((quoting, because I am horribly slow and this was like four pages back. orz.)) shushida Josh chuckled and waved off Alice’s gratitude effortlessly, “It’s alright I have it covered.” He handed a few fifty dollar bills to the idle stage manager who held out his hand like a greedy mendicant. Now that he had paid, the boy was determined that he would have to go through with the engagement. Josh sputtered and swung himself around to face Alice once he comprehended her comment. His stentorian voice climbed in octaves, “I most certainly do not!” The boy’s face was completely flushed with mortification on the topic of his sexuality. Josh replaced his choleric frown with a more sanguine and pleasant smile as he returned to facing the stage where his “hot date” was waiting. He piped up in a mellifluous and honeyed voice aimed directly at Mr. Sweet, “Hello ther-” The boy’s chocolate eyes widened as he was stunned to see Julian being shuffled away at the last second. Would their date still be on? Josh huffed and up defensively, not only did he accidentally win but now his prize was running off! The boy would be determined to catch Julian sooner or later during the festival. For now, it seemed as if the other had disappeared. Josh turned to Alice and piped up in a spiteful tone, “I suppose Mr. Julian Sweet got cold feet?”
Alice laughed contentedly as Josh brightly declined her money and approached to collect his 'prize.'Cracking her neck, she waited. Curious, the girl observed the actions up on stage, stifling a smile and pursing her lips together to keep them from smiling as Josh blushed in utter mortification. She could not hear exactly what the boy said to Mr. Sweet, but she did see him shuffle off and a pout cross Josh's face. Alice rolled her eyes at josh. "I suppose so. Perhaps he could not handle your, ah... 'seductive wiles,' eh?" she asked, looking grave for a moment. But it soon passed as she waved him down again. "We shall have to plot a sneak attack later," Alice said, snickering, two tentacles rubbing together like a villain did his hands.

Junsu Junsu grinned back at Natsuki, and politely led the way. "Of course I don't mind at all, m'dear. By the way, you can just call me Jun for short." Oh, how this all seemed so familiar for him! He was somewhat reminded of the Win-A-Date Contest his band had held not too long ago. Jae hadn't participated, but he remembered the experience. It felt similar to this, but yet....this felt better. Walking up towards the garage sale booth, his eye immediately caught on a few funky items. "Wow! Funky was a good word. Talk about a selection!" he hummed pleasantly. "Seriously, talk about an ecclectic collection of items. Definitely funky," Natsuki giggled, looking over the assortment of items, but her jaw dropped when her eyes fell upon a ruffled, pink apron. It was a hideous shade of pink, but that wasn't what caught her attention. It was the name of the donor, Ravi. She'd sooner peg We'rika as the owner of such an obscenely loud piece of clothing, but it would certainly be something work laughing about later. Picking it up she held it to her date's chest, trying to maintain a serious demeanor while trying to sell him the item. "What do you think of this apron, Jun? I think it might bring out the color of your eyes," she said trying to sound serious, however, the mischievous sparkle in her gray eyes gave her away.
Next, she picked up a brown domo mug, a donation from Dr. Kyoupiruchi, and a pair of glasses, from a guy named Kumoru. Checking both for cracks, or defects, the redhead was pleasantly surprised to find neither. Turning her attention to the booth clerk, she took out her wallet and smiled. "I'd like to take these glasses and this mug, please. How much are they?"

