well, now no more than trotting along. Apparently he lost all will to charge the rather unlucky man. Serena was able to sit up straight, which made her look rather elegant and even noble. However, the look of utter horror on her face was less than noble. She heard the man say something, though she couldn't quite understand the words well. Did he say Prince? He did indeed.

When he fell over altogether, Serena leapt off the horse, falling to the ground with a soft thud. She had momentarily forgotten about her ankle, and thus when she landed, she crumpled to the ground with a yelp of pain. She grabbed her ankle and rubbed it gently, then looked up. Her injury was minor compared to what the man had just gone through. She hurried over to him, having to crawl along the ground in order to reach him. She ignored the pain that shot through her leg as she now knelt beside the man, looking down with her intense bright eyes.

"Oh my gosh! Are you alright? I'm sorry, I don't know why he did that." Her voice was soft and sweet, like something a person might expect to hear from an angel. Concern filled her gaze, and it was clear that when she said 'he', she was referring to the creature that now stood just behind her, almost in a protective manner. Serena only hope this man could still walk. She had no idea if she could trust him, not even knowing who he was, but she couldn't just leave him there. Her better nature urged her to make sure he was alright. In any case, if he did intend her harm, he would likely get a hoof to the face.

Now with the underbrush behind her, she felt somewhat more safe, it wasn't as though she disliked the company of the gurads, she just felt that she needed to experince the world. What good is a bird, if you leave it caged. She reminded herself as she continued her trek through the trees. Let' see, She began thinking as she walked. Where did they say the phenomenon was at? Her mind reached for an answer, but none could be attained. She sighed heavily unable to reach any kind of definitve answer. Matari was slightly exhausted from all the running she had been doing lately, perhaps she should've just taken the carridge instead. She leaned up against a tree, finding shade from the heavy sunlight. Her stomach grumbled reminding her that she hadn't eaten in the past few hours. Her eyes went skyward and glanced upon an orange hanging from a branch, it was the last one, it's taste seeming to taunt Matari's hunger. The thought of food made her stomach growl even louder, and she gave in to her primal urge.

Her feet spread apart and she took a great leap up the tree and landed on the branch that the orange was hanging on, but much to her suprise Matari found a small monkey holding the orange out as if to taunt any nearby travelers. Matari's brow narrowed as anger consumed her thoughts of what she was going to do to the monkey. The monkey of course realised this and gave out a large shriek as it headed into up the tree. Matari wasn't about to let her meal leave however, and she followed after the monkey, scrambling up the tree more like a beetle than a person. The monkey saw her approach, gave another shriek and leapt from the tree to another one. Matari's determenation was increased as she readied a jump across the trees. She took a short run and jumped onto the end of the branch, using it more like a springboard than anything else. The monkey once again let out a shriek and took off for another tree. Matari landed on the second tree, but her weight was too great for it, the branch snapped and sent her falling.

The branch below caught her backside causing a great pain as Matari's world went suddenly dark. She awoke unknown hours later, as her eyes opened she found herself on the forest floor once more. Moreover, in front of her she saw a hole in the base of the tree, wherein something glimmered, clearly made of metal. She reached out for it, but her back gave a sharp pain to her. She worried that she had broken some bones, and instead waited, lying there on the forest floor for some passerby to help her. She feared that no one would come by soon as there was no path nearby, and no landmarkings in sight. It was now that she wished she had stayed at the castle and taken the carridge to this meeting. It didn't matter now though, she was stuck, plain and simple.

((Sorry it's so short - busy weekend and not too much time, but I didn't want to leave you hanging too long : P ))

Angel looked at the guard; he supposed he was in his middle age. And with someone as apparently... energetic as Ev, the redhead could see where the problems would lie. He just gave the guard a sympathetic look.

Fox laughed when Ev teased him about not being as fun loving. "No, no, I just prefer not to give Angel more than two heart-attacks in any given day," he said easily as he walked next to Jupiter. He soon found himself chuckling again after listening to Ev's story. "I suppose I can only imagine! I never bothered getting caught," the heir admitted, though the sly look he gave her suggested that he might just have earned his nickname and earned it well.

