Given that Utopia originally implied "no such place", it is fitting; so the best that can be done is to constantly readjust to get closer.

My efforts amount to trying to keep from adding any pain to the world whenever possible and raising my kids right. It seems to be working as few have complaints against me that I am aware of . . . and that my older daughter tells me about how she seems to be the only one in her group of friends with decent parents. Ones that love each other openly, don't fight much and respect her choices as much as possible. We support our kids and try to do right by them as much as is possible. If that were to continue happening, over time humans would change. The exception would become the norm, and the successive generations would be overall kinder and more accepting.

This is true, but America isn't likely to improve any time soon since it lost its moral foundations & unity; slow decline will be the future for the next several generations at minimum simply due to how long it takes to reverse the bad cultural impact of society-wise bad parenting.

I am so tired anymore . . . hard to keep upbeat about anything. We've been painfully broke since June, and frankly I am growing weary of trying to have hope that things will improve.

I'm sorry to hear that. Your new position isn't paying as well as you had hoped?

It has been one crisis after another. Between catching up on bills, car troubles, kid requirements, taxes, fees, and other problems coming up . . . We haven't had any spare money in months. Now I have a health issue come up, and fighting with the wife about seeing a doctor. We have no health insurance, and a doctor visit will entail at least $80 we do not have. It isn't life-threatening or even severe. It is a painful infection in a sensitive place, though. Had it for months, and been dealing. We got in a rather heated (and hushed) fight about it tonight when I finally told her just how bad it has been, and how long I've had it. It wasn't an easy or joyous admission.

You deserve so much better than your situation... Were you able to go get that checked out, or still no?

what I 'deserve' seems to be of little consequence. Not because I don't think I should be doing far better, but because the world gives me this. Enough to make a man think about the machinations of fate. No matter how hard I try, nothing changes.
I will be seeing a doctor on Tuesday. It will be mortifying, but the situation is not improving on its own. I have little choice in the matter.

At least the doctor will be able to help resolve it, or at least inform you.

Unfortunately, no. I require a specialist . . . so I got to embarass myself repeatedly today for no reason other than a referral. In two weeks.

I hope your time with your family went well, good sir. As for my issues . . . we shall see. I've had it for weeks, so it should take time to heal. The sooner the better, but it's becoming something normal at this point- as terrible as that is.

Yes, it went well, thanks. Scary sometimes how adaptable humans can be, eh? I find it far too easy to just live w/ minor medical issues and not address them (mostly due to my ascetic disposition).
Will be taking some time these next 4 weeks to teach my home-schooled niblings(nieces/nephews) some math/logic once a week, so that will be an experience.

heheheheh . . . niblings.
we are designed to adapt, to accept the normal when the very concept of normal is adaptive and subjective. What is chaos for the fly is normal for the spider, as it were. Such is how people become nose-blind to bad smells in their home, sleep through alarms, and simply don't see the most egregious parts of their world.
