Seeing past her writings, Tilly blinked and pursed her lips in a very nervous manner. Slowly, she tucked her quill behind her ear and waved away the shorthand that cluttered the air in front of her. It seemed like a silly manner, but it was a rule to never let a soul besides your companion see the writing, even if it was unreadable.

"Oh dear me.."

She whispered under her breath as the angry woman's friends made their way over. Regardless of sides, Tilly put on her best smile and stood in her place quietly.

A grapple into disarm attempt. Lovely.

As Ryugi brought his right leg up into a kick, Alexa focused the blade's mana down through her legs, freezing them solidly in place, allowing her to keep her ground with greater ease... along with encasing Ryugi's grounded foot in a block of unnatural ice. With any luck, the sudden immobilization of his other leg would throw him off balance, dampening the blow from the kick. In any case, Ryugi would find that her grip on the Cosantóir was unnaturally strong.

Her hands were literally frozen to her prized possession; she wasn't about to simply let go.

"Coldsnap."

A wave of intense sub-zero temperature rushed from her weapon and directly into Ryugi, as he was still holding holding her weapon. In addition to dealing damage via frostbite and numbing over time, the shock of the 'burn' could potentially cause him to drop the weapon.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Ryuma and pals merely returned Tilly's weak smile; they were engrossed in the battle at hand. While they were cheering for their comrade, they were hoping Ryugi would knock her down a wrung or two.

Ryugi's eye caught the pulse of icy energy as the blade sent it through his body and into the legs. Of course, he could feel it too, but he'd gotten a nice close look at the source of her power, and he knew exactly what he was going to do next... It was time to turn up the heat.

Ryugi had been gathering energy up by not expending it from his buffer, and utilizing Ragnarok's energy rather than his own, which meant that he had a rather large amount of fire energy stored within his body as the Coldsnap washed over him. His kick still connected, though not nearly as powerful as he'd originally intended. However, it would still likely do enough damage to knock the wind out of his opponent.

But that was simply a minor detail compared to what happened next. Ryugi was in close quarters with an opponent who had just frozen herself to the ground. She wasn't going anywhere, which meant Ryugi was free to unleash his attack without much fear of her moving out of the way.

With a mighty burst, Ryugi's body erupted into a firestorm as the ice that held him in place was shattered by the intense outward force of the energy. However, as soon as the blast occurred, Ryugi shot forward, his left hand pinning Alexa's blade to her chest as the collision would tear Alexa from her icy foothold and likely send the both of them careening down the field, where Ryugi would aim to plant Alexa firmly into the ground.

Then, he'd press his left hand, and Ragnarok's handle in his right, into her midsection and release her sword, performing a single-handed handspring off of her using his right fist as his left shot down to his left side, gripping the handle of Sol Blade as he let loose a powerful negation with the remaining energy he'd stored up, effectively neutralizing her sword's ability to pull in energy.

After his handspring and negation, Ryugi would twist midair and land about five feet away from her, Ragnarok back on his shoulder as he waited to see what Alexa's reaction would be, ever observant, ever learning. Luckily for her, the heat from Ryugi's flames would not cause serious injury, as it was more used for propulsion and the negation, though it was likely to cause heavy discomfort, especially for one who used ice energy...

Tilly's eyes darted from the fight to the new comers a few times before she gave into the temptation to write. Scribbling in the air feverishly, the little muse attempted to write smaller so the strangers couldn't see, and hopefully to them, it'd just look like a mess of light.

Pausing to look up, Tilly looked down and circled a few of the sentences she wrote, then sidestepped to continue her writing. God forbid if the visitors decided to pester her now.

The firestorm caught Alexa by complete surprise, the extreme shift in temperature causing more than just an uncomfortable shift. Being her natural 'opposite', Alexa hated fire magic more than anything else. That goes without mentioning the heat issue, seeing as Sol Blade effectively turned off her air conditioning.

Speaking of which:

Anti-Magic was something she's never experienced before. Needless to say, she wasn't in any hurry to try it again. She didn't know the mechanism behind it, but she'd have to wait for the area to saturate with mana or until Ryugi started drawing energy and using abilities again to leech of the after-effects. Whichever came first.

"Uggh!"

While the firestorm softened the holy-ice up a considerably, forcing her legs through her braces was painful endeavor. Wincing, the Paladin was slammed to the ground with considerable force as she was pinned by her own blade.

Winded with a wounded midsection and sore feet, Alexa quickly assessed the situation as she recovered from Ryugi's assault. Quickly rising to her feet, she brought her sword behind her and charged in for another overhead strike.

Or so it seemed.

In reality, Alexa bailed out on the strike, instead moving in to body-check Ryugi in an attempt to knock him over. Despite the strength difference, she had momentum on her side, which should be more than enough leverage to take him down. Unless he made a swing at her with Ragnarok or something, in which case she'd probably take evasive actions appropriately.

*~*~*~*~*~*

Now that they were starting to loosen up a bit, Ryuma and Ra'Fiig were beginning to enjoy the spectacle fully.

"Not bad. The dragon's got some pretty good moves."

"Yeah they're effective, but he doesn't have any style."

