"What are you talking about now?" Beatrix had obvioiusly wrestled Jacoba into new overalls; her voice was getting closer and closer until she arrived in the doorway. "You're getting senile in your - oh my God."

That was Mommy's voice! Hooray! The little blonde girl smiled widely, sticking her thumb in her mouth. Jacoba, for her part, stared at the other girl until she realised with growing annoyance that her little 'brosista' had finally made an appearance on the scene. "No fair," she said loudly. "She got feets."

Bea approached Jack, open-mouthed and gaping; the little girl was pleased, as all the family voices were present! "Just tell me not to panic," she said to Jack wearily.

"Don't panic." Jack's face was innocently blank and his tone dead-pan. Nonetheless, he bounced the child in his arms slightly for amusement factor.

"I think we should do a momentary child swap," Beatrix said. Had her bandage been off and her eyes open, she would have looked rather like a deer in the headlights.

"Now why would you say that?" Knowing full-well that she couldn't see his grin, he let it slide towards wicked and he turned the little girl in his arms to peer into her patently adorable face. Easily, he hoisted her high above him and winked up at her. "She's bloody adorable. Cute as a button. Now you've got a matched set, right? Firecracker there an' now this lil lady."

It was a slight tragedy that Beatrix could not even properly tell if the child was adorable, but she took Jack's word for it wholesale as Jacoba wriggled impatiently in her arms. She wanted to at least properly see her new sibling, maybe yank her hair a bit and cross her eyes at her. The tiny blonde, for her part, was giggling wildly in response to Jack's wink.

"I haven't even thought of a name," Bea protested lamely.

"Think of one now." Jack shrugged, unmoved by her plight. "An' while you're at it, put poor Jacoba down. She's gonna hurt herself tryin' t' get away."

"Oh." She had forgotten she even had Jacoba in her arms; but the baby books still rang in her head, reminding her about Sibling Rivalry and not quite wanting to dump her eldest child on the floor in favour of the new one. She therefore turned to set Jacoba safely on the couch, reaching out for the small blonde, who immediately wrapped her arms around Beatrix's neck and latched on like a baby monkey.

"I've run out of grandmothers," Beatrix said resignedly. "Rebecca? Does she look like a Rebecca? Did you want 'Rebecca'?"

"It doesn't matter t' me, luv." Jack obediently passed over the girl and then moved to flop beside Jacoba, ruffling her hair affectionally. Seemingly, he had already developed a habit for playing with the little girl's fire-engine hair. "Mum would be pleased as punch, o' course."

"Name Dork," Jacoba chortled wildly, showing off the high class of her humour.

"I shouldn't," Beatrix said, crestfallen. "Jacoba's already Jacoba Rebecca, and apparently if you steal names from former children they will grow up to be serial killers and hate you. I got taught this out of a book, of course. Damn! Why didn't I think of this?" She melted a little as the girl's small hand came up to investigate her face. "Well, you're a sweetheart, aren't you?"

Jack ignored the melting Bea out of politeness; she never liked it when someone saw her go gooey. Instead, he focused on Jacoba. "I wouldn't reckon 'Dork' would be a good idea, lass," he counseled. "You want pet names for her, right? Ones other kids can't use?"

"Dork," Jacoba agreed happily; Bea was surreptitiously counting Wisp's fingers and playing "teddy-bear garden" on her palm. "Wuss."

"You get my point, good." Jack beamed down at the redhead. "So let's come up with a name that everyone else can use. Emily? Gwen?"

"Gweg," said Jacoba, who obviously had the wrong idea.

"I'm fairly sure 'Emily' was the March sister who died," her mother said, tickling the tiny blonde a little to hear her giggle. "Or was that Beth? Anyway, I've never liked the name. Gwen - Gwen's more passable."

Jack relaxed back against the couch, smile amused. Bea generally amused the hell out of him and the fact that she was now a mother twice over was the jackpot. He reached over to the side in order to rest a heavy hand atop Jacoba's head. "Gotta be a girl's name," he explained to her. "Gwen. With an N."

"Gweg," Jacoba said again, obviously liking the sound of it. She gave a momentary, bright grin at Jack, obviously pleased with the whole thing now that he was giving her lots of attention. "Call Gweg."

"Please, Jacoba," her mother said, pained and distracted. "No lisp."

"Wisp," said Jacoba.
