"Hm? It's just a cold, I'll be fine," Cody assured. "I can't send a sub in, not right now." The substitutes rarely knew the material, let alone specialised in history. He coughed away from the phone, into his elbow.

"Did you go to the doctor?" Dari would bet he hadn't. Determined sick people always decided they had colds, regardless of how bad it really was. "Hon, you're going to get everyone sick. Let me come over and check you out, at least."

Cody grumbled and could be heard shifting restlessly. He paused, and sighed. "No," he said. "But I know a cold when I see one. I've had them often enough."
Dari wanted to come over? "But then you'll get sick," He protested.

"So you don't want me to come over because I'll get sick, but you want to go to a school full of children and colleagues and get them sick? You need to take a day off..." It didn't exactly sound like a common cold. He could hear the chest-heaviness of Cody's breath.

"I can't miss work because of a cold," Cody said, sneezing into his elbow. "Alright. You come over, you'll see. I'm fine." He hated missing work. He really hated leaving his students to a subsitute, especially this early into a new topic.

Dari nodded and slipped his ring on, then got up to get dressed.
"I'll be there in a few minutes. Just rest until I get there, okay?" Drawers could likely be heard opening and closing as he searched for an outfit. He'd have to dress up for work in a couple of hours, but for now a t-shirt and jeans would be fine.

"Okay," Cody agreed, sitting on the couch. He broke into a coughing fit, holding the phone away from him so Dari wouldn't be deafened. When he seemed to recover, he said, "I'll see you then. Love you.".

"I love you too," Dari said, and then he hung up. The only thing keeping him from running out the door was to leave a note for Toby saying he was just checking on Cody and would be back before work time.
True to form, he was otherwise there as quickly as possible and let himself in.

Cody looked up when Dari entered, forcing a bit of a smile. His muscles ached, He felt like he'd been run over by a bus at least once. He didn't move from his seat to greet his love, like he normally would have.

Dari sighed and pulled a long box out of his jacket pocket, pulled out a digital thermometer, whacked it twice against his palm, and then climbed onto the couch by Cody's head.
"Open."

Cody recognized the thermometer at once, and groaned. He opened his mouth obediently. Bleh. He'd always hated this sort of thing. He waited about a minute before pulling it out and looking at his temperature.
...Well. That explained his aches.

Dari stuck it under Cody's tongue and pressed the button. When it beeped Cody pulled it out, and Dari snatched it from his hands. 105.
"Yeah, that's not a cold." Dari shook his head, and then looked off in the direction of Cody's usual workstation.
"What do you say we run to drop off your lesson plans and bring you to the clinic?"

"Do we have to?" Cody sighed. He looked to Dari for a long moment, reaching for his hand. "Alright. I'll call the school," He said, dialing the office and informing them he was sick. "I'll probably give the sub a movie to show the class."
"Can we skip the clinic?"

Dari shook his head.
"If you have the flu, you need meds," he said, "It'll make you feel less like s**t, I promise. If it isn't the flu, great, we'll go get you some aspiring and cough syrup." But that was a pretty heavy fever, and the flu was usually contagious for about 5 days after show of symptoms, so he doubted Cody would be going back to work any time soon.

Cody knew Dari was right. He nodded and pushed himself into a standing position. "Lets go," He said. Maybe once his fever was down, his muscles would stop aching. "Don't you have work? I don't want you getting this."
