Taiyaung blinked in surprise. Had Shim...blushed? Could she have possibly heard his words? That couldn't be, he probably just imagined it. Still, Tai made a mental not in bold to stop musing aloud.
The stallion cocked his head at the question of the length of his visit. Truthfully, he hadn't thought about how long he intended to stay. At last, he answered, "Originally, I had intended to climb up the mountains, sightsee, then return. However, that was, um, without a...." Quickly, Taiyaung racked his brains for a word to describe Shim. It was too soon to call her a friend, and calling her a tour-guide was much too rude. "...companion. Now, however, since you've gone to the lengths of showing me your home, I suppose staying one night wouldn't hurt..." Taiyaung glanced at Shimshek, hoping that he wasn't intruding. He followed her gaze outside, wondering what she was looking for.

Her ears twitched at Taiyaung's description of her. Companion? She practically expected him to call her his tour-guide, but it was too rude, more than likely, looking at his character from what she'd seen. "Of course," she said, agreeing quite abruptly as she turned her attention from the opening of her old home to look at the magnificent unicorn standing just a few feet away from her. "For a stallion who is not used to this climate, if you came for a visit, not only would you get lost, you might die of starvation," she said, point of fact, bluntly. "I am lucky to come across a friend such as you, for I was planning to return here soon."
Okay, so technically she had made up an excuse to keep Taiyaung to herself for a day or so--what mare wouldn't, given how sexy this golden unicorn stallion was?--before she would probably have to let him go back to whoever he might be in love with. She, Shimshek, had no such luck in that department, and thus, had flourished by moving on and just distancing herself from Soquili society once more. She was a pitiful, depressing mare these days, and not even her adopted family--which including Hania's bloodline, and his adopted bloodline--needed to deal with her morbid self. It was bad enough she fell into the same line as Aruna, but this time around, she didn't have the stallion she'd first fallen for as her best friend.
No, the stallion she now despised with so much hate enjoyed mocking her these days... damn him, but he was irritating. He grated on her nerves, and would not leave her alone! Herself and her thoughts! Taiyaung's soft voice and gentle strength brought her out of her thoughts, and she smiled apologetically to him. "I'm sorry, Taiyaung, what did you just say? I'm afraid my mind was... elsewhere." She paused, and then said, "So you are staying? If that is the case, I can give you a true tour of the actual wonders of my mountainous home, and the dangers, if we happen to run into any of it..." She mumbled the last part, but kept her silver eyes carefully trained on the unicorn.

Taiyaung smiled and bowed so low until his horn tapped the cold mountain stone. "It is I who is lucky to have met you, m'lady Shimshek." After a moment of musing, he added, "I only wish it had been in a more graceful way." He blushed at the memory of his carelessness.
Tai was delighted at the chance to explore the mountains, almost as much as he was looking foward to get to know Shimshek better. He hadn't met too many Soquili at all, actually, so he probably would have been just as happy to meet any Soquili, or so Tai told himself.
The golden stallion smiled at the gold mare. "No need to aplogize, I know I'm not so interesting that I'd command your undivided attention," he chuckled, trying to lighten her mood. Some way, some how, Tai was getting a feeling of unease from Shimshek, or some other negative feeling that he could not pinpoint. All Taiyaung could do was hope that Shim was alright.

She hid her blush at his words by turning to stare outside the cavern once more, judging the wind and estimating whether there would be a blizzard or if it was safe to trek out and explore her mountain home. She felt... strangely... at ease with this stallion. It was so... well, she didn't want to go too far. She had slowly changed herself from being too arrogant to being very insensitive, rather, realistic.
After all, Artemis Entreri had taught her that. He had used her, played with her... and continued to constantly badger her. She didn't know how to get rid of this annoying alicorn who invaded her mind, and so, she shut him away in the dark recesses of her mind. She chuckled at his forlorn "wishing" of how they met. "Either way, my good sir, we met, and that's what counts. If you were hoping for a more graceful way, I doubt it would have ever happened."
For, as she had realized, although she was a gemstone, her life had its ups and downs more times than she could count how many feathers she had for her wings. She was also getting very tired. Hm. Taiyaung's smile was very nice to look at... especially his eyes... "What? But you're very..." she paused, and corrected her words, "I mean, it would be rude of me to just plain ignore you."
She left out saying even if you're not so interesting, and merely smiled at him, nearly sweating at her mistake with how she spoke.

