errr....random talking? Last I knew at the had ended the standared TIE bomber and had implemented the TIE Scimitar.
How many would like to see the TIE Defender become the mainstay of the imperial Starfighter Core?

Read the novels!!! The only Imperial manufactured starfighters in the novels are TIE Defender mk IIIs and TIE Scimitars.

Trust me, I do very much so read the novels.
And the one NJO book that had Imperial resistance, the action only focused on a group of Tie Defenders, because of their mission. There was no mention on whether or not Defenders had replaced regular TIE In/s.

Something tells me the empire did not replace the 90,000 credit (approx)Tie/In with the 500,000 credit Defender as its primary fighter craft. Even the Republic couldn't afford such numbers with such a price gap.

It could be, but then again, its probably just as viable, if not moreso, that is isn't. I'll stick to what is known, and not try to second guess the system.

Zaarin: Lets see... Baron Scoontier Fel we've found that you've destroyed over a hundred and fifty enemy starfighters.
Fel: Does that mean I finally get a Defender?
Zaarin: No...
Fel: Why not?
Zaarin: You need to destroy twice that number in order for us to warrant giving you a defender.
Fel: Huh?
Zaarin: You see a Defender costs about as much as 300 enemy starfighters... we want a return on our investment.
Fel: Frag!