"'Tis a pleasure to travel alongside you, Ev - though I see you haven't been long on the road! Angel and I have been traveling for but two days yet," Fox said. Bractus was a surprisingly far distance away - Angel always forgot. It never felt like the two countries had much between them, but there you had it! Two full moons for Ev to get even this far. A brave girl, Fox thought, giving her a smile.

Angel shook his head with another frustrated sigh. "No, no... Half the time he makes me wear them, too. Fox just likes to play," the servant said absentmindedly, though he turned a peculiar shade of pink after he realised he'd used not only Fox's name without a title, but Fox's "pet name" in front of company! "I-I rather mean, Lord Crispian..." Angel corrected belatedly, rubbing at his temple. How embarrassing... Angel thought, glancing up at Fox. You manage to make trouble for me even when you're practically out of sight, you know that?
PostPosted: Mon Oct 01, 2007 8:31 pm

The guard noticed Angel's look of sympathy and instantly regretted ever speaking. "I ask no sympathy, Sire. I should never have spoken. My apologies," he said to the man with small nod.

The heiress laughed understanding what he meant, then suddenly stopped. "Oh, how conceited of me! Sir's not as young as he used to be. Why did I have to be so thoughtless?" She shook her head, mentally berating herself for having not thought of the poor man. "He's the best guard in the regiments, so it makes sense why Father would send him... Why did I not think of his age?" She lamented her actions, unsure now of what to do to apologize to her faithful guardian.

She did catch Fox's implication at his name and how he had come to obtain such a descriptatory title. "Getting caught? Well, what sort of Fox would you be then, my friend?" She gave him a wink, though it was a less enthusiastic one, her thoughts still on her previous and erroneous actions.

"And no. Not long on the road. As far as Bractus is from the meeting place, at least. I've driven them hard." And I'm horrible for having done as much... she thought, sullenly. "But two days? Really? You must be going at a fairly leisurely pace too? Or am I mistaken in the distance of Primeria?" Evion pictured the maps that her tutors had often thrust under her nose, which wrinkled at the site of them, wishing instead to be buried in a book or practicing her archery or acrobats. But Evion returned Fox's smile, despite her glum thoughts of regret. She apologized then, for her suddenly downcast mood, not meaning for it to affect their conversation.

Sir could not help but let slip a quiet laugh at Angel's frustration. "Aye, you heard the heiress, though. 'Maybe you can wear the corset.'" The man offered a hidden smile in the shade of his helm. "But Princess Evion, too, enjoys play and pranks. It's not in her nature to be serious at all times." Sir ignored, not even using the energy to wave away his correction, when Angel named the Primerian heir by a name he'd never himself be allowed to say. Friendships formed and the aging guard respected that.

((Sorry for the downcast mood and what-not. I didn't think of the affect till after I'd written it, but so decided to continue that mood...))

Prince Ziren

Daylight was still glimpsing through the sky's horizon, hues of light red and orange covet the very eye sight. Although this twilight brought such sweet beauty, Ziren knew night would fall soon, and if his plan was to come around, they would have to act fast. So, now was the time to reveal his plan to them both.

"As you both should know," his main focus was on the confused captain, "A star has fallen from the sky, but this is not the first time the heaven have lost shine, indeed, the witches have done this well before our time, and as history stated, they succeeded back then. No doubt, the kingdoms took arms against the wretched fiends, but they did not gain victory at all. So surely, after defeating the entire kingdoms, the witches have more than ample experience and knowledge." His eyes moved back and forth at them, good, so far it seemed everyone was intently listening, so he continued on. "Well, the heirs are meeting at Telford, and soon they will go on a journey for the star, however, by the time it takes them to make it there, the witches will have the star, and have a trap set for the heir."

"I would not weigh the heirs so lightly, they have all matured, some more than less," Vassal winked as he spoke, and gave a loud laugh before he continued. "So, I have faith they could get the star first perhaps. Although you do make a point, the witches would know where the star is... speed would be of the essence then."