Taiyaung cocked his head in contemplation. "Even so, m'lady Shim, you seem rather preoccupied in your thoughts." The stallion smiled in understanding. "Besides, the sun is starting to set, so I'd better be off to sleep now. I rise and set with the sun," Tai stated, heading for a corner of the cave, where he hoped that he wouldn't disturb Shimshek. As he curled himself against the cool stone wall, he decided to say one more thing. "I interrupted your nap, didn't I? Maybe you should sleep as well. Let your dreams chase all of your worries away..."
Despite his last comment, Tai knew that there woulld be no peaceful dreams for him. Lately, he had been plagued with nightmares of his childhood. Taiyaung had never gotten used to them, reliving each and every unpleasent experience as if it was real everytime. And so, as the last rays of the sun melted away, Taiyaung slipped into slumber, where he knew terrors awaited him.

"Lately, these days I always find myself to be preoccupied with my thoughts." She turned to watch him again after he had spoken for a bit, and then realized something. "A unicorn of your stature... you must be one of those truly pure unicorns... to rise and set with the sun." She glance at his horn, and saw that it was true. Suddenly, she felt very corrupt next to him... but it drew her more to him than she recognized. As he withdrew to a corner of the cave, she followed him, deciding to dare herself to sleep next to him.
She smiled softly at him. "You didn't interrupt me at all, Taiyaung..." She settled herself next to him, making herself comfortable as she slowly allowed the peaceful darkness of sleep overwhelm her. Taiyaung's body heat made her feel... whole... and for once she felt like she'd be able to get a fitful sleep. "I hope your own dreams melt away," she replied, and her eyes closed shut. Outside the cave, the wind howled loudly and harshly, and an occasional wolf howl would pierce the air, followed by growls and snarls of predator creatures prowling about in the cold, freezing night.
A sudden loud "thump" jolted Shimshek awake again. She blinked, her vision blurred from sleep, and she almost gasped aloud at what she saw. The wind must have been powerful, because the cave entrance to her home had been snowed in... had there been a blizzard while she and Taiyaung slept!? The next thing her eyes saw was a mountain lion, staring right at them... and he was a very hungry mountain lion...

Tai smiled in his sleep when he felt a warm body beside his, and, as the night wore on, not a single nightmare of a memory haunted Taiyaung.
At the same "thump" that had woken Shimshek, Tai blinked his eyes open. His eyesight, blurred with sleep, managed to make out a mountain lion, snarling and flashing his teeth, drool dripping off the side of his mounth. Taiyaung sighed- apparently not even a pretty mare could keep his nightmares at bay...Wait a second, Taiyaung's memories didn't include a mountain lion! He snapped back to reality as he realized that he was awake, in Shimshek's mountain home, about to be eaten by a ferocious beast!
Mentally cursing himself for picking a corner to sleep in, Tai moved automatically in front of Shimshek, head bent and horn glinting dangeriously in the dark. His eyes glanced at the cave entrance, wondering if they'd be able to dash for it. His heart sank when he saw the white wall of snow. "Shim, m'lady, if this cavern has a secret exit, now might be a good time to reveal it!" he called, nervously. However, Tai's hopes weren't very high. The best idea to him at the moment was killing the mountain lion, then wait for the snow blocking the cave to melt. Shim did say she had stocked the cave with food...
A movement caught in the corner of his eye brought Tai's attention back to the mountain lion. It had crouched down and looked ready to pounce. Right as it was about to leap, Tai charged, throwing his whole weight against the mountain lion. He was met with a searing pain in his shoulder, caused by claws sharper than knives. The golden stallion lept away, dodging another of the lion's swipes, panting and dripping blood. The stallion barely had time to catch his breath, let alone heal his wound, before the mountain lion attacked again. A battle of paw, hoof, horn, and claw, as Tai fought a losing battle to save his and Shimshek's lives.

