I was afraid to use a full sized power drill for fear of putting a very nice long hole right through the gun and ruining it. >____>;;

But I managed to drill all of the guns, the heavy bolters on the Razorback and my Land Raider were the worst.

Done an assault cannon and all the mini-barrels yet? sweatdrop

Honestly I have found the power drill is more controllable than a pin vice sometimes, simply because you don't need to apply as much pressure as you do with the manual tool.

It's all about having a good hold on both parts and to use the lowest setting possible. It shouldn't be too much of a bother with a bit of practice. 3nodding

No, but eventually I'll have to do all the barrels for the Centurions...I'm not sure whether or not I'm going to use the Hurricane bolters or not...

Lt. Brookman
Been looking at the following as a nice little Zone Mortalis force:
Finally getting a chance to take that board for a spin? surprised

Lt. Brookman
Captain with lightning claws, two full Tactical Squads with heavy bolters, meltaguns and power weapons, plus a three-man Centurion Devastator squad with missile launchers, Omniscope and gravity cannon with amplifier unit.

Total: 750 pts
Depending on the foe you face you may be better off swapping the Centurions for a less expensive assault squad and a squad of Sternguard with some juicy upgrades or a full set of combi-weapons. It might also be worth looking into turning one Tactical squad into an ad-hoc assault squad of sorts by leaving the heavy weapon out in favour of more aggressive movement towards the enemy.

I'm also curious to see the Chapter you'll end up with.

Might go with either the Black Templars (buffed duelling skills) or Imperial Fists for their bolter drills.

Sometimes I feel like I should have looked into another chapter...But I like my Ultramarines well enough. Though if I could go back I think I might have made a Salamanders army instead green is my favorite color.

Is this a personal preference or are you gearing towards countering the local meta?

If you have enough minis, you might try and just run a new Salamanders army. You could always run them as an allied detachment with both. I have about 1500pts in Cadians and 600pts in Tallarn; both independent armies, but I can use either of them as an allied detachment in a pinch.

I just don't have enough and pretty much everything I do have is already half-way painted as Ultramarines.

As "counts as" or an actual Allied Detachment? neutral

No, no you can't. Unless you mean as an allied detachment to another, non-Guard army.

Maybe the new codex will allow for such a thing, but as of right now, it is indeed not possible.

Well for IG purposes I could run them as part of the same list, both being primary detachments.

Either way, the Space Marine codex specifically allows it to take different chapters as allies, doesn't it?

Yes, it is all explained on page 77 of the codex.

Chances are that only Space Marines will be allowed to do inter-Codex allying and that the Guard can only ally with other Guard armies that come from supplement books or Forge World lists.
