Miki giggled and replied “Well, Diana always tells me that if he did something…She will send him the message personally. After all, she always keeps telling that black and blue look well together.

Miki sighed and looked nervous for another moment before laughing a little “Well, since this is Diana we are talking about. She probably only thinks that after she beats up somebody she didn’t like.”

Kai smirked again, the mental image of an impassioned Diana beating up on Yuriy being a bit too much to just ignore. "So she beats up on people, that Murphy..." he said, mostly to himself. "You and Murphy are a classic example of opposites attracting...at least, where friendship is concerned."

He lightly pushed himself off the back rest of the couch and went over to the large windows. The slate-haired teen just stood there, observing the hustle and bustle on the streets below. Now that Miki's injury had been taken care of, and the twins were alone...Kai couldn't help wondering about Kei. He'd inexplicably left her alone, and he was supposed to have been training her, preparing her for the tournament.

Ah, let it be, Hiwatari, he said to himself at last. The girl will do fine on her own; you already oversaw her training earlier...

Why he should think about the brunette just then mystified him. Perhaps it was his sense of having to guide 'the rookies', left over from his days as captain. That was, at least, plausible...

--------------------------------

Diana just continued her laugh and her entire eyes became black with a yellow glint of blood lust “Whatever you do Kurozuki, it doesn’t matter if you blow those away! That is afterall only my defense! Now I can you show the true horror my power could have”

Diana raised her arms and head and shouted “Akurei! Shower of Blood!” And with that, the same dark shadow entity sprang outside to show his mortifying image. The same torn cloak, splattered and ripping with blood.

Raising his arms, the same droplets poured down and covered the stadium and the purple blade. Now…images were send to Houka’s mind

What the heck-?! The sea green-eyed blader's mouth hung slightly open, her retort to her opponent's first statement - if you'll excuse the pun - washed away by what had happened next.

Houka didn't have quite enough time to react to the appearance of Diana's bitbeast. Almost the instant her blade was covered in that dreadful red liquid, sounds and images began flashing one by one, in front and all around her.

"Tadaimasu~!"

The creak of door hinges as it swings inward, her child-self in the doorway, schoolbag in hand. The house is dark, and eerily silent save for a squeaky ceiling fan in the kitchen.
"Hello?" 9-year-old Houka calls, absently dropping her bag on a nearby chair and walking the corridors, peering into open doors along the way. Not a soul in sight, not on this floor. 'Are they upstairs?'

Feet run... pound, pound, pound the wooden stairs, footsteps muffled by the faded blue carpet, worn out in some places. A feeling of inexplicable dread mounting as she nears the bedrooms. "O-okaasan? Otoosan? Kyle, Lily, where are you?" the young girl calls again, wishing now that she hadn't stopped at the park to play. 'What if they went somewhere but forgot to leave a note?' the child thought, reaching out cautiously to push open the door to the master bedroom. 'How long until-'

She stands there, eyes wide, not believing what she sees...

"No... Otoosan...Okaasan... don't be..."

'Blood-?!'

The haunting shade of red...it was splattered everywhere - on the bed, the walls, the dressing table mirror - and it pooled under the two pale bodies huddled on the floor, entangled with one another as though seeking comfort in their last moments. Glassy eyes staring up at her and through her...

Houka turns and runs down the hall, to her baby brother's playroom and her sister's bedroom adjacent to it. All caution gone, replaced by fear and worry, the door flings open with a 'bang!' as it hits the wall.

Houka swallowed hard, trying to keep on her feet. Her breathing was labored, her eyes like two dull jade stones, staring at nothing yet taking in everything. "Kyle...Lily..."

"Kyle...Lily...?" She kneels near the her sister, slumped helplessly beside the baby's cot, the same glassy stare meeting her gaze when she turns the younger girl over. So much blood... her hands are covered in it. She stands, peers into the cot, then falls back with a cry, a hand to her mouth.

Her baby brother, his mouth half-open as though crying, as pale as the wallpaper in his room. The same damn liquid staining his clothes, dribbling from his mouth like dark spittle.

"Why didn't you help us...Oneechan?"