Josh approached Alice and was not in the perkiest mood after Julian had fled at the thought of a simple date with the boy. He gave a long sigh as he awaited one of the girl’s many sly quips about Josh’s sensual proficiency. “Perhaps, by saying hello I did come on a bit strong," He gave a sharp laugh and held his side mockingly as if the humor was to great for his body to contain.
Alice’s next statement immediately brightened the boy’s mood by a few shades. Josh gave Alice a malicious smirk that spread awkwardly over his puerile features. He nodded enthusiastically in affirmation, “Yes, we should create a cunning scheme. At least, for a bit of fun.” The boy snickered at the sight as two of Alice’s tentacles began to plot ahead without them. “I wonder what ideas they have?” He pointed a slim finger towards the two wriggling appendages. Suddenly a short message blared over a loud speaker:
“Attention festival goers…. The cooking competition will soon begin. Registration begins now. Please make you r way to the booth in a calm and orderly manner.”
A metallic click and whining buzz signaled the end of the broadcast. Josh had nearly forgotten about the cooking competition during all the ruckus Julian whats-his-face had caused. The boy began a slow and steady walk in the direction of the vivid and blatant sign of the cooking stand. Josh flipped around on his heels and inquired, “Do you want to come sing up with me Alice?”

Jun playfully took the apron from Natsuki, and holding it to his front, struck a modeling pose. "Do you really think this brings out my eyes? This like, TOTALLY matches my personality! Like, OH EM GEE." he said, imitating a girl's voice. He decided to get it, figuring it would make a terribly adorable piece of kitchen-wardrobe for Jae.
Catching her wallet, he dove in for the kill. "M'dear! Whatever are you thinking?! Please, allow me!!" he intoned, wagging his finger in front of the copper-headed beauty. Turning to the clerk, he gave a wonderfully cheerful smile. "I'll be taking the apron, mug, and the glasses. How much will that be??"

Alice snorted, and a tentacle flailed at him, though it seemed more amused than anything as well. Alice's green eyes brightened with the prospect of a plan. In a horrible fake Transylvanian accent attempt, Alice cackled and bent her fingers like a mantis. "Vhat shall ve do to zee Meester Sveet? Ah ha ha ha!" Losing the accent and glancing above her, Alice put a palm to her forehead and groaned. "You don't want to know. Their plots never make any sense at all." She gesticulated with her arms and two other tentacles, and shrugged. "They tend to involve food, eels, and chalk pastels."
When the loud announcement came on, the ungulakraken's ears flattened in distaste.
"Ow."
Alice cocked her head at the teen, who was walking backwards towards a stand that was an epitome of eyerape. "I don't know if I'll be very good..." Her hooves hit the cobblestones with the clip clop associated with horses, steady but obnoxious. Cooking..? She was okay, but it certainly helped having extra hands that were semi sentient to do the work she couldn't. Grinning, she caught up to the boy. "As long as you promise not to make my tentacles into calamari, we have a deal." Jokingly, she stuck out a tentacle as if to shake on it.

"Totally, Jun! Didn't you hear? Pink is the new black!" Natsuki cackled as Junsu chose to play along with her outrageous suggestion. Her initial concern and reservation about going on a date with someone else's boyfriend went right out the window with Jun's playing along. She sighed with relief, feeling an enormous weight being lifted off her shoulder. When he waved his finger at her, a flush wiped over her cheeks. "I'm-- ah-- paying for my... I mean you don't have to..." Natsuki said, feeling her voice trail off. Biting her lip lightly, a broad smile beamed forth as she graciously accepted his offer.
"If that's the case, then dessert is on me, Jun. No buts about it!" She advised, poking him playfully in the chest, like a third grade girl bossing a classmate around. She was having fun without the pressure of having to normal date type things.