Ziren let out a sigh, he knew he couldn't convince Vassal that easily, so he had no choice but to continue on with revealing more, and so he went on to say, "Well, even if the heirs got the star, they would have nowhere to hide, the witches would be right on them. As I said before the witches have gone through this centuries before and they are probably well prepared for a rescue attempt. Which means that the heirs life would be at risk, as well as the star, making not only the mission a complete waste, but a great loss as well." A grim face held on tightly as he let out his final thoughts on it, "And... if we ever did succeed... the witches would merely try again."

"You make it as if we have no hope to win."

"Indeed, which is why I came up with a plan, it might seem crazy but it is a long shot at victory. Instead of joining the heirs, I'll have Cross take my spot and rescue the fa-"

"Wait, why me?"

"If something goes wrong, I know you're quick on your feet. Also, if you run into the heirs, you'll be able to supply them with the brute strength that they might need. However, not to spoil the good name of Incarnus by having it as if I ditched, I want you to take up my name and represent the kingdom. You look just like me, and no one knows our army nor me that well, so you could easily fool them."

"Wait, what kind of blasphemy is this?" Cross seemed definitely ill pleased with it all, while oddly enough Vassal seemed quite for once, perhaps taking it all in.

"It has to be, for what I have planned may actually stop the witches in their tracks for good, so yes it might be outrageous, or crazy as I said, but it is necessary. If you go as me when you rescue the fallen star, all of the attention of me will be drawn away, making it easier for me to work behind the shadows as Vassal and I go through with rest of the plan."
Now it seemed the events were barely scratching the surface, but both Vassal and Captain were paying full attention, and waited with every second that seemed like for eternity, to find out what else he had planned.

Carmen, after having her fun with a rather crude young man, had taken to her dismal room. It was not as luxurious as she deserved, but it would suffice. Her poison had worked quick on the young man, so no one would truly know how he died. And because they had been in his room when she had taken his life, he would likely not be discovered until his body began to decompose. It had been a bit reckless, true, but she was still in the kingdom of Dresnia, and thus these people feared her, and would not dare speak against her. She was a powerful witch, they all knew, and each of them feared her powers. The night had passed by quickly, and now day broke once more.

She kicked her legs over the bed in a rather cheery fashion, though her bright eyes shone with malice and cruelity, and her demeanor seemed to eminate her dark nature. She threw her clothes on and washed up, then grabbed what little she had brought in from her carriage and headed down the stairs.

A few eyes followed her descent and exit, partially happy to see her go, partially entranced by her beauty. She grinned wickedly as she stepped up into her waiting carriage, which her servant had readied early in the morning. It was off for another day of travel, but this day would bring her closer to her goal and desire. She was sure she could reach the borders of the dense forest by nightfall, if not sooner, so long as the driver did not slow. "Make haste." She said, a threatening tone slipping past her lips. The servant knew the price he would pay if he did not please his mistress.