It was a good thing Shimshek was used to have cave-ins by snow, but she had to force herself not to allow her instincts to take over her at the sight of the mountain lion. Her reaction was slowed due to her drowsiness, but she was quickly shaken awake when she actually realized the danger both she and Taiyaung were in. Thinking quickly as only a mare of the mountain could, her eyes darted here and there as she tried to contemplate a way out...
...Until, that is, when Taiyaung leaped in front of her. She almost had a heart attack! "Tai, wait!" she said, trying to stop him from making any sudden moves at the lion... when suddenly, before she could even have another word in edgewise, Taiyaung turned on "attack mode" and began to fight with the lion. The only problem was, she didn't have an escape exit. Not this time around. Then, she began to worry. She didn't want to tell Taiyaung she didn't exactly have an escape exit... he was worried enough fighting the lion...
"Tai, there's a problem..." She saw blood. She stared at the thick, red liquid dripping from Taiyaung's shoulder, and then she froze. She already felt useless as it was, but seeing Taiyaung bleeding truly scared her. The next thing she knew she was screaming his name and found herself leap into the fray, hooves clawing at the air as she reared, and used all her strength to shove away Taiyaung as she herself took on the mountain lion. She still found herself screaming, but she couldn't get herself to stop... this stupid lion had hurt Taiyaung... it was going to pay for hurting her stallion...
The mountain lion, taken by surprise from the sudden attack from the quiet mare who had merely been watching in shock, was thrown slightly off its usual rhythm as a predator as it now fought for its own life. When it had jumped into this cavern, it hadn't expected to meet with prey that fought back; in fact, it had expected to meet with prey that ran around in a panic! And because it hadn't eaten for a day or two, it was already weak from hunger... the instinct to survive was still strong, but the lack of food had already weakened its physical strength... only mental strength made it keep going, allowing it to slash a good one on the winged mare...

When Shimshek shoved past him, all Taiyaung could do was stumble backwards to shock as the white and gold mare launched her attack. However, when a river of blood seems to errupt from Shimshek's leg, Tai regathered his bearings and charged past Shimshek, and rammed the mountion lion into the wall.
Taiyaung stepped away from the limp mountain lion hesitantly, the fury of fight leaving his eyes. The beast gave a final twitch of its paw, before the breath of life left the body. Taiyaung bowed, wishing the spirit a safe journey to whatever lay beyond. After all, the predator was merely trying to survive. His prayer complete, Taiyaung sighed exhaustedly and turned to Shimshek. "Are you okay?" he asked, before he could help it. "Never mind, stupid question. Let me look at that cut of yours." Tai finished, trotting towards the mare. He bent his head down gracefully and touched the edge of the wound with his horn. A soft, golden light seemed to pour into the injury, and when Taiyaung stood up, only the slightest hint of a scar remained.

For once, Shimshek was fretting over someone other than herself. Ignoring the healing scar on her leg, she nosed around Taiyaung, despite the stench of death and blood stinging her nose. "I'm perfectly fine! I'm more worried about you! Are you all right!? Are you tired... hungry!? Well, of course you are!" She continued to fret and worry and... well, fret and worry some more as she tried to lick Taiyaung's wounds clean... literally.
"This will not do! It won't do at all! I can't allow you to injure yourself any further. Lay down, Taiyaung," Shimshek said, firmly. Her stallion had better lay down... She continued her constant fret and worry as she literally "flew" around the cave, gathering herbs for medicines and food and water. As she paused in front of Taiyaung to lay all of these things in front of him, it suddenly occurred to her that he was pure-bred unicorn. She was going insane! Shaking her head, she tried to clear her worry.
Despite Taiyaung being a pure-bred unicorn, it didn't matter to her. What mattered--she was also surprised at this--was that he was all right... he wasn't... hurt badly. She lay down next to him and laid her head against his neck, exhausted.