Sea green eyes widened even more, and Houka slumped to the floor in shock, breathing even harder now. "L-lily?"

/"Houka! Child, what happened?"/ Medaea called, desparate now. She could sense the fear in her human partner's heart, in her mind, but she herself was growing weak - from what, she didn't know. But she had to get to the girl's mind, get to her thoughts. /"Houka, can you hear me? Answer me!"/

"Nee-nee... nee-nee-!"

The auburn-haired child scrambled backwards, slipping in the blood and staining her clothes even further. She shook her head wildly, her breath coming in short, frightened gasps. "What...what are you-?"

A hand grabbed her wrist, mournful dark brown eyes gazing up into hers. Lily, her hair matted with her own blood, entrails slightly hanging out from the wound in her middle. "You didn't help us, Oneechan..." She smiled, a child's smile so innocent yet eerie; Houka cringed. "We called you... Kyle cried for you... but you didn't come..."

A gurgling sound, a baby's coo, perhaps? Houka backed away even further...

"S-stay away!" The auburn-haired teen cried out, eyes squeezed shut this time, hands clapped over her ears. The calls of her bitbeast drowned out by the sounds in her head. "Please-! I-I couldn't... I didn't know-! D-don't...don't touch me!"

A tug on her skirt. Kyle, looking up with the awful stare and the red stain on his face. He, too, was smiling, although sadly. "You not come... nee-nee not come for me, for sissy..."

"Mama and Papa are gone, so you should take care of us...Oneechan..."

"I...I..."

"...it's your fault, anyway... it's because of you..."

"NO! No! It's not... it can't be my fault... I wasn't there...I didn't know... I-"

"You were too late to save us... we thought you'd come... we called...we trusted you...Oneechan, we trusted you-!"

"Aaaaagh! No! Stop! Stop it, Lily! Kyle, don't... don't look at me! Please! You have to believe me, I... I didn't know... I couldn't have known..."

"But we called... we called you, Oneechan... why didn't you come?"

"We're dead now, nee-nee... and do you know why? ...you killed us, that's why..."

"Your fault, Oneechan... its your fault we're dead... that Mama and Papa are dead..."

Houka was huddled closer to the floor now, practically hugging herself, eyes still shut tight, whimpering. "Gomenasai... gomenasai... gomenasai...gomenasai... I should have come... I shouldn't have gone home... I shold have saved you... gomenasai... gomenasai... gomenasai... gomenasai... gomenasai..."

((Well... I think we should make Chairman Daitenji/Mr. Dickenson and other BBA officials and such NPC characters, so we can eliminate any possibility of bias. ^^))

Miki smiled, stood up and let her good arm hug him gently. “Oniichan, is it ok if you accompany me to the registrations? I still haven’t registered my team for the tournament.”

Miki let go and stood by him, gazing down the streets. Until her middle growled softly, making her blush in embarrassment. Guess she had gotten hungry because of her two tiring battles in a row.

At this, Kai involuntarily let out a short laugh. "I think you ought to eat first, Miki," he said. "As for going with you to register, it's no problem. Even though the process is really simple..."

------------------------------

Diana continued her laughter even by the huddling figure of her new helpless victim. Her eyes continue to burn with black flames as she decided to interfere with her slight weakened state and knocked the purple blade out of the dish just when the timer just rang 5 minutes.

But just like her battle with a certain phoenix blader, out of exhaustion…she collapsed the floor with a loud thud. But her blade continued to spin and the dark figure remained in contact.

“This is not well. My mistress has gotten too far once again” thought a familiar dark presence and slowly took his other form and went to the young girl, huddled up to the floor, sobbing to herself.

Kneeling close to her, he brought her to his arms and wrapped his cloak around her and started to emit a red glow. And entered her mind.

Akurei was inside Houka’s present thoughts. He saw the painful memories and assumed that this wasn’t the Mild version like Diana used at Kai. But the Normal version. There were 3 stages. Normal was the 2nd. But Akurei thanked fate that Diana didn’t use the final and last stage or else Houka would have died from the trauma.

He saw the same girl, who was still whimpering pitifully. He then approached her and spoke “Get up girl. You know you cannot change the past that your family has been taken from you. These are merely illusions. Look at you. You are pitiful.”