Seeing that his idea of lightening the mood was working, Jun dramatically flew back with her poke. "And Jun takes 54 points of damage! Doo doo do doooo du de doo de doooo!" he gasped, trumpeting the well-known Final Fantasy victory theme. He was extremely tempted to continue the nerd-speak with talk of experience and other such silly nonsense, but he wasn't sure if Natsuki even played many video games! - - - - - - - - - - Jae Eun skipped gleefully through the Festival. She was taking in the sites around her when a sign in bold caught her attention. Standing in front of it, mesmerized, she looked at the large letters spelling out the words "COOK OFF". Her eyes fell on a sign-up sheet, and the next thing she knew, she was slamming her name down and rushing off to the tables with ingredients and the like. She fumbled around with a couple of ideas before settling on two finalists for her entry. Should she make a Reeses' Sundae? She quickly whipped one up, and tasting it with her pinky, decided to go with her other choice, and her personal favorate: a soft-serve Strawberry Shortcake dessert. She pushed the other sundae back on the counter, and got to work. Selecting a dish with a good dip in it, she placed a square of white cake in the center of the dish, upside down. With a knife, she cut it diagonally and pushed the pieces to the side. Grinning, she found some soft serve ice cream and placed two heaping, swirling mounds in the center of the pieces. To follow up, she used some strawberry topping to cover the cake and ice cream. Topping it all off, she quickly whizzed some whip cream and a Maraschino cherry. Always one to have some stationary on her, she figured it would be a good idea to leave a description for the judges. Strawberry Shortcake Contestant: Jae Eun Kim
A wonderful summer treat made from rich vanilla soft serve ice cream piled high between to halves of lush, decadent white cake. Topped with summer-flavor strawberry toppings, this delightful treat is topped off with decadent whipped cream and a shiny Maraschino cherry. Enjoy!

Despite the heat of the season and loud blaring activity going on right next to the booth table, the black-haired teenager was.....very soundly asleep. Her right elbow was propped on the table, with her chin cradled in the palm of her right hand while her left hand rested on top of a half-empty bottle of sunblock lotion, and she had somehow managed to maintain a perfectly upright posture. One might wonder how Shuura remained asleep in such a position.
In fact, if it weren't for the fact that her eyes were undoubtedly shut upon close inspection, an idle passerby might very well just assume that the maid-costumed girl was in fact, awake and merely...bored.
However, although the noise and clamour had failed to wake her up, something else did.
....THIRST. Shuura's eyes snapped open as she scowled, the movement hurting her parched throat, which only made her scowl deeper. She'd be bored out of her mind and stuck here forever, waiting for the green thing to come back with her drink? She didn't think he would be stupid enough to run off with her money, but if he did, she was going to get double the amount back from Jules, nevermind that it was only money for two drinks. And didn't she ask him to go get Vyn too? Perhaps Vyn was being difficult? The rose-haired Frei was usually pretty obedient, but she did have her stubborn moments.
An exasperated sigh escaped from Shuura's lips. Appearantly, if you wanted something done here, you'd have to do it yourself. Getting up, she grabbed her black umbrella and headed off in search of liquid refreshment and her retarded floating charge.

Josh dodged the jittering tentacle thrown into his face and continued on his brisk pace while walking backwards. It was proving to be quite a pleasant workout for his calves. Josh couldn’t help but spare a giggle at the girl’s garbled up accent. The boy beamed and followed suit in the little charade, “Vell, I zink zee…,” Josh fumbled the Transylvanian drawl and then dropped it completely, “… tentacles’ plans could prove to be quite catastrophic!” Josh took Alice’s appendage gingerly and shook as if to seal the deal, “I’m sure you’ll do fine and don’t worry I’ll make sure not to use your tentacles as my secret ingredient this time around.” He gave a sly wink at the ungulakraken.
The boy spun around towards the cooking stall just in time to be caught off guard as a table rammed itself firmly into his side. The table successfully managed to knock some wind out of the lithe boy and almost topple over in the process . “Eep!” Josh yipped and shot a firm hand out to rebalance the shaking table. He glanced down with tear glazed eyes to see the cooking registration form. The boy picked up the pen and quickly scribbled his name in an almost indecipherable chicken scratch. “So I suppose now I cook?” The query was aimed at no one in particular and he found his question answered as he noticed the array of ingredients brimming over a table next-door to the registration one. Josh now set out to gather his ingredients…

"Woo hoo! Natsuki Wins!" the cafe owner replied in geekspeak, quoting her favorite fighting game, Dead or Alive. While Jun staggered back, Natsuki flicked her bangs from her eyes and struck her best karate victory pose, one that would make her grandfather, and two of her stronger DOA characters, Hitomi and Ein proud. The completed her celebration with a V-sign, a high kick, and a playful wink. Her shoes clacked loudly on the sidewalk, but she didn't care, she felt light as a feather.
"Jun, do you play video games? Too bad there aren't any carnival games here. I'd love to take you on in a sportman-like competition," Natsuki asked, hopeful that she'd get to keep the convo going in the fun direction.

