Ruuvan

Even though this kid was going the right way about destroying something that cost a lot of money, Ruuvan could only smile as he saw the futile attempts and heard the kid speak; he had shouted before, so the childlike innocence hadn't shown as well as it did now.
"A pretty lady, eh?" He laughed slightly and shook his head, moving to sit cross-legged in front of the boy as he watched with a bemused expression on his face.

"Leave? Why would she le--" Ruu's questions was answered prematurely as the kid raised his hands and was about to start some nastiness, the NightVisor flashing to indicate he was about to hit downwards with something, but there was nothing in his hands, nothing until... shadow magic? What could he be making wi... a shadow sword?! The necklace Ruu wore around his neck started to glow instinctively, making the gold chain, the only part of his necklace visible, glow slightly and make it obvious he was wearing something around his neck.

Just as quickly as the boy's sword formed and started coming down, Ruu held out his palm and created a sheet of light just above the stone. To the boy, it would feel as if the blade had impacted the ground, but light was sent shooting up the length of the blade once it made contact. His sword became covered in this bright, shiny light for a few moments before the weapon disappeared and was replaced with a small orb of light, about the same size as the ruby, floating just in front of the child's face.
"Maybe you should let her leave on her own, hm?" He was hoping the boy would be fixated on the new, brighter shiny in front of his face, thus allowing Ruu to slide the stone from the ground and into his hands. His face remained neutral as he held it in an open palm, giving the boy the chance to snatch it back as to keep the friendly image.

::The boy was infact fixated on the new and brighter shiny. Infact the only reason that the shadow of the sword was dispelled so easily was because the boy was now fixated on what had to be the mother of all shiny. And it wasnt the ball of light.

This was the desert, if you wanted to see bright light, hold up something reflective and BAM, powerful desert sun. The boy had yet to realize that his eyes percieved things on both the material...and the spiritual planes. And things able to resonate on both levels are the most beautiful. They're thousands of times more beautiful than things that can only glow on one.

For example, the Necklace on Ruuvans neck, in this instant as it glowed was simply the most beautiful thing he had seen in all his life. It was like staring into an holy combination of light, dark, fire, water, wind, and earth, it swirled together life and death and with only the absolute most purity. It was too beautiful to take....

Not!

It was all of 2 seconds before the boy dove forward to try and tackle Ruuvan. He needed that necklace! He needed it bad. And while his insane mutters werent very clearn, the worlds "big shiney", "special shiney" were audible::

Ruuvan wasn't expecting the boy to go for his necklace, what with the orb of light being so much brighter and in plain view, so he was quite surprised as his eyepatch suddenly lit up to warn him of the incoming tackle, though it neglected to mention the fact the child was going for his prized possession.
"Crap!" In the space of those two seconds leading up to the attack he had managed to swear and use the ball of light, which seemed to just be floating innocently, to temporarily blind the boy as he made his move. In the same instance, Ruu dropped the stone into his lap and used both his hands to hold the boy back, looking into both his eyes, "It is special, to me at least, so please don't try and take it. How about you hold onto the stone for me until I finish talking to that lady?" He was placing great trust in the boy, what with giving him the only thing he really needed from Strata, so maybe that would form some sort of tie between the two; the kid seemed to know something about the stones, so he had a use.

::Indeed, the shock of a sudden flash bomb going off was rather effective. Suddenly all of the world was one big shiny. And frankly, that rather sucked, the boy was gently grabbed by Ruuvan thusly arresting his forward motion and causing him to flop onto the ground like a dead fish. That sucked as well.

As the very painful and stingy blur of sudden flash began to fade from his teary eyes Ruuvans words seeped into the boys ears. There was something about his voice...something that clicked in his mind. Perhaps there was a deep underlying trust. Or maybe a familiarity. Maybe he knew Ruuvan, but likely not. It didnt matter, as the world actually came back into clear view, there was the red shiny sitting before him.

He took it, sat himself down indian style, and held it up to the sun, staring at it. It was wierd, the more he looked at it the more a the light seemed to shine through it and in a single direction. It was odd, like the light was pointing someplace, but that couldnt be. The boy had no knowledge of the jewels powers, and really no ability to access them. It seemed he was learning more about himself than anything else. For now though, like a tiny soldier he held onto the jewel and he would gaurd it with his tiny life.::

Ruuvan smiled as the boy took the ruby and adopted a sitting position in the light, still fixated on the bright lights he could make whilst holding it up to the sun. He shook his head slightly and walked back to the table, sitting across from the woman as before with a warm smile on his face.
"Where were we?" He furrowed his brow and thought for a moment, remembering her last question of why he wanted to know, "I'm working for Evan White and he's a collector of rare stones, hence why I bought that one. There is something else, but I'd really like to know exactly where you got the stone and not bother you with small details, if you get my meaning." The information of why he needed the location was classified, in his mind anyway, so he was hoping she'd just tell him and he could get the soul in the stone.

While all this was happenning, the young woman was looking at them with a mixture of curiousity and amusement, as if this kind of thing did not surprise her. When the flash bomb went off, she had to cover her eyes for a moment, but other than that, she didn't seem as if she thought nothing was wrong.

There were stranger things in this world, after all.

In any event, she placed her right index finger on her chin, as if in thought. She nodded for a bit, then smiled. "So long as you take me with you, we'll be fine. I've always wanted to go further into those caverns- see what they're like. It's an exciting prospect! Please?"

She didn't seem the type that would run while she was in the middle of a fight, and probably came prepared for anything. Of course, that was yet to be seen, but she would probably be useful for clearing out traps in the area.