“You can’t help the fact that you weren’t there with them. But if you wish to help them then strike the man who killed them and don’t waste your time mourning. You are not a child anymore. They may be not with you…but they are still alive in your memories and soul.”

Stopping to wait for a movement, the dark bit beast opened his black onyx eyes and waited.

/"He's right, Houka..."/ Medaea whispered weakly to her human partner. /"You can't...waste time... on wishful thinking. Remember... your promise? What of that, then?"/ Somehow, she knew of the teen's memories, and consequently the pain it would cause to remember them. But she didn't know - couldn't have known - that they would have such a devastating effect.

Slowly, Houka's sobs subsided, her breathing was less labored, and she reached out to grasp her blade. Though somewhat relaxed in the arms of whomever it was who held her, she didn't want to get up, not yet. She knew, somehow, that it was over - the nightmare of her memories had passed - but the fear at what she'd find when she opened her eyes was more overwhelming than that knowledge.

"And here I thought I'd gotten over it all..." she whispered hoarsely. "I thought wrong..."

Still having the slight shade of pink in her cheeks, Miki nodded and proceeded to look for something to snack on. Opening the cupboards, she blinked to find a stack of cup ramen noodles.

She opened the fridge and found some basic food. But mostly it was frozen dinners occupying the space. Turning to her brother, she asked “Oniichan…how come all you seem to have here are ready to eat meals?”

Looking slightly sheepish - only just, mind - Kai replied, "I don't exactly have the patience to cook anything elaborate." The slate-haired teen picked up the water glasses and then set them in the sink; he'd rinse those off later. Meanwhile, he turned back to Miki. "We could go out and eat if you want something more...substantial; you're registering for the tournament afterwards, anyway..."

-------------------------------

Akurei noticed the movement of the girl and carefully reached out for the purple blade and gave it to her for easier reaching. He wasn’t the type to help that much. But figuring that he had been through more terrifying memories, he pitied her for encountering such tragedies all the same.

Lifting the girl closer, her head lying down on his torso so she could be more comfortable and calm down easily. Akurei exited her mind and found her eyes shut tightly. Frowning, he shook her gently as if trying to wake her up. “Open your eyes, young one. You are not in the presence of my Mistress’s attack. Get up.”

Diana seriously needed of his assistance. But how could he move if Houka wouldn’t move her butt off him? She was seriously getting heavy. Hey…bit beasts have their limits too.

She didn't want to, but Houka sensed that whoever was holding and supporting her was getting impatient, so she opened her eyes.

And saw that same ghoul-like thing looking down at her. Yes, helooked human, but there was no mistaking the tattered clothing he wore. Why is he...? The auburn-haired girl was confused. If this dark-clad man was Diana's bitbeast, why was he helping her? Then she remembered -

"Ah! Gomen, gomen..." Houka said as she hurriedly got up, clutching her blade tightly in her fist. That was probably the most embarrassing thing anyone could have witnessed - she, Houka, one of the more promising ex-trainees from Balkov Abbey, reduced to a whimpering heap on the floor.

Clearly she needed to train herself against similar psychological attacks. The question was, how?

-----------------------------

"There!"

Kei slumped against her pillows, examining her handiwork. It had taken quite a bit of time, but the brunette didn't mind, as long as she could improve her performance. All she'd done, really, was change her 8-balance weight disk with a 6-heavy and then change her blade base - she'd used the bearing-type base before - to a 'metal sting' in order to make up for the lost attack power, yet not compromise her speed or endurance.

Now she just needed to work on her techniques a bit more...

Uh... goddessanime? 'NPC' = 'Non-Player Character'. Meaning anyone can play them when the need arises - within reason, of course, and unbiased.

Akurei frowned when he heard her stuttering apologies. “Calm yourself. I am helping because my Mistress doesn’t wish to harm anyone who suffers from her attack. She only does it when she is out of control, so she won’t know that she unleashed it to you.”
Standing up and dusting his cloak, he continued “Don’t act like you can endure such a state. Even the young Hiwatari faltered because of this attack. My mistress was right. You are not different to his reaction.”

