"It is a different world from this one called Gaia," Lin told her son softly, "More specifically though we're going to the Winters' clan grounds just outside of the city of Durem."
Which was actually quite far from the heart of the city. It wasn't unusual for members to use a portal or car (if anyone dared to be driven) to get there. The portal from the Borderlands back to Gaia was still well hidden by the bush, and in some strange way the bush itself became a portal or a door way, which had only grown larger over the decades.

When they got to the portal, Earendil stopped. "Lin, you're going to have to open the portal," he told her. "I can't, I'm not even fully sure of where exactly it is."
It was hidden, after all, invisible to those who didn't know it was there and how to activate it.
"Portal?" Andarien questioned again. He was squinting at the tree that hosted the portal. "Is it that really bright spot there?" Even the goggles weren't helping him at the moment.

Lin looked down at Andarien and was suddenly slightly worried, "How well can you see that?"
Normally she would have thought that it being created by someone else and therefore having been supported by other types of magic that it would only be a mere residue of the person who made it.
Of course she forgot this was her mother and two brothers she was talking about here.

Andarien looked up at Lin, glad to look away from the source of magic.
"It's not bright like Lancaeriel," he told her, "but it's still bright with the goggles." He frowned uncomfortably. "I don't like looking at it."

"You... might want to look at the floor," Lin replied, "When we get in, and we should get you those better lenses ASAP."
If he could see the portal, then she was pretty sure he could see the glowing of the runes, and she was sure that there were no runes on the floor.
She hoped.

Andarien chewed his lower lip nervously. It sounded dangerous, not seeing where he was going.
"Maybe ... can Ada carry me?" he asked in a small voice.
"Of course," Earendil assured him, kneeling to pick him up. "You just make sure to keep your eyes covered, all right? There's a lot more magic there than here."
Andarien threw his arms around Earendil's neck and buried his face in his shoulder. After a second he reached up and pushed the goggles up onto the top of his head, and then he buried his face once more so that he wouldn't have to see anything at all.
Earendil turned back to Lin and nodded. "I think we should be ready now," he said softly.

"Let's go then," Lin murmured as she made her way up to the bush.
She knew where the portal was by memory more than she did by sight, which was just as well. With the fact it was a growing portal door the rune that activated it was well hidden and took a second of glomping before she could touch it and activate it.
Taking Earendil's hand, and trusting Miyuki to keep close, she led her family through the portal door and into Gaia.
