Why do I suddenly get the impression that most fans of Doctor Who were bullied as kids? Is it just the kind of show that social oddballs are attracted to?
Anyway, having been bullied myself, all I can say to you youngsters is hang in there... it gets better when you go to college. Probably because you're no longer stuck in the same room with morons. Instead, you'll be trapped with a bunch of lazy, whiny pre-meds, which is marginally better.
On a more pleasant note, since this thread is named 'Ceribri', I thought I'd mention that Ceribri has finally surpassed both Roobarb and myself as the top poster on the guild.

Ceribri And Roobarb, isn't this a good thing? I'm glad that we can talk about this kind of stuff in the guild, because I know personally that it helps to know that you're not alone when it always seems that you are. Oh yes, I meant that as a positive comment. And you have a point about Doctor Who fans Hairy. Just to prove the point, check out this guy, Toby Hadoke. He's a comedian who I went to see Salford a few months ago. He is awesome but his whole act is based around his life, growing up being bullied and suffering all kinds of stuff whilst being an obsessive Doctor Who fan. It ends happily and was hilarious to watch. He did a BBC7 version of it too (not as good as him live unfortunately... but it gets the point across). I got the feeling from the riotus laughter in the theatre when I was there that he was not alone in his Whovian suffering. It's the best comedy night I ever went to - a whole room full of geeks just like me (NOTE: Geek = compliment in my books) and a comedian I could totally relate to. And he ended up happy, so I reckon we're all in with a pretty good chance of leading fantastic lives. Bollocks to school and all that rubbish. Oh and congrats Ceribri... stare Grr... xp

Well, I guess it wasn't quite as bad as secondary school, but I was still stuck on a course full of total morons who were incapable of shutting the hell up. And several of them were pretty unpleasant to me and my friends.[/rant]

I'm still quite an outcast but on the other hand I can choose to leave whatever I like whenever I like and still enjoy my course. Plus, after all the shitty isolation at High school, I've now started randomly going up to the people on my course who always stand/sit alone (like me) and just greeting them and talking to them. It makes me feel unbelievably wonderful, even if it turns out we have nothing in common and they stare at me funny. Some of them are even friendly! whee

B i l i i Wow. This thread got a lot more replies than I thought it would. Mind you, we DID hijack your thread & turn it into a psychoanalysis rant or something.... rofl
You know what I think is part of what we like about the Doctor? He's an OUTCAST. No matter where he goes, even when he went back to Gallifrey, he's always out of place. And he DOESN'T CARE. He just goes on his way, does what he wants, dresses how he wants, lives how he likes. Until they destroyed Gallifrey & dumped all that guilt & stuff on him, he was quite happy bouncing around the universe on his own. He's our role model! whee

I started watching when my local PBS station was broadcasting the Davison era, and I think what I liked was the high body count during Eric Saward's reign as script editor. Like the bloodbaths in Earthshock, Resurrection of the Daleks, and Warriors from the Deep. Uh... I hope that doesn't say anything about my psychological state. ninja