Akurei jumped to the other side and picked up Diana, bridal-style making her head lean to his torso. He started to walk towards the exit and stopped to look at Houka “Pick yourself up Girl. We are returning to the residence. My mistress needs her rest, and so do you.”

Without another word, Akurei started walking towards the exit, still carrying Diana carefully in his cloaked arms.

"Coming, coming..." Houka muttered darkly. She hated it when people - human-form bitbeasts or otherwise - treated her like... well, like that guy just had. True, he helped her get a hold of herself, but that tone he used when talking.

Bugger it... she thought, tucking Medaea safely in her pouch again and hurrying after the dark-clad man.

-----------------------------

Miki blushed again and muttered a soft “gomene”. She then raised her head when her older twin asked to eat outside and she quickly stuttered “N-no, it’s fine. I don’t want to s-spend your money. I can just eat here. I don’t mind Oniichan.”

Miki clutched her compress slightly harder on her bruise, looking ashamed on the ground.

Kai rolled his eyes goodnaturedly and made to ruffle Miki's hair, but thought better of it. "It's technically not 'my' money; its the old goat's. So there's no problem, especially since you have to go out later, anyway."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 9:20 am

Miki looked further down and replied softly “Ok, Oniichan. If you say so” she said. Miki decided to get something to her bruise and took a small handkerchief and tied it tightly around it.

Once finished, she smiled and asked “Where do you want to go then Oniichan? Anywhere is fine with me. You know this place more”. Miki had been away for so long that she lost track of direction. No wonder she got lost last time and she was lucky finding Kai all alone.

The slate-haired teen was a bit lost on where to go, as he hadn't exactly thought about it yet. "French okay with you? There's this deli on the next block..."

----------------------------

Akurei waited for Houka to catch up and then pulled his cloak over them both and transported them all back to the apartment room. He carefully let Diana on the bed, still fast asleep.

He went to the couch and sat with his arm’s cross and his eyes closed. And then he spoke to Houka, who was still standing there “Don’t just stand there…you can roam to be familiar. Or just remain standing there and do nothing for all I care.”

Suffice it to say she was taken aback by this human bitbeast's actions. "...fine." she said at last, turning on her heel and walking over to the window. Glancing down, the sea green-eyed blader could tell they were on the ninth or tenth floor. Pretty high up... she mused as she turned away; little in the view afforded her was interesting. And the same thing went for the apartment. It was pretty nondescript, and Houka became bored just letting her eyes roam the surroundings.

Guess I'll take a look out in the hall...

Geez...its not much better out here...

Houka shut the door behind her and stood in the dim hallway, looking first to her right, and then to her left. Just then, the door to the next apartment opened. Sea green eyes widened when-

"L-Lily?!" She whispered hoarsely.

Miki just nodded “its fine with me Oniichan”. She turned to open the door and stepped outside to wait for Kai. Until then, she saw a door opening and her eyes widen in surprise.

The auburn-haired girl shook her head, her eyes shut tight again. It can't be her! Lily's dead! But why is there-

Then it hit her. Miki! Her hairstyle was similar to Lily's, the last time Houka saw her sister - which was upon her death, Of course - and given that the hallway was poorly lit, it was no wonder she'd mistaken the blue-haired girl for her sister! "...Miki? That you?"

------------------------------

Akurei remained in where he is and decided to keep an eye on the young girl. He reached inside his sleeve and pulled out an eye and it produced legs. It was not visible to the human eye. It let itself attached to the pouch hanging on her hip and glowed. Now, he can just focus and he will know If she as alright

----------------------------

Before he knew it, Miki had gone out; she was most likely waiting for hiim in the hall - where else would she be, anyway, in so short a time? The slate-haired teen reached up to the small cardboard box he kept on the shelf above the counter and fumbled around in it. When he replaced the box, he held a keychain in his free hand - the keys to the apartment, of course. He'd forgotten to bring them with him earlier - a rare event, his forgetting something - and was secretly thankful to Diana for transporting them inside the apartment as she had.

After one last survey of the room to make sure nothing valuable was left lying around, Kai, too, went out, locking and shutting the door behind him. And promptly stopped short.

