Braeden finished his cigarette, flicking it at Tsurai's chest, exhaling nonchalantly. "Kid, what do you want from me, huh? You want to die? Because it can be arranged. Real easy. Without your guard dog around, I could tear your limbs off. Even if you had your arm." He laughed a little, shaking his head. "******** crazy.. You ARE Brian's kid."

Everything Tsurai was thinking of doing contradicted every other option Tsurai was thinking of doing. He wanted to bite Braeden's head off, but he wanted to listen to what he said. He wanted to say the Denzien was wrong, but he wanted to say nothing at all.
The butt hit him and bounced off, landing on the ground, and Tsurai ended up listening to his submissive half. Braeden was right. And the ever-present fact that Tsurai was weak was settling in. He might've had a chance with two arms, but now he definately didn't.
"I don't know what I want, anymore," he replied quietly, slouching.

Braeden laughed. "How old are you? Sixteen?" He couldn't recall the years. Before the fall he had abused marijuana so profusely that his long term memory was beginning to blend together and suffer for it. "That's normal for kids your age. You sure he's gonna be okay down there by himself?"

"Eighteen. I think." He was pretty sure. Last time he checked, he was. Maybe he was older now. A lot of time had passed in the vaults. He wondered if a year had gone by.
"And since when do you care?" he didn't feel comfortable enough to sit down, like he wanted to, so he just put his hand over his stomach.
"What happened to kicking a b***h while it's down?" Of course, by b***h, he meant a female dog, but... It hadn't come out like he wanted it to.
"Change your mind all the sudden? Or I guess it's just from the smoke."

He laughed again. "I take what you give me, kid. I figured if I was mean to you, you'd run to mama and have him solve your problems. Whaddya know, it worked." He refolded his legs uncomfortably, bones creaking. "And cigarettes don't do s**t as far as that goes."

"That is NOT..." True? He thought it wasn't. He shook his head, and decided to not address it. "I wouldn't know. I never smoked. Nicotine, anyway."

He shrugged. "It's a poor replacement for pot, but whatcha gonna do? I'd rather drink water than feed it to a marijuana plant." He yawned, shaking his head back and forth, watching people mill about. "You're lucky. We just did spring cleaning."

He hmphed. "I may be missing an arm but I'm not useless. That Rob you have is worse off than me." He growled.
"How do you deal with that, anyway? Knowing that at any second you could be eaten? How do you even eat... It? It's... Disgusting." He made a bad-taste look on his face, took a step back and shook his head, as if he had been forced to try some.
"Morals aside, I don't think.. It's... Disgusting." Parts of sentences were left out, so that came out in a completely different manner and with different meaning than Tsurai had wanted.

Braeden shook his head back and forth. "Look, kid. I don't know if it's a Denzien thing, or not. But I got a belief that the strong should live and the weak should die. I dunno if your buddy's real talkative about it.. but that big wave tattoo down his shoulder, the great migration? They ate their fallen comrades there, too. They had to. So do we, huh? Why let the elderly or the sick suck up resources, when they have nothing to contribute? They give more dead than alive. And I figure I'll know before I become too weak to be of use, and make my way out of here, out where I can die alone." He shrugged, as though cannibalism was logically infallible. "There aren't any hospitals around here kid. Once you're gone, you're gone. That's how it was hundreds of years before the bomb, and that's what it's gonna be like for hundreds of years afterward. Die or deal with it."

"I know... Where you're coming from... And I guess I understand.. But I still don't get... How you could actually eat it. I mean. It tastes bad... Doesn't it..?" He shook his head again. Why was he making 'normal' conversation with this guy? Why wasn't he helping Isiah dig?
Isiah! s**t. He needed to... Do something... What did he need to do, again?

He laughed. "Tastes like pork. Y'know, the gamy kind you get real cheap. Depends on how old they were and how much muscle mass they have, really." He watched Tsurai's face, expecting him to either gag or choke back a gag.

That was it. The question he wanted to ask, before. Tsurai swallowed back the bad taste in his mouth. He was getting increasingly accepting of weird s**t, these days...
"What would you do if Isiah and I just... Quit working? Why are you keeping watch over us, anyway?"

"I think he's dangerous, and I think you're edible if you don't pull you're weight. That's why. That what you wanted to hear?" The same smile hung on his lips. It was hard to tell if he was joking.

He wasn't sure what he wanted to hear.
"If he's so dangerous, then why do you have some gangly starving kid keeping watch?"
Yeah. Like Isiah would heart a kid. Damn, answere shis own question.
"And what the hell am I supposed to do? I can't shovel!" He was getting angry, now, but it was at himself for being so useless. He couldn't help shouting.

Braeden recrossed his legs again, licking his lips slowly. "If I killed you, you think he'd do any work? Nah. It's better to have the threat hovering over his head. You bein' down there would be a good reminder. Kid, think for a second before you talk, huh?"