It was midday by the time Majxn's eyes had opened. Another sleepless night, am I to be haunted forever by my past? He queried to himself as he slowly rose up from the bedroll. He went into the bathroom to start to prepare for the day, but he noticed something was missing from his wardrobe. It was one of his swords. No, this can't be, I was so careful when I put them away, how am I to hold onto my memories if I continue to lose them? He looked up and saw himself in the mirror. His scars would remain on this body for forever, but his emotional scars would last even unto the afterlife. He grew strangely frustrated as he stood in front of the mirror and soon punched the glass. Shards shattered everywhere, falling all about him and embedding themselves within his fist. His eyes stared down at his hand, now covered with blood, yet this was not the first time he had been in pain, nor would it ever be more than his greatest pain. Majxn decided it was a good time for drinking, this was his only place where he could even be remotely happy. He then wrapped his hand in bandages, got dressed, put the remaning sword on his back, and left his house. Now outside, the peaseants seemed to be speaking of something, Majxn paid no mind to the small whispers that each town person spoke of for none approached him, everyone knew what kind of person Majxn was, and how easy he was to set off. His footsteps continued along his path, with him paying no mind to much of anything, until he saw The Colored Ale. It seems a fight broke out here. He said as he looked at the collapsed wall right next to the point of entry to The Colored Ale. He went in nonetheless.
The barkeep came straight up to him, clearly frazzled as his hair was untidy, and he never rushed a customer. "Y-You must be help me." The man's voice was rushed and filled with fright. "The-The princess left here not long ago, you are a bounty hunter, catch her and bring her to me, after that I'll give you a life's worth of free ale."
Majxn knew this was a good deal, yet he personally knew the princess, she was rather reckless at times, and it just so happens that this was one of those times. "No." Majxn's voice was cold, and his thoughts were simple.
"You would give up a life's worth of ale, for what? Do you honestly think you can collect a better prize?"
"No, there is no prize," Majxn lifted the man up by his shirt. "Now, I'd suggest that you tell me where she went, otherwise you'll find yourself without a head."
"No, deal, I know better than to trust a low-life bounty hunter such as yourself."
"Oh? so you think I wouldn't behead you then?" Majxn drew his sword from the sheath on his back, and then moved the blade unnervengly close to the barkeep's neck. "Then tell me what you make of this."
The barkeep gulped rather loudly and sweat began to pour down his face. "Fine, I give, she headed west from here, but I know not how far she has gotten by now."
"Good little monkey." He said as he sheathed his sword. He then threw the man forward, slamming him into his rather well assorted mixes and vials. "Now, clean this place up, it's a mess." Majxn smiled as he left and headed west. It wasn't long before he reached the edge of town. Wonder where she went from here. He thought as his eyes scanned back and forth, he then spied the line of trees. Well, if I was trying to hide I'd go into the forest. He jumped through the bushes. Everything seemed normal, no signs of foottracks, or any activity. Majxn strolled along at his normal leisurely pace, until he saw Matari lying on the ground.
"Well, look what we have here." He said as he strolled over to her. "If it isn't the princess, but why are you on the ground?" He took her arm and began pulling her up.

Fox stopped what he was about to say, listening to Ev with sympathy and surprise. What a changeable mood... Though I suppose it is in the nature of women, he thought. Then again, he could see why she'd be upset... Though really, she might have noticed before. Can't fault her too much, Fox thought, reaching out an arm to pat her on the shoulder.

"You can always apologise to him when he catches up, then try to mend your ways," Fox pointed out softly. It was really the only thing she could do, as she could hardly go back in time. "All you can do is change. Lamenting won't do anyone any good, Ev," the grey-haired boy finished, giving her an encouraging smile.

Fox drew his hand back and grinned. "We're fairly close, and Angel and I know the land around here well enough to take the shortcuts that usually go unseen," the heir replied. It had been a very fun couple of days, though they had been moving rather swiftly. Fox knew well how to have fun and be efficient all at once, and Angel had long since learned that particular habit from his master. "Ach, don't worry about feeling bad for your wrongs; narry a one of us is perfect, and there's no need to pretend you're the exception there, Lady," the heir told her reassuringly. Really, she needn't worry so much. Emotion was what it was.

Angel caught the guard's smile - caught it in his eyes. After all, there were times when nobles were required to keep a straight face, pleased or not, so Angel had learned to look to the eyes for smiles, frowns or any other emotions. His mother had always told him that knowing what your master was thinking by his eyes alone was the mark of a good servant. Angel had learned the lesson well.

"I don't think it's in anyone's nature to be serious at all times, though I suppose there are the melancholy of nature among us," the redhead replied with a small, relieved smile. He was grateful that the guard hadn't called him on his slip, and so sent him a "thank you" with his eyes. "Do you find it as tiring as I sometimes do, dealing with such a merry prankster at all times?" Angel asked, the question simultaneously joking and serious. Fox really could be tiring for Angel, though never tiresome. It was an important distinction. Nonetheless, he wondered what the guard would have to say about his own mistress.

Matari endured the pain as she was lifted from the ground. Her breaths were heavy and each one seemed to drain her energy, she wondered if she could even get moving again without some sort of support. While being lifted, she looked over the man who had just taken her hand. His emerald eyes dug deep into Matari's soul, as if looking past her and at something else, something spiritual. The man looked familiar, yet, at the same time, not. Then she rememebered the shiny object in the tree.
"Please, could you look into that tree over there, I think it contains some sort of weapon or something."