Miki was standing a bit stiffly just outside the door; a few feet away, just outside the adjacent apartment and standing even more stiffly was Houka.

"Kurozuki, what are you doing here?"

"Your friend invited me to stay with her, and I'm just looking around..." Houka answered, recovering her wits. Miki didn't need to answer her earlier question anymore, as the appearance of her older twin was answer enough. "Y'got a problem with that, Hiwatari?"

Kai shook his head tiredly. "Whatever..." he muttered, resting a hand lightly on Miki's shoulder. "Let's go, Miki..."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:59 am

Miki, blinking from her short trance, faced her brother and nodded. “We are just going out to eat something and then I will register our team for the tournament. Do you want to join us, Houka-san?” Miki being the polite girl asked the rather shaken auburn-haired girl.

Her gaze flitting back to the younger of the twins, Houka opened her mouth to reply, but nothing came out. She shook her head to reply, but decided to try for a verbal response again. It worked.

"No thanks. 'm not hungry." She stretched her arms up above her head, at the same time stepping to the side to allow the siblings to pass. "Besides, I don't feel like going out right now..."

Of course, she didn't want to spend dinner with a girl who resembled her dead sister, but no one needed to know that. If she or Kai somehow found out...well, whatever. The auburn-haired girl attempted to smile, just to put Miki's thoughts at ease, if needed, but didn't quite make it, so she gave up.

The slight change in Houka's attitude - at least, towards Miki - baffled Kai, if only for a few moments. He shrugged it off - it was possible the girl just had mood swings or something similar to them - and turned his attention back to his twin, leading her gently forward with one hand on her shoulder.

Meanwhile, unknown to everyone…a certain dark-haired was already fidgeting from her slumber. And once again, reminiscing the past

FLASHBACK
Sounds of whirrs and clashes were the only thing you could hear in the Abbey Training Halls. Trainees continue to battle each other, Abbey guards watching behind them, giving instructions and repeating their only motto.

“Defeat is the ultimate humiliation”

Several have already been thrown out. Many tried to do their best not to be escorted to the punishment chambers. A lot succeeded. A lot also failed. But one specific training room was just above the large hall. Concealed in a large glass window, from the viewing deck…stood a man wearing a dark black mask and next to his side was a girl with a black mask but with red markings around the eyes.

Both were looking down at the young trainees, examining them. Then the man turned to his young female companion and smirked “Determined aren’t they? So, what do you think of their training regimens, Diana? Do you think they have potential to be in your standards?”

Diana just stared in boredom and didn’t answer. Instead, she focused her gaze upon a separate stadium from the others. 2 guards and a small group of scientists crowded a certain isolated stadium. The subject was a young girl, around her age, with dark brown hair. She couldn’t see the color of her eyes, too far for her to see.

The man followed her gaze and his smirk widened “I see you already seen Leia. She is very talented for her age. One of the best if I may say so myself.” Diana absently nodded, her red eyes still concentrating on the girl beneath her. She was very intriguing, if that was the right term. Like in a way, they could connect somehow. It was rather very confusing.

The training stopped until the girl had to take around 5 minutes of resting. That’s when she decided to look up and saw her for the 1st time. Both just stared emptily at each other until the scientist told the girl they had to resume. Taking one last look, she returned to the stadium and resumed training.

Diana continued her gaze until a scientist barged into a room saying that the young blue-haired girl she was assigned to guard was ready for another bit beast transfer. Boris smiled (it was really creepy though) and placed a hand on her shoulder, which she brushed off by walking outside.

END FLASHBACK

Waking up in a jolt, Diana’s eyes widened and scanned her surroundings. She was back at the apartment? No way. Scrambling to her feet, she looked outside to see her faithful dark bit beast, sitting all alone on the couch. “Akurei…”she began but her bit beast beat her to it.

“Are you alright Mistress?” the bit beast asked silently. He perceived that Diana was finally awake and patiently waited for her outside.

“If you say so, Houka-san” and with that, Miki walked with Kai and held his hand which was placed on her shoulder. “Let’s go Oniichan.”