"Since when did you care about style? All you do is throw bombs and nets at people."

"Since I'm not the one with magic. And what's wrong with the way I fight?"

Lynn, having significantly less interest in the fight than the menz, tried to steal a glance over Tilly's shoulder when she wasn't looking.

Pausing for a moment to tuck a few stray hairs behind her ear, Tilly huffed out and scribbled some more. Oh yes, Tilly had noticed the girl peeking over her shoulder. Muses were taught to be aware of their work's presence, or maybe it was just paranoia. With a gentle smile, Tilly spelled out with her quill in a string of light, as plain as day.

'I know you're peeking.'

It was time to showcase something completely different. Ryugi watched as Alexa picked herself up and charged towards him, but what he did next would likely dumbfound her completely... As she charged, Ryugi would swing his left hand across in front of him, a thin wall of energy springing up between the both of them before a pulse of energy sent Ryugi jumping up and backwards, his right hand tossing Ragnarok high into the air, the weapon glittering in the sun as it spun.

As Ryugi soared through the air, a flash of light pulsed as his right hand was held out in front, a large white bow of brilliant holy energy forming up in front of it as his left moved, as if to pull the glittering string as white energy formed up around the hand before the energy unleashed in a hail of lighting fast projectiles that would rain down all around Alexa's form, exploding with blinding light... It was possible she would dodge one, but it was unlikely she'd be able to dodge the six blinding arrows that flew towards her from multiple angles...

ADAMANT'S ARROW STORM!!

As the attack finished, Ryugi would land with his right hand up, the bow of light dissipating, its energy being used to replenish some of the stamina lost during its creation...
PostPosted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 12:04 am

All was going well until SURPRISE WALL ATTACK. Bracing herself for the sudden intrusion, she was able to dampened the force at with she barreled into the energy wall. Without wasting any time, she collected herself and deliberately raised her left leg...

"Divine Tundra."

...before bringing it down with a hard stomp. Instead of the gigantic sheets of light-ice Alexa was accustomed to, five rather sharp shards of ice erupted out of the ground with admirable speed. With the residue of Ryugi's attacks the only source of mana available, the effects of her 'attack' were far less spectacular than she would have hoped. Still, it more or less got the job done, the shards exploding in an impressive display as they were struck by the dragon's energy.

Of course, that left one 'arrow' unaccounted for. Bracing her claymore above her with both hands, she effectively deflected the final arrow. A brilliant flash ensued, the paladin girl squinting her eyes to shield herself from the intense light. Her vision was obviously blurred, but it wasn't enough to stop her from fighting effectively. Nonetheless, Alexa was finally beginning to regain her knightly composure, even if she was still sweating profusely due to the heat. Being at a disadvantage range wise, she would continue her charge against the Dragon after the initial bombardment.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Hmph. Don't you hate fighting people who just throw energy around like that?"

"Hmm? Yeah, sure."

Ryuma, on the other hand, caught Ryugi casting magic without his sword in hand. He was determined to pick the stranger's brain later; it was fine time that he re-evaluated his understanding of dragons. For the moment, he'd simply study Ryugi's movements closely.

"That's a nice trick."

It was uncertain whether Lynn simply didn't recognize the written language or if she was truly illiterate, but she had no idea what Tilly was trying to convey in either case. She was far more impressed with her ability to string letters of light together in midair than what it actually said.

And then, in a flash, Ryugi dropped his hand, his voice ringing out as the paladin shielded her eyes from the blinding attack.

Over here!!

One might believe that he was calling out to his opponent, challenging her pride or weakness and giving her his position after blinding her, but in truth, it was a distraction to what was really happening. Up above, Ragnarok suddenly stopped spinning, its tip centering on the paladin like a compass needle on true north, before the sword shot towards the ground, spinning around like a sort of drill as white energy flared up around it just before impact...

In that same instant, Ryugi would draw Sol Blade from its sheath and begin to charge directly towards the young woman and his weapon...

Over here!!

This drew Alexa's attention for a brief moment. That is, until the large, bright falling object fell into her peripheral vision. Without thinking twice, she came to an immediate stop, kicking back clumsily in an attempt to dodge the drill-like Ragnarok. It was a narrow miss, the impact nearly knocking Alexa further off balance.

The distraction nearly worked, something that visibly irritated the young woman. Still, she fought to keep her composure, least she blindly run into more attacks again. She had a tendency to forget the basics.

Geez, how many relics is this guy carrying?

Ryugi was down one sword, but she still had another in hand. If she could only disarm him, she'd have him cut off from his power source and his means to attack. Unless he assumed dragon form, in which case it would no longer be considered a simple spar.

Little did she know that Ryugi's power didn't stem from magical equipment, nor did she know the true nature of the sword wedged in the ground beside her...

"You're a fool to discard your blade so easily."

However, she was already proven wrong at least three times against her opponent. She knew it was foolhardy to believe that "common knowledge" applied to the dragon warrior. So far, it seemed that anything could happen. As the warrior was closing in on her, she took up a broad stance in preparation of his assault.

Still, the idea of willingly discarding your primary melee weapon was incomprehensible for her.