The clerk at the garage sale booth smiled sweetly as the two new characters came over to her cluttered booth. Other than the smile, the woman quickly greeted them with a gentle, “Hello.” Right after that, the stout miss got back to rearranging the objects that, to her dismay, were messily strewn across her table. To be polite, Miss Charlene remained quiet as they searched through the items that were spread across her stalls table. There were so many things to choose from! Of course she wasn’t about to interfere with their conversation nor distract them in their rummaging of the past-owner goods.
“Oh! Are you all set?” The red haired woman asked as Natsuki held up the three items. She couldn’t help but giggle as the young man beside her volunteered to pay for all of it.
“Well, thank you for your purchase and I hope you like them! Here you go. Have a good day!” With that she handed off the three items. Unlike her co-worker, Richard, who was still managing the date auction this young lady kept her conversations short. Miss Charlene just didn’t like interrupting others, and they both seemed too into their conversation over games anyways. Clearly the two were on a date, the young lady having been on the auction stage after all. It would be rude of her to go into a rambling, besides, she was working! No way was she about to start acting like Richard, who would be chatting away with the customers by now.

"Really?" Excitement and happiness tinged Lucado's voice as he looked up at Rivener. "I've never really gotten to talk to anyone who liked my books." Fidgeting happily, he smiled widely at the handsome raevan, fidgeting with his water bottle, his shyness having faded as well with his excitement. "And that one especially. I didn't even get to have a book tour for it..." His warm blue eyes were bright and happy and his pale skin softly pinked with cheery glee.

The first to approach a cooking station, Namini's body was soon racked with nervousness as an older asian girl appeared soon after and rapidly but coolly whipped up a dessert. Namini quickly made a mistake as she caught herself staring greedily at the mouth-watering strawberry shortcake the other had produced. Pouting and looking back down at her bowl filled with bavarois, Namini felt her hands shaking as she continued to stir hesitantly. That looks so yummy...I didn't know so many people could cook!Distorting her features, Namini clumsily continued, occasionally knocking one or two..or three of her ingredients on the counter but within minutes, her full concentration returned to her work. Removing a chilled tubawear from what seemed to be a traveler's cooler, Namini removed some almond sponge strips from it and placed them onto a pan before preparing an oven and some plates. Sliding the baravois bowl into a small freezer compartment under the counter, Namini then took out a pocket-sized jar of brilliant red jam. Slowly breaking out into a confident smile, she rummaged through her bag again, pulling out a few octagon ringlets, and began molding the bread to fit inside the cases like a little flattened out bowl. Next she slid them carefully into the lightly heated oven before moving on to continue on her jam. Adding some sugar and perhaps one or two other flavorings to the jam, Namini brushed the back of her hand against her forehead, pouting about the heavy heat of the sun. But soon she finished the jam, and just as the bread bases were warmed a bit! Removing the pan from the oven, she made sure none of the bases were damaged or burnt. Luckily for her, this time they weren’t! Carefully removing the outer ringlets, Namini quickly set to scooping delicate amounts of the jam into the bases. Finally shifting the pans and bowl away from her, Namini removed the bavarois mousse from the freezer and then reused her ringlets to create a top to her “cake.” Grabbing the final touch from the same bowl in which she had chilled the mousse, secretly slipping them in, she beautifully decorated her summer treats with a few fresh red currants, a blackberry and a few black currants. Washing her hands, Namini couldn’t help but feel proud of herself. This would be the first time she had cooked for anyone but her brother and the outcome was perfect! Cautiously lifting the dessert cakes onto matching red plates, Namini shifted them meticulously before copying what Jae Eun had done. Whipping out a piece of notebook paper and a panda bear pen, Namini took her time to neatly describe her dessert (since she knew if she rushed it’d be illegible). Summer kiss! Contestant: Namini Nao
Radiating an ethereal aroma, this summer treat will leave your palette refreshed and satisified! The cool creaminess of the bavarois mousse contains the bittersweet flavor of seasoned mixed black and red currants as the moist jam inside spreads its sweetness throughout the lightly baked almond sponge bread base. Simplistically designed with a fresh berry finish, this treat will leave you feeling summery and romantic!