Kai led his twin towards the elevator - as they had done earlier that day - and pressed the 'down' button; it was all pretty routine now, and the slate-haired blader didn't need to look at what he was doing.

"So... Kurozuki's going to be your third member?" Kai said at last, just before stepping into the elevator car. "You're registering your team now, and she appears to be the only other blader both you and Murphy know, to some extent..."

----------------------------

Diana held her head and responded in a rather tired voice “Don’t tell me I did it again, Akurei?” she groaned in regret and guilt. She hoped she didn’t do anything serious. Since she already looked at Houka’s memories.

Akurei opened his eyes, making them seem like they are drooping. “I am afraid; you used the 2nd stage Mistress.”

Diana seethed and cursed “Great…now I owe another one an apology. I went overboard” she cursed more until she stopped to see a familiar auburn-haired girl “Kurozuki..” she muttered.

Having heard something that sounded like her name being called, Houka turned and saw Diana, looking as though she'd just gotten over a really bad hangover.

"...what is it, Murphy?" she asked, one hand on her hip. Since Akurei - that was the name of Diana's bitbeast, wasn't it? - had said something about Diana's abilities and whatnot earlier, she could only guess that the 'nightmare memory' she'd gone through was, in a way, Diana's fault. She didn't expect an apology, as it really was a match and all, but she couldn't help but feel just a bit pissed off.

-----------------------------

"...damn." Kei muttered, sinking back down on her bed, her newly-configured blade spinning lazily in the small dish a few feet away. I miscalculated...

Her earlier reckonings with regard to the speed and stability of her blade had been wrong; instead of improving, they seemed worse! And the blade base seemed to be the culprit. The brunette retrieved it and began to examine it, taking it apart and laying the pieces on the bed once more.

It was a good thing she hadn't put away the spare parts yet; she was going to have to make some more minor changes.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 5:53 am

Miki nodded and stepped inside, following her brother and replied “She is, Oniichan. Houka has a lot of potential and she is also, like you said, the only one we know. All of us were in contact in that place.”

Miki turned to Kai and smiled wistfully before facing the door of the elevator again. “Kei-san is going to be with you and Yuriy-kun right? I have battled only Kei-san. I have yet to wonder what it will be like to battle my own element and the opposite of my element.”

It was true to some point. But Kai was at a different level to Kei-san. She was also fire but she is a level lower or maybe slightly to her brother. Yuriy was another story. He controls ice as well but from her brother’s point of view, she was more refined in her abilities.

"...I see. And yes, Hiyomura, Ivanov and myself will be teammates."

Okay, so he was back to being 'surly' and whatever else he'd been described as. But he knew Miki would understand; he wasn't much of the talkative type, even when they were children.

It seemed like forever before the elevator stopped, but finally it did. Kai got out, stepping slightly to the side so his sister could step out, too; plus, he thought it rude if he went outside ahead. He was, after all, the 'gentleman' in the group [of two].

-----------------------------

Diana looked away and just replied “Nothing…you probably experienced my attack didn’t you? I told you not to try and anger me. I get out of control and sometimes kill my opponent’s from trauma and fear. Just like those other trainees that that man...send to battle me on my personal training regimen”.

"Pardonnez moi?" Houka looked slightly more miffed. "I don't think I did anything to 'anger' you, Murphy. You just kept laughing your little head off for no apparent reason, while I was battling you. That's all."

She nearly rolled her eyes, but kept herself in check. Diana had been kind enough to offer to 'share' the apartment, regardless of ownership - it wasn't hers, that much was apparent - and etiquette dictated that she, Houka, should try her best not to start a quarrel, even if what the brunette just said made no sense.

"...anyway, I don't expect you to apologize. That was one of your attacks, right? That solves the 'problem' right there; bladers shouldn't have to apologize for using their attacks..."

Miki smiled and stepped outside and waited for her brother. She noticed the slight tension going on with Kai’s voice. Almost like…he wanted to be quiet again. She decided not to push the matter and leave the conversation into a halt for the moment and followed her twin in silence.

