Dari shook his head.
"I have a lot of sick days backlogged. I'll just call in today. I don't want yo leave you alone, and I probably won't make it back before we start anyway. Is there anything you want me to bring?" Because Cody was not going in that building with that... whatever it was.

"Lesson plans for the week are on the table," Cody offered. "I'm sorry I made you miss work, love." He took Dari's hand. "But I'm glad you're here with me."

Dari was about to go get them when Cody took his hand. He smiled and gave his love's hand a squeeze and then released him to get the papers. Lesson plans for the week. Okay. If he just read them before they dropped them off it wouldn't matter if the sub lost them. He took the papers and then returned to Cody, offering him a hand to help him up. He wouldn't kiss him, just to keep up the facade of humanity, but he would hold his hand.
"Don't worry, it's not a problem."

"Ready to go?" Cody asked. He coughed into his elbow, looking to Dari. "If its the flu, I'll be out for a week." He hated it. "I really don't want you getting this, though..." He hated the idea of his love stuffy and miserable even more. "Maybe you should tell Toby so he doesn't worry."

"I will," Dari said with a smile. He helped Cody down the stairs and out to his car and more or less tucked him in with the papers in his lap. He then came around the other side, popped his Bluetooth in his ear, and ordered it to call Toby.
"...hello?" Groggy. Dari must have woken him up.
"Hey. I'm not going to be in for work today."
"Huh?"
"Cody's sick, and I'm taking the day off to help him out."
"Oh, okay. Call the big boss."
"What do I tell him?"
"Tell him you legally have the availability of sick days, biology be damned. ...maybe in nicer words."
"Alright. Thanks."
"'Night."
Yeah. Dari had definitely woken him up. The call to the big boss was a lot more proper, and it was finished in time to get to the high school.
"I don't know if you should go in. Do you want me to drop these off for you?"

"Probably not. Don't want everyone catching whatever this is," Cody muttered. He looked towards the school. "Just take it into the office, they'll give it to my sub."
"Do you feel like soup? I think I'll need to buy some." And orange juice. Maybe gatorade, things. "I love you, you know."

"I can go out for groceries, you just need to rest," Dari said, as if there would be no argument. Of course they could go to the store after the clinic visit, but would people want a dreadfully ill and feverish young man wandering around their food? Probably not. He took the papers and kissed Cody's forehead before he got out of the car.
"Here's to hoping they don't think I'm a random imposter."
Once inside, Dari realized he didn't know where the office was. Luckily it was easy to find.

"Alright," Cody agreed. It made sense, no one wanted someone sneezing on their vegetables. "They won't."
The school secretary greeted Dari cheerfully. "Hello there," she said. "Are you here for Mr. Fletcher?" He didn't look like a substitute.

Dari grinned and nodded. It was the little things that felt so good. He could walk into a public place, flash his teeth and talk about whatever he liked with this ring on. There was no hat, no sunglasses, no heavy paint or blinding projectors.
"I am. He's caught something bad and I talked him into taking the day off and going to the clinic, I'm sorry." He offered the secretary the papers. "He said to hand over his lesson plans to you and they'd make it to a sub?" Still smiling charmingly, still peppy. Gosh, a new person in a totally normal place!

"Yeah, I got his call," the secretary said, shaking her head. "He sounds terrible. Poor guy." She took the lesson plans and gave him a smile. "Make sure he rests!"

It didn't strike Dari that it may be odd for a man to be bringing in news about another man, but maybe everyone knew? Maybe nobody cared. The secretary certainly didn't seem to.
"I will, don't worry," he said. The secretary had a pretty smile. "Thank you, and have a nice day!"

"You too!" The secretary gave Dari another smile as he left and waved. Huh. Cody's brother was certainly handsome! Was he single? Maybe if he came again later in the week, she could pry?
Stupid fatigue. Cody was becoming irritated. He'd slept a good eight hours, and already he was exhausted. Load of crap. He smiled when he spotted Dari coming out of the building, though.

Dari's brow furrowed and he gave a pathetic, sympathetic smile. Cody was smiling, but he looked half-dead. If only he could bring him to Lori to get him back up on his feet. Instead they'd be going the human route: to the walk-in clinic. He actually had to use his GPS to find the one nearest them.
There were only two people ahead of them in line, and it took nearly that much time to fill out the paperwork. Finally Cody was sitting in front of a very disinterested-looking clinic doctor.
The test was to stuff a bendy plastic Q-tip all the way up Cody's nostril and into his sinus. Dari made a horrible face as it just kept going... Then he offered Cody a tissue when he seemed like he was going to sneeze immediately after.
"I'll be right back with the results," the clinician said.

Cody took the Kleenex, sneezed, and muttered a thank you. "Sure you will," he muttered, glaring at the door as the doctor left. "Right after you drink coffee and chat with your friends." He looked to Dari. "Sorry love," he said.

Dari's brow furrowed, but he smiled.
"Sorry? About what?" he asked, offering Cody another tissue so he didn't have to rub his nose with more snot. Humans were full of all kinds of strange fluids. He was just the one.
