"I'm glad," Dari replied, coming to join Cody. "Sure! It's another family one." Toby's family. Luckily he wouldn't have to call Toby again to get specific measurements! An eidetic memory was sometimes a nice thing to have. He experimentally dipped a triangle of his sandwich in the soup, tried it, and smiled. Maybe eating tonight wasn't so bad.
"Mostly it's just 'stick stuff in a pot and wait.'"

"My mom did that with ramen noodles. She'd put meat, carrots, peas, green beans, green onion, meat, sometimes diced tomato in with three packets of ramen. It took ages. But it was always good." He took another spoonful of soup.

"That sounds good," Dari said with a nod. He had had ramen noodles before, purely out of his own curiosity. He liked them a little al dente, but boy was the broth salty. Meat and veggies had to help.
"Honestly I've never been a cook. I just started a little bit ago. We have kitchen classes."

"Kitchen classes? Is your brother teaching you, then?" Cody asked, curiously. "Because those muffins were awesome. And this is even better." He finished his soup and pushed his bowl to the side.
"You know, I've never has someone miss work for me before."

"He is," Dari nodded. Him and poor Lori. Lori always took notes. "I'm glad you liked them. I asked him to teach me special for you."
He took another bite of soggy sandwich and furrowed his brow. Cody's parents must have missed work for him, but lovers? Not once?
"Never?"

"Nah." Cody shrugged, and gave Dari a smile. "Well, mom did when I broke my arm, that was embarrassing." Twelve years old, trying to show off for his friends on his bike. That'd ended in tears and a frantic mother. Not very impressive. "Where did you go to college, Dari?"

Huh. A federal agent had been willing to call in sick, but none of the others? All of the normal people Cody had dated? That was a shame. He deserved such care.
Then the alien looked a bit shamefaced. They'd needed to make him a history and documentation to go with his new disguise, of course, but his case had been a special one. He was so full of information that some unusual institutions had been put in place. It was embarrassing to offer such names.
"Harvard," me murmured.

Cody's eyes widened. If he'd had any soup left, it would've probably spilled, as he nearly knocked the bowl off the table. "Harvard," He echoed. He should've expected something like that, the guy worked for the fbi after all.
"What's it like there?" And what was a guy like Dari doing with a nobody like him?

Dari shrugged. "Like a university?" He had seen Harvard. He had never had the opportunity to actually take a class there. "Like a really pretentious New England university." He chuckled and took Cody's bowl from him to start cleaning up.

"I just went to the local one," Cody said; the two were undoubtedly different. "Did your brother go to Harvard too?" He followed Dari into the kitchen, covering his mouth when he sneezed. He went for the cabinet he'd put his medications in and opened a bottle. "I think I'm safe to take another dose," He said, and went to find his gatorade in the living room.

Dari shook his head.
"Toby went to a state school." Why they'd decided that was beyond him. He'd never consider himself more learned or educated than his partner, but others clearly thought otherwise.
"Yeah, you sound like you need another one. I'm so sorry you picked this up, hon."

Scholarship, then? Or had Toby tried to get into Harvard and failed? It was supposed to be almost impossible to get into. Cody took his medicine with a swig of his gatorade.
"I'll be alright," Cody assured him. "I've got a week of no school to get better, boyfriend's orders."

"And I'll be here to keep you company off-hours," Dari said with a smile. He wasn't sure what they were going to do, but he'd be here. He could even work a bit from home if he did it in a language Cody didn't understand, not that he'd have to. The medicine seemed to be working pretty well for him. Dari would just come with a book or two in case Cody continued getting the sicky-sleeps.
"Even the secretary said to make sure you rest," he said, shaking a finger before beginning to rinse the dishes for the dishwasher.

"I'm really happy to have you here," Cody said, taking Dari's hand. "I know I protested, and I tried getting you to go." He took a breath, and studied Dari. "We're together." Right now. Forever.
"Of course she did." The secretary wasn't much older than he was, but for some reason she'd "adopted" several of the teachers.

Dari smiled and kissed Cody's temple. Oh, good. So he wasn't totally intruding. He nodded.
"We are," he said, and then laughed. "So you must know how important it is."