Aphismet chuckled at Ebony's question. "H-how did I manage it? Well, honestly, I don't know. I never paid for him or anything, he just kinda got mailed to my door one day... Well, that is, the bottle and vial that he was made FROM. It's er... It's complicated. But I've heard that Dr Kyoupiruchi hand-picks all the Guardians he gives Raevans to. Oh!"
Aphismet exclaimed gently as entries began to pour in for the contest. the first offering, a lovely Strawberry shortcake, made Aphi smile. A delicious classic. Another entry soon followed, which was originally labelled as "Kiss!". How imaginative! The cook rubbed his hands as he watched, eager to see what everyone would whip up. "The contest is starting!" he informed his counter-sitting conversation partner, smiling.
Rivener lifted an eyebrow at the kid who had left, and then eventually returned. Seems he didn't get his fill of answers last time. The Scorpion was getting in a good mood now, so he didn't mind answering all these questions. He turned to EJ and smiled.
"Well, my name is Rivener. I'm a Raevan, that's the name of our Species as you put it. We're quite unique. If you want to learn more about us, then talk to us. We're not aliens or anything." Riv shrugged, not really knowing what else he could add on the subject.
He then turned to Lucado. "If you want to talk to him, then he's over there," Riv pointed at the cook-off table. "He's judging something about food. That's his job, so he does it here for free too, I guess. He's nice enough, I'm sure he'll be glad to talk to you if you go over there." riv himself didn't care a lick about books or book tours, so he couldn't very well get excited or sympathetic for Lucado's words, but he knew Aphi would.

"Haha! I love video games!" he grinned, "Oh please, you know I'd win if there were games here sweetcheeks!"
Standing back up and dusting himself off, he politely handed Natsuki the spoils of her victory. "You gain: 1 pair of rather posh looking glasses and a .... a....er.......RAWR! mug!" Not really ever having seen Domo before, Junsu did his best impersonation of the face on the mug, using the 'RAWR' sound effect.
Inside, he was glowing. This was turning out to be a better evening than he had expected! He was worried that he would be in some awkward situaiton, but Natsuki was pleasant and easy to be himself around. He was enjoying himself immensely.
- - - - -
Happily moving away from the cook-off, Jae licked the bits of strawberry and whipped cream from her fingers. Delicious! She remembered how tough her days working in a cafe had been while she was in high school, but....considering all the desserts she knew how to make now, perhaps it had been worth it.
Not paying attention to where she really was, she was brought back to reality by a sudden jab in her leg. "Owie!!!" she gasped, looking to the source.
It was a sheep. A sheep standing on its hind legs. With menacing eyes. And a pitchfork in its hand?!!!! "Hey there little fellow, that's not something for you to play--OUCH!!" The sheep seemed to cackle as it jabbed at her hand. Jerking pack, Jae pouted at the tiny thing. "You're so mean! I don't like you!" Looking around, she noticed two other adorable little fox-like creatures, and decided to go play with them instead. Finally catching a sign on the way over, she realized she had made her way to the Chimera Petting Zoo. A notice for adoption also caught her attention. Glancing back at the malicious sheep creature, she could only wonder who in their right mind would adopt, let alone create, such a creature.