Majxn considered it for a moment. It was true that she had asked him to go and retrieve the item, but he also knew that if he let her go, she could fall back to the ground, causing more damage that what was necessary. He shook his head and said with reverance, "No, I can't let you down, not after all that we've been through." He looked at her blue eyes, they conveyed her responses better than her words ever could, he knew what she was about to say, even if she wasn't going to use the words that were swarming in his head. Before she could speak he decided it would be better for them both to go over there.
"I've another idea, what say you to both of us going over there and retrieving the item?" A slight smile was brought upon his face. He knew the answer, it was almost like he was talking to a mirrored image of himself, except female......and happy.

At Fox's touch, Evion looked over at the young man. Her pale cheeks turned a fair pink, igniting with embarrassment. "My apologies, Fox. I don't mean to sound so... depressed." The girl shook her head and straightened.

"You're right. I shall definitely apologize. Actually, I'll do so now. I'll return shortly," she said with a small wave, letting go of Tanyon's reigns. He was a good horse and she knew he wouldn't bolt.

Quickly, Ev ran down the road, inciting horror and worry to cloak Sir's face. "What is wrong, Lady Evion?" he called, his deep voice strained, tugging his horse to a stop. The heiress reached Angel, Sir and the others shortly, then bent over to catch her breath. For a few moments, the girl couldn't breathe. When she could finally, Ev returned to her height with a smile. "Nothing, Sir. I just need to apologize for making you run so often today. I forget at times, in my fun, that what I do isn't always the best for my friends." She took a few more breaths, then continued, "And I ask your forgiveness for being so thoughtless."

Sir just stared, bewildered. He looked at the grey-haired man down the road, that at Evion, then at Angel, back to the young woman. "I- I... uh... Lady Evion... Madam... uh..." he stammered, shocked that she was below him, offering a wobbly curtsy and that she was also apologizing to a lesser rank. "Please, get up. I forgive you. You were having fun... Please... What would your father say?"

Evion just erected herself, an glowing smile on her face. "It does not matter what Father says. You're my friend deserving of an apology. But now I feel bad for just leaving Fox alone, even though I left Tanyon. I know you're wondering why we're walking, and it's because Tanyon and Jupiter are tired. This shall give you plenty of time to catch up." With a nod, the girl lifted the velvet skirt of her dress and jogged back to the other heir. Again, she had to catch her breath, but she managed to apologize for what she'd just done. Taking her stallion's reigns, the girl asked sheepishly, "How was that?"

Matari and Majxn walked over to the tree, he was carrying her by her right arm, draped over his shoulder while she tried to walk, which was more of a shuffle really. Once at the destination, he set her against the tree gently, making sure not to cause harm to her. She was breating heavily, and that worried Majxn, something told him she was out here for no good reason.
"So, how'd you end up like this?" Majxn asked, as he went down on his knees and stuffed his hand into the hole of the tree. He felt the cold, hard metallic object within, and with a backwards thrust he pulled it out.
"Here we are." He said as he presented Matari a gauntlet. It was gold plated, with small inlets of a ruby colored cloth.
"Now then, where are we going?" He said as he picked her up, carrying her like she was his new bride.

"Oh you know, I was in the trees, chasing after something I didn't need." She was still smiling as she spoke, she felt better, but not 100%. The cool shade of the tree was like a calming balm settling over her, something told her that she could spend all day here, if she truly wished it.
"Oh good, I'm glad to see that you made my request." She took the gauntlet from him, and placed it on over her arm, it was strangely form-fitting. It was almost as if the gauntlet was placed there for her to find, for it was an exact fit to her arm. The ruby inlets on the inside of the gauntlet lit up with a red beacon-like beam that headed toward the sky. It then lowered itself to the ground.
"I suggest we follow that beam of red light." Matari gave her suggestion once Majxn was holding her. She saw Majxn nod his head and he began running. They followed the light, keeping it straight in front of them at all times. While Majxn ran Matari put her hood back up, making sure it covered her face.

It took a few hours, but eventually they came across a clearing. Within was a girl of silvery-blue hair, speaking with a boy with auburn hair. The girl was holding onto the reins of a horse while another boy was standing nearby, this one had gray hair, yet didn't look all that old. It seemed as though the girl had just returned from someplace else.
Matari kept her hood close to her face as they entered the clearing, she knew better than to pronounce herself when she entered a room.