This trip was starting to look like a family outing; Ruuvan had already thought of taking the kid, purely for the fact he seemed to know more than he let on, and the woman was now asking to come along too. If all was sorted in his mind, this meant he could get into the cavern with little difficulty, get her to look after the kid whilst he did the final part and then bring them all back safely, but that was the basic idea and they had a habit of going wrong.
"I have no objections, but I do have rules." Ruu leant in slightly, looking at the woman with his one good eye, "I don't want any arguments if I tell you to wait. I say this because I know there is something I've got to do on my own at the end, so I'll need you to look after the kid." Of course he hadn't said he was taking the boy, but it seemed the logical thing to do as he now had cover for him.

::He had ears! Infact most of the time he had to mentally focus on 20 things at a time in order to fully concentrate on one thing. So as intent as he was at following that line of glowy light that was admitted from the ruby, he still had ears!::

Ruuvan
"--need you to look after the kid."

No!

::He stood up holding the gem in hand and looking Ruuvan in the eye. One could tell he was upset, as his hands were firmly placed on his hips and an obvious frown was on his face as he spoke.::

No! No! No! I wanna see dis pwace!

::He points at the stone where clearly, in his own mind there was a very special looking room with a woman in it. The woman owned this stone, and it was very very important to her. He could all of this by the color of the aura of the stone, and the swirly shape of the image and the glowing line which he could clearly see tracing its way from here to where the room in the stone was.

Of course to everyone else, there was a crazy boy standing up all pouty and pointing to a plain old ruby, with a rune engraved in it. If only the child realized how crazy he looked.

If only he could see realize that as he held the stone up to the sun and stood in the shadow of the ruby he would be able to clearify his soul sight and see something called a Soul Trail. That being an small glowing line leading him too where the emotional source was centered at. Namely at the heart of the room in which the stone belongs. And without thought or warning, he started walking. Hell, if Ruuvan wasnt going to take him, and leave him alone, while he went off with some strange lady, he was gong to walk on his own!

And with that he was off. He just walked off, following seemingly nothing.::

The woman shook her head and looked towards the child. "Wait- he didn't say you couldn't go! He just said I had to take care of you while we were looking for the source! It's all right!"

She got up, briefly apologized to Ruuvan, and walked after the boy. Heck, she needed to buy a few things anyway for the trip- she might as well get up and go get them.

"Look for the white Hummer near the market!" Ruuvan shouted after the woman as she left, smiling slightly at the prospect of having some good company on a trip for once. Too long had he travelled alone, so having some company would be a delightful change; not to mention the fact the kid reminded him of Maximos, so it'd be like having his old friend at his side again.

Once a few minutes had passed and he had finished his drink, Ruu placed some money on the table and left the bar, looking around outside to see if he could spot the pair. They were obviously shopping for equipment and would hopefully be at the H2 in an hour or so. There was nothing left to do now but get to the Hummer and wait by it, leaning against the cool-ish white metal as he did.

::Sadly, the child had followed the Soul Trail and it led him in an unfortunate circle. He wanted to find the pretty ladies soul...and he found it. Only it wasnt...well...it was in the place he wanted to be, and so he followed a different trail...Ruuvans!

This took him in a little, and with a quick stop by the nearest candy hut, he was at the H2. The little boy knew what a car was, but if you asked him to look for a 1986 Mustang Convertible...he'd be lost. So too if you ask him to look for an H2 Hummer....he was lost.

But by the time Ruuvan reached the Hummer he would see the little boy with his pale cheeks blowing out some pretty hefty snores as a loli-pop about the size of his hand lay stuck to his jacket...and he slept. His hair was a mess yet despite all the sand outside he had managed to not have even a single grand stuck to his clothes, or boots. Some say its best to let sleeping dogs lie, it was safe to say that by falling asleep in the front passenger seat, the boy had infact declared "Shotgun" for this ride.

He would toss and turn a bit as Ruuvan entered, but really didnt wake. He did mutter a few slurred words about "big brudder" and "mr. ugly elf", whatever that meant.::

And she had followed the boy in a circle, puzzled slightly as to why he was wandering around the city with the Rune Stone as a compass. Unless... unless he knew how to find the source! Or rather, he thought he knew, but didn't entirely know.

So she followed him, and stopped briefly along the way to buy things she would need. She even settled on a nice, 25" long, five inch wide steel machete with quite a sharp edge. It would do nicely for a defensive measure, for the moment.

In any event, she arrived at the car, just behind the boy, and smiled at Ruuvan, a backpack full of about 45 pounds worth of gear strapped across her shoulders and the machete sheathed at her right hip.

"Okay, I'm set. This kid is tough to follow..."

Ruuvan was surprised the find the kid already in the passenger seat once he reached the car and he was even further surprised once the woman appeared carrying a large bag, though equipment was a necessity when going on a trip like this.
"Let's hope he's a good runner too, eh?" The woman would have no idea why someone would need to run, but she'd find out soon enough once they reached the place and ventured into the centre, "Just give me directions to the site, you're in charge for now, but that all gets reversed once we get there, ok?" Without waiting for a reply, what with his word being law and all, Ruuvan started up the Hummer's engine, revved it a few times and pulled away from the market.

((Hugin, post us getting there and whatnot, I'll post again and then we'll be back to normal order.))

She nodded and hopped in the back seat of the ride, smiling as she relaxed against the leather seats. She buckled herself in, tossed the backpack next to her, and relaxed for a bit. They probably wouldn't be getting there for a while, so it was best to just sleep for a bit.