Ragnarok slammed into the ground, still burning with white hot energy as Ryugi called out to his foe.

You underestimate my blade!! Ragnarok!!

As Ryugi called out, the weapon sitting next to Alexa erupted with a burst of energy, sending a torrent of light high into the air with terrible force, the ground cracking from the power released. Even as the strike finished, Ryugi continued to move in, leaping into the air to follow Alexa into the air, Sol Blade in his right hand...

"!?!"

There was a gasp as she was painfully and unexpectedly flung skywards by Ragnarok. Correcting her position so she'd land soundly, she was graced with the sight of Ryugi flying towards her.

That final surprise caused her loss of demeanor yet again.

"Verily, I've had enough of your sorcery!"

With the effects of negation wearing off and Ryugi releasing ample energy into the area, Alexa's weapon was drawing in an admirable amount of energy. Brimming with arcane power, the girl's claymore was augmented with elemental power, starting to glow in the familiar light-blue attributed to her abilities. Subconsciously, she pushed out a considerable amount of holy energy behind her, propelling herself towards her opponent.

It was the moment to give it all she had... before Ryugi had time to use the Sol Blade's Negation effect again!

"Judgment Avalanche!"

With that Alexa brought the Cosantóir down on Ryugi's form hard. A trail of blue energy effectively increased the range of the strike to by 5 feet. On impact, the energy would cause Ice Crystals to rapidly form across it's target. In addition to dealing the obvious cold-damage, these crystals would explode in a brilliant flash of light about a second or so after they formed, easily having enough force to blow holes in armor or tear out chunks out of a man's flesh. Assuming Ryugi blocked with his weapon, the crystals would form alongside the blade and hand(s), effectively achieving the same result either way.

Truth be told, there was little Ryugi could do. Ice was a frustrating element. It was more solid than energy, and a massive trail of it bearing down on an airborne Ryugi would still do a considerable level of damage. Negation wouldn't do much at this range without expending more energy than Ryugi would really have time for. Thus, Alexa scored her first real hit of the fight...

Ryugi barely had enough time to block against the massive force of the strike to prevent it from hitting his body. Sol Blade clashed against the strike, the transfer of force sending Ryugi plummeting to the ground where he landed on his feet, stunned by the shock before a creeping flow of ice formed up over his body. Oddly enough, Ryugi's clothing was thick and tough, as well as insulated against the cold, his draconic nature resisting temperatures at any extreme anyway. The cold did little damage in and of itself.

For a moment, Ryugi was completely frozen solid. A draconic Popsicle. And then...

Boom.

The whole mess exploded around him, casting his form across the battle area and rolling across the ground where he lay motionless, only his hair blowing gently in the wind crossing the plains...

"Hmph. You're fairly strong-- for a dragon, that is."

Alexa landed gracefully, prepared to follow through against the wounded dragon. However, after seeing the result of her last blow, she had come to the only reasonable conclusion.

"Though I'm loathe to admit, it's apparent who the gods favor this day. I was wrong to confront a brother in arms. You have my apology."

Naturally, she assumed he was a fellow 'paladin' at this point, seeing the (visually) similar abilities and weapon style. Odd, she wasn't aware that the Gods accepted dragons as paladins, but then again, she wasn't aware that dragons could cast magic either. These facts were getting easier and easier to accept, just as her inevitable defeat was. She simply didn't possess the strength or ability to take down her opponent.

However, she refused to yield quite so easily; the Cosantóir was still clutched tightly in hand, ready to lash out at a moments notice. She couldn't allow herself to pass up an opportunity like this, now that she knew the man's strength.

"Still, might I continue to test my mettle against the weight of your steel?"

Though she dreaded doing so, it was only honorable to admit her fault in the matter. Just as it was only 'honorable' to beat within an inch of death any compatriot of hers that mentioned this event ever again.

As she stood some distance away lightly complimenting Ryugi's skill, something would catch her ears. It wasn't a groan, or a cry of pain. No, it was laughter. Ryugi was laughing as he picked himself off the ground and brushed a hand through his hair, sheathing Sol Blade with the other.

Hahahahahaha! Haaa... You sure do like to underestimate your opponents...

Ryugi grinned and held out his right hand, Ragnarok suddenly pulling itself from the ground and spinning through the air to land in his grasp where he lifted it to his shoulder. Other than some debris in his hair, Ryugi looked relatively unharmed.

...and their weapons for that matter.

He cast his glance at her and raised an eyebrow. It was a bit cocky, but at this point, Ryugi felt that the young woman was in way over her head.

Trust me when I say that if I were fighting at the fullest of my ability, it would be highly unlikely that you would defeat me. You're quite skilled, but if you truly wish to become better at combat, you will need to open your mind to all the different possibilities of energy and ability. Right now, I don't believe there is anything more to gain for you by fighting me.

He chuckled.

However, I'm sure there is much you could gain from discussing yourself and your abilities with me. The choice is yours.

As Ryugi finished, he'd stand there, hand still on Ragnarok, the blade resting patiently on its partner's shoulder. And as the wind moved across the plains, one would swear he really did look like a paladin of light.