When Shimshek finally calmed down, Taiyaung merely licked her ear and laughed. "M'lady underestimates me. I am alright, and you are, as well?" Tai didn't wait for an answer, he simply went and looked over Shimshek, just in case. He was just as worried about her as she was about him- although he was considerably less dramatic.
Unfortuantly, Tai's healing magic wasn't able to erase the stench of the dead cling to him, or the dried blood caked in his coat. "I'm sorry, m'lady, but I'm afraid that in my state, I'd only contaminate your supplies..." Tai said, politely refusing the food. "Maybe we should just find a way out, and hopefully into a mountain spring?"

She could tell he was uncomfortable but reasonable. She sighed as she wobbled to stand, feeling slightly dizzy from the blood loss from the fight from earlier. She walked over to the wall of snow covering the cave and nosed it, pulling back out quickly, wrinkling her nose in disgust. "It looks like this way is buried and blocked hard. Well, there's a mountain spring hidden somewhere around here..."
She didn't have an escape route at all, but there was a way to get to the mountain springs... and why didn't she think of that before!? She wanted to bang her head against a rock wall. She was so stupid! In her panic and rage, she hadn't thought about the entrance to the mountain springs, hidden by all the food she had gathered over the months. "This way, Taiyaung. I'm so sorry, I forgot all about this entrance... I was... shocked." Shocked, panicked, and furious, she mentally mused, sighing internally.
Also, idioitic, she thought, cursing herself. Why didn't she think about the mountain hotspring? It led right to the outside, where she and Taiyaung could have escaped the wrath and hunger of the mountain lion. She sighed once more, exasperated with herself. It also didn't occur to her Taiyaung might have wanted to have a private bathing as she led him towards the hotspring.

"Don't apologize, m'lady. Most Soquili would have fainted, or paniced. You actually went and attacked the puma, and did quite a deal of damage. Besides, we're fine, and now we're going have some nice warm bathes." Tai said, trying to comfort Shimshek. He could see that she was mentally bashing herself for not thinking of the springs. Sighing he went over and nuzzled the mare. "You can't change the past, no matter how much you want to." Although he was trying to comfort Shimshek, he couldn't help but let just a bit of bitterness creep into his voice. His foalhood...what he couldn't give to change it. Was he being a hypocrite? Probably, but... "Besides, like I said, everything turned out okay."
Now at the springs, Tai stepped into a smaller pool off to the side, sighing as the steaming water hugged his ragged coat. He looked back, expecting Shimshek to step into her own pool. To his surprise, she was walking over to towards him. Amused, he asked, "M'lady wishes to join me?"

Hiding her blush, Shimshek stepped towards Taiyaung, but not without a sharp retort. "If you're trying to comfort me, my good sir, those words are more of an insult. I am not one to be easily frightened..." she rapidly closed her mouth when she remembered how she had frozen and couldn't have moved at the sight of the predator. Feeling ashamed, Shimshek turned away, not liking how she was feeling so guilty. "...I'm... sorry," she whispered slowly, also not used to the idea of apologizing.
Everything with this stallion was making her lose her mind... and her heart. "Warm baths is what we both need," she said, after a moment of silent contemplation. She moved closer to Taiyaung, inspecting his body for any major wounds. Even if he was a unicorn, she still didn't like the idea of him getting hurt. It was another strange feeling within her, but she found she didn't mind it too much. Taiyaung's nuzzling brought a comfort to her she had sorely missed, but wouldn't probably have difficulty admitting it aloud.
Returning the favor, Shimshek brushed her muzzle along Taiyaung's neck; feather-light, and continued until the nape of his neck connected to his body. "Tai, are you sure you're all right?" she questioned, concern lacing her tone and appearing in her silver eyes. She also didn't realize she had shortened his name into a familiar nickname that more than likely was only used by his friends or... his lover... (she frowned mentally at that thought) and continued to nuzzled him ever so gently on his neck afterwards.