The rest of the walk seemed to go fairly quickly, at least from Kai's point of view. It seemed scarcely five minutes when he found himself looking up at the signboard for Rous La Riviere - quite fitting, as the rear end of the restaurant led to the road that ran parallel to the river. He was about to open the door so Miki could go in and see the place for herself, but the doorman beat him to it - well, what else could he have expected? This wasn't exactly a third-rate restaurant.

"We're here, Miki,"

-----------------------------

Diana just snorted and then smirked “Well...Anyway it doesn’t matter because even if I didn’t the outcome will be the same”. Then her eyes turned to have a hint of worry and concern “But…if you don’t mind me asking…how bad was the nightmare? I don’t have control on how intense my attack could be. A lot have suffered from it…I’m glad you didn’t too, like Hiwatari did.”

Diana didn’t want to admit but she sometimes hates her power. Sure it gave her more strength and power but it didn’t have to go that far to attack the person’s inner core. It was far too much and the emotional pain is far more painful than that of the physical pains that the body could endure.

Houka shrugged. "Could have been worse," she replied nonchalantly - an attempt to ease the worry she could see in the brunette's eyes. "Of course, I'm not saying that I want to find just how much worse it could get."

She fiddled with her hands, cracking her knuckles then her finger joints to loosen them up - wow, were they stiff, or what? - then turned back to Diana. "Anyway, I was meaning to ask: why the hell did you do that earlier, putting that mask on and putting your hair up in some sort of ponytail? I thought Balkov had tracked me down or something, and..." She trailed off, forcing herself to calm down before she spilled everything.

Miki nodded in thank you to the doorman, who in turn nodded, and guided both of them inside. Miki saw the inside was just like those cafes in France. She softly inhaled, taking in the sweet smell of pastries and breads being baked, or freshly taken out of the oven. It made her even hungrier than before. She then turned to her older brother and asked “I never tasted French food before. I hope I will find something I will like. I don’t think I want pastries. Like you Oniichan, I don’t seem to have much of a sweet tooth."

"I'm sure you'll find something," Kai replied, quickly choosing a table and sliding Miki's chair out for her so she wouldn't have trouble seating herself. Then he sat down opposite her. It was one of those 'booth tables' with cushioned seats that afforded the occupants some semblance of privacy from the other diners. As soon as he did, the maitre'd came over and handed them a small sheaf of stiff papers - the menu.

The crimson-eyed teen scanned the menu, then looked up at Miki. "Do you want me to translate the menu for you?" Yes, Kai was semi-fluent in French. He didn't like showing this though, unless circumstances called for it. Such as now.

Miki blinked and then sheepishly said "Uhm, is it ok if you decide Oniichan?"

"All right," he replied, acquiescing. He scanned the menu again, flipped pages a few times, and then turned to the waiter who was standing, ready to jot down their orders. "Nous prendrons le ragoût végétal à commencer, puis coq au vin, sil vous plait."

A brief pause as the suit-clad waiter scribbled on his pad, then he looked back again at the two. "Oui, monsieur, mademoiselle. Vous aiment quelque chose boire?"

A quick glance at his twin, and then Kai flipped the menu shut. "L'eau juste. Mais je signalerai si nous changeons d'avis." As the waiter collected the menus and walked off, the slate-haired blader turned back to Miki.

"I ordered vegetable soup, then chicken in red wine. Unless you want something else, and something to drink..."

-------------------------------

Diana looked at Houka and sat on the arm rest of the couch, with her arms crossed as well “I just thought you will remember me, that’s all. Miki already knew you and I know you as well. And we are one member short and to Miki, you are the perfect candidate to be in the team. We needed 3 members to enter the tournament."

“And also, I knew for the fact that if you don’t know me then you won’t trust me. Like what they all say. “One must gain trust in order to be trusted””. Diana opened one red eye and smirked at her “Don’t you think so…Houka?”

The auburn-haired teen smirked back. "Heh. True enough... just don't put that damn mask on; it looks too much like his, despite the slight differences in design..."

Houka sat on the small ottoman across from the couch, her gaze still on her brunette hostess. "So...you've disaffiliated yourselves with that Balkov, huh? No surprise there, really..." With that guy's attitude, he was bound to get a few traitors in every batch of recruits.
