Sorry, im think more along the lines of catachan from the days of codex: catachan where you can set up you generic and special infantry into ambushes pre set on the field. shame they discontinued it. guess they felt it made the catachan to powerful?
for my self, my whole army is mounted up in chimeras, with 6th platoon being mounted in valks. the whole goal in mind is to deploy solid tank formations and have 6 platoons of infantry mounted up to be more mobile and able to adopt to any change on the battle filed. chimera do move faster thin infantry on foot right? it also helps with adding extra fire to my squads. the haul mounted heavy bolters and pentil mount heavy stubbers have saved my butt more then once. (keep in mind most of the time i have fought manly chaos and the player loved getting into close combat with my imps. the extra 6 shots along with 9 lasguns and a las pistol can, with good rolls, chew up charging chaos units. only thing i had to worry about was his demon prince. more then once that thing had shredded my leman russ tanks like there where protected by tissue paper.. and i only ever killed it once with yarrick, back when he had that laser hidden in his false eye, and the over powered personal shield. his infantry how ever hardly did any damage and he never deployed tanks, saying "chaos lost the keys to 'um".

thats just my view for useing chimera any ways. any thing wrong with it you can point out? id love to know before i finish the army while i still only have 3 chimera at this time
Six platoons? How many points are you going for?

oh, and i should also mention that with my bad luck at rolling dice, 1 or 2 platoons of 25 men each wouldn't last very long... with a 5+ save i tend to fail the save rolls 9 out of 10 times. its normal for me to lose as many as 20 to 30 guardsmen per turn starting at round 3 or 4. i do just fine at range. but once close combat starts my troops tend to get cut to peaces pretty quick.
With IG, you really have to make the most of cover and orders; going to ground behind cover for a 3+ cover save, followed by a "Get back in the Fight!" order from your company commander can be a lifesaver, especially for objective holders.

But to put it in scale, without upgrades, 6 full mechanized platoons (meaning 330 infantry and 36 tanks) is at a -minimum- 4000 points, and that's all troop choices. The other downside is that transports are useless for squads over 10 people, and with 6th ed rules on Purge the Alien missions as well as morale, it's best to mob your guardsmen into groups of 20 or 30.

ill need to read this new rule book when it gets here some time tomorrow before i reply to this. (it would seem i am at a bit of a disadvantage since i don't know the new rules.)

Aw, don't get discouraged like that! It'll take a bit of time, but you'll learn it and after a few games it'll be second-nature.

DE, can you find the dummy version of the rules that cross-references it to the page in the rulebook? You know, the one I have in my SoB codex? Maybe that would help him break it down a bit better.

*edit: I don't mean dummy as in the way it might have sounded, but its a simplified chart/list of rules smile dumbed down, if you will.

I love it because it makes it easier for me to understand. I hate how they word it too.

I'll look around for it, I have it saved somewhere...

Done and done. 3nodding Played against Blood Angels, they were woefully outnumbered. Game was "Big Guns Never Tire", I took it 12 points to 2 (almost wipe-out, but he had one Terminator left).

I just realized how truly awesome Wyverns are. Four, twin-linked, cover-denying, shredding, non-ordnance, blasts? For 65 points? I'll have no problem proxying my Griffon as one, and take a battery of two. 3nodding

Soo, I need to write a 3k list that will do well in a modified Cityfight scenario where buildings are objectives which can be held by any infantry. I'm thinking IG will be the core, with some Space Marine scouts and some Eldar fast-movers, any thoughts on building a list on that scale?

Okay, so I'm taking IG with a battery of Wyverns and a battery of Basilisks, a Hellhound, and an Eradicator. Also a trio of Scout Sentinels with camo netting to stalk the buildings.

Second primary detachment is 445pts of Space Marines; four 5-man scout squads (three with Sniper rifles and heavy weapons, one with close combat gear, all with camo cloaks) and a Captain.

Allied detachment is Eldar with an Autarch and some jetbikes, Dire Avengers in a Wave Serpent, and some Striking Scorpions.

Overall I have five squads of infiltrators and several units that ignore cover, enough to run two organized columns up the streets. Should be a fun list, at any rate. I posted the full list in the Army List thread, quite a mouthful. Bleh!

They told me to be a better player, so I bought a Deathstrike.
