Between the looming aspect of surgery from an a*****e doctor that dismissed my attempts to be informed tomorrow, having to go in 2 hours early (meaning wakeup is at 2am), lack of money, and my car needing repairs/care/inspection desperately . . . Life is not kind right now.

It has not happened yet. The initial estimate is anywhere between $3k and $5k, with 35% of the costs up front. Some discounts may be available, but to get to them I need to apply. For said application, I need proof that I was denied health care from the state. Now, the problem is that an application to the state is needed to be denied. Then I can get the proof to take to the hospital to apply for their help. Only after that happens can I even know what the final costs will be, or how much either the down payment or payments will be.
In the meantime, my health is degrading and pain is growing. To say the least, I am highly frustrated and can't do anything about it. The only good side is that if this takes until mid-April, I will actually have sick time at work to use to take up some of the recovery. It is only a day surgery, likely only about an hour under sedation. Still, it will take about 10 days to two weeks to recover. I'll need a week or so off from work, a lot of it is to allow the swelling to go down.

That's steep >< While government red tape is often slow, I hope for your comfort & health that the bureaucracy is expedited in your instance.

The hospital said that they may have some discounts for me since I have no insurance . . . and my research on what I need done was not much help. The range was from 800 to 10,000 dollars to get it done. so yeah. Not a good thing, but I guess it could be far worse.

Hopefully all of those discounts/coverages will stack. That's also quite a wide range; would they not give you a more exact raw quote?

The initial 'raw' quote was somewhere between 3 and 5 thousand. Of course, the discounts should help. I have begun the process of applying for state medical aid. Either they will help me, or they will deny me. If they deny me, then I go on to the hospital aid. Of course I am again left with a difficult decision. Wait for sick leave (which should become available as of April 11), or lose a week of pay from work while I recover from this surgery. Much of that depends on when I can actually get the blasted thing cleared to be done.

Indeed. I have received and delivered the application for state medical aid, and that is undoubtedly being processed. The wife is anxious for me to harass them and see how far they have gone on it. Again, I'm just unsure how much hurry I need. For the moment, my medical issue is tolerable. Not great, but tolerable. On the other hand, I cannot deny that it exists, and I'd be far happier without it.
Got our income tax money this morning, so those balls are rolling. (car, and other financial needs). We shall see how much is left once the demands of life are sated.

I suppose the better question might be, while waiting will it get worse in a way in a way that would affect your health or finances even more?

It is a progressive thing, but the treatment will be the same. However, it will potentially become an issue of it progresses much further. I'm playing chicken with it right now. That said, I would need to get this stuff started either way. I tend to procrastinate, too.... but this couldn't wait.

Yeah. I did a regimen of amoxicillin, and things were looking good. However, when I stopped it (finished), the symptoms started to come back. Thankfully, I got a refresh on the prescription and started it again tonight. Hopefully it will send everything back into remission.
Though the antibacterial seemed to irritate a thing on my chest. We shall have to wait and see.
